When you walk in, there is a seating area for you to wait in case they are busy. Once you walk into the cafe area, you are greeted and sat. The waitress will promptly take your order and drink. Your food comes out very fast after ordering. Otherwise, the food itself was good. Someone I came with had ordered Eggs Benedict and it seemed to come with a giant portion of burnt cheese, which was completely inedible and disgusting. Ordered pick-up for a group of 8 business guest for a meeting that started at 11:45. Pick-up was set for 11:30 (ordered at 8:30am) and I honestly think they might not have started making it until I walked to at 11:25! Food didn't come out until 11:58am (28 mins late). And definitely too late for my business lunch. Unfortunately I left a tip when I walked in and paid for the food. Would have been a lot less (or not at all) if I would have know that the food would be a half hour late! Maybe the most frustrating part was I never got an apology or explanation. Even though they knew I was unhappy. Food was fine, but service was terrible. And I wasn't the only person standing around waiting for a pick-up order. Another woman's food (much smaller order) was 15 mins behind when I left. Plus she has a flavored coffee sitting at the bar with the foam melting and getting cold while she was waiting! There are plenty of drinks, coffee to mixed drinks, available. Coffee and a carafe came quickly and my partner's latte came right after. There is a good assortment of food (breakfast and lunch) to choose from. While there are staples, there are a number of non traditional items also available. I went with a ham and Gruyère crepe and my dining partner picked avocado toast. We both enjoyed our orders. While the restaurant has high, open ceilings, it is not as noisy as some restaurants with a similar design. All of the staff were helpful and friendly during our visit. What a great place! We walked over from our hotel. I enjoyed the delicious avocado toast with 2 eggs over easy. This was the perfect amount and delicious. I wasn't starving and was looking for a lighter fare. My husband got the Era omelet with fruit and a pancake. It was delicious, cooked perfectly with nice pieces of meat and vegetables. The fruit cup was the perfect addition. The pancake was so light and fluffy and the size of a cake! Our server, Megan, was attentive and friendly. It was another amazing experience at the Era cafe! All good food, My husband got the Meatlovers omelette with hashbrowns. Though it was good he preferred the skillet more, and especially the breakfast potatoes over the hashbrowns. Also tried their Nitro cold brew with Hazelnut and Caramel and it was good. I got the Era skillet which was amazing! With the Iced Brown sugar shaken espresso, it was okay but would try something different next time. My son got the Nashville chicken sandwich was very crispy and yummy. Fries were average. We also tried as a group the upgrade for pancake with our meal to get the Tiramisu pancake and Cinnamon Roll pancake, we each liked the other better but agreed it would be too much sweetness to order as a main dish. I was very pleasantly surprised by this place! I had low expectations as we chose this spot for simply being across the parking lot from our hotel, but it certainly blew those expectations out the water. Staff was very friendly and offered our larger group (7) the option of either waiting 15-20 minutes for a table or being seated at 2 different tables immediately. Service was quick despite the place being quite busy. They have a ton of options, with plenty of diversity, so it was extremely hard to choose, but I landed on the country fried steak with a pancake. Honestly one of the best pancakes I've ever had, if not, the best. Steak was also delicious with a huge helping of gravy on top. Portions are not of concern here! The taste was ok but it was a little mushy , I think it was over ripe avocado. The hash browns were cooked crispy but had just a tinge of chemical taste that I can't really identify. As for the coffee and I'm picky about this, it was excellent. They also provide a carafe so you can serve yourself. The waitress was friendly and attentive. She had patience with my kids as they wanted to order for themselves (3&7yrs old) and our food came out really quick. The coffee was very good. I wasn't so sure about trying Era again. The last time I went there was when they first opened and I received my dish with a big hair in it. They replaced the meal but I was still very put off by this. I have not eaten at Era ever since. I thought about giving them another chance so we celebrated our anniversary with brunch. We arrived around noon and it was still pretty busy. It seems like they are always busy and there is no real "slow" period. We had to wait for a table but was only a 5 minute wait for the two of us. The waitress was very polite and upbeat which made the experience more enjoyable. I ordered the Nashville chicken & waffle and the girlfriend ordered the country fried steak. We also order the mimosa flight; the pineapple was our favorite. The order came decently fast for how busy it was. The food was amazing. The potatoes with the country fried steak were incredible. It was a good sized steak with a good amount of gravy; the perfect ratio of meat to gravy. The chicken and waffles were very good. I liked that the hot sauce came on the side. The waffle itself had very good flavor. The breaded chicken was cut into strips and there was a lot of chicken provided. The combo of the sweet waffle with the spicy chicken really hit the spot. This restaurant is fantastic. I am really honestly not too big of a brunch fan and typically skip breakfast for lunch, but the best way to start a weekend is at Era in Wausau. I was immediately impressed with the cute, trendy and BUSY interior. We were able to put our name on a waitlist for a group of 6 and were notified on our phone about 20 minutes later that the restaurant was ready for us. Service all around was prompt, pleasant and frequent. I was thoroughly impressed. We got a spacious booth with more than enough room. I was very happy to see that they had a very prominent coffee section of their menu with explanations of the composition of different espresso drinks (amount of foam, water, espresso, etc). That's helpful for most people and makes it hard to order something you don't want. I chose a vanilla caffe latte, a go to for me. It was swerved in a very cute napkin laden plate, in a glass cup so you could see the carefully layered beverage. It was very good. Others ordered bloody Mary's and I appreciated the well thought out appearance, and the punchy spice that didn't disappoint. I would also get a Bloody Mary next time. For food, I feel like most restaurants are a bit of a gamble when it comes to hollandaise sauce and I am such a picky guy that I sometimes ask to try a sample before I order anything with it. This particular day, however, I abandoned that approach and ordered the eggs Benedict straight away. I was happy I did as this was the best I've likely ever had at a restaurant - the hollandaise was flavorful, more than just the Mayo mix that got get at other restaurants. The English muffins were fresh and topped with a great portion of ham and perfectly done eggs. I also don't think I've had more crispy but yet fluffy potatoes either. This is definitely the breakfast I'll reorder when I'm back, and I'm sure everything on the menu shares the same care in the approach with a delicious result. And their bloody was the best drink of the week by far! I tried Era Pancakes and Cafe while passing through Wausau this week- and I was not disappointed! This is their loaded bloody mary and it will run you $12. This freakin' delish drink came topped with a cheese cube, olive, pickle, whole sausage stick, celery, red onion and lemon wedge, and was accompanied with a celery salt rim. The mix itself was thicker and had tons of flavor, but still somehow allowed this incredible tomato profile to shine through too. So incredibly well-rounded, I'm in love! Not that hungry? You can get the plain bloody for $8. The service was incredible and the food was delicious (and came so fast!). They are a locally owned family restaurant and in fact, family is in their name as "Era" is the name of their daughter.
