Amazing vintage resort! Walkable to shops, restaurants and Lake Superior. Was clean and comfortable and has lots of vintage charm.

The cabin was good sized. Beds were comfortable. The resort is on a fairly busy street in town. Staff was friendly. Only suggestion is the cabin we were in was dog friendly. The carpet had obvious pee spots on it & could use a deep cleaning or better yet trade out the carpet for easy to clean flooring. It was somewhat unpleasant. read more

For all those adventurers out there needing to check Isle Royale National Park off their To-Do Lists....then I highly recommend first staying here at Minnetonka Resort before venturing off to one of the most remote parks in the United States! Yes this Minnetonka Resort was perfect for myself I couldn't have asked for much better in terms of rustic and accessible accommodations before my journey out to Isle Royale. Let me just back up a moment and give some details about what makes Minnetonka Resort so great and why you should choose to stay here as part of the Isle Royale experience.... To arrive at Isle Royale NP, you must take a boat. It's an island park set out right along the border with Canada. There are multiple destinations for which you can depart towards Isle Royale. This Minnetonka Resort is located in the tippy top section of Northern Michigan (the UP - Upper Peninsula of MI) in a very quiet and remote town called Copper Harbor. And it's here in Copper Harbor where you can take the Queen IV Ferry on beautiful Lake Superior and over to Isle Royale. From Copper Harbor the trip is only 3 hours long and during my research of Isle Royale, I discovered departing from this town of Copper Harbor to be most efficient. Because...not only is a 3 hour trip on Lake Superior waters relatively quick in comparison to others out there, but the Queen IV drops you off in the heart of the park at Rock Harbor. From other destinations you may get left off at more secluded points of Isle Royale, but the main event section/star attraction is certainly Rock Harbor. So, my point is...I'd suggest leaving from Copper Harbor and then obviously that's what brings into play this...Minnetonka Resort! I loved everything about my stay and experience here. Let me go through all the cool aspects... Btw...almost every tourist comes to Copper Harbor to eventually ride out to Isle Royale. If you're staying at Minnetonka Resort...it's most likely to have a place to rest at the night before your trip departure...and then when you return back to Copper Harbor from Isle Royale (especially those visitors who go to Isle Royale just as a day-trip and do not camp out overnight on the island)...a place to sleep for a second consecutive evening after the boat trip back. - I booked online to stay here for 2 consecutive evenings. I was traveling alone so all I needed was a one person room to rest my head. I selected Cottage #11 which was the cheapest rate they had for late June this past summer of 2021. It was $85 per night and with taxes my total came to $185.30, a great deal! And...their website was extremely easy to use! Terrific website! You'll understand when you logon to the internet and book your cottage. Also, it's not just a motel...this $85 per night was for my very own CABIN with a separate shower, sink, a/c unit, WiFi, television with all the good channels...and overall, just a very homely and charming feel!!! I had a great nights rest for both evenings and truly I felt like I was staying out within the heart of the great outdoors, my favorite type of setting! - Minnetonka Resort is located right in the main part of town of Copper Harbor. The boating dock and pier for departing on the Queen IV Ferry was within a 5 minute walk!! I asked Minnetonka Resort if I could leave my car for the day beside my cabin while I walked over to the ferry and they said..."no problem!" That was ultra convenient because driving and parking next to the pier cost a day fee so I was able to avoid that charge. - There is a small gift shop within where you check-in to the resort. Though I never purchased anything, I did like browsing around the store. - They offer laundry on site. - Minnetonka Resort sits right on the corner as you first enter Copper Harbor. It can't be missed. In fact...you can pretty much walk anywhere in town. Granted...Copper Harbor is a tiny little seaside area, but one night it was so pleasant outside that I even walked over to the Mariner North Restaurant for dinner (which I recommend as well). I cannot say enough good things from my stay here at Minnetonka Resort in Copper Harbor, Michigan. It only added to my wonderful collection of memories and time exploring out at Isle Royale making my entire expedition to this truly primitive national park a glorified experience that I'll never forget. Finally, a reminder why to stay at Minnetonka Resort.... - very affordable prices during peak summer travel season. - all rustic and cozy cottages. - accessible to walk to Queen IV Ferry dock and around Copper Harbor. - gift shop. - wonderful website, up front and honest about their prices. - located in the heart of Copper Harbor, MI...the most accessible town for beginning park departures and quests out to Isle Royale NP! read more

I'm so sad I didn't take a picture of our room. It was so cute. We stayed in room 2 in the Astor building. The room was super cute, spacious, and clean. It's across the street from the Tamarack Inn which had great BBQ brisket(go early, they ran out by 2 when we went). read more

nice place, nice people and probably the cleanest place i have ever stayed. everyone who worked there was super nice and friendly and very helpful Robert and Cindy keep the rooms super clean, no spot cleaning always full cleaning of everything. Sherry was so helpful in the office about restaurants and other things in the area. great store there too, bought some super cute sandals! no AC though probably won't need it as the nights get quite cool, even in August. the cabin we stayed in for 2 of the nights is one of their smaller ones, and it was small :) we moved to the motel for the last 2 nights. easy to find, park, all all thanks minnetonka, susan read more

Very strange place, I must say. First off, the decor in the rooms is like you just got transported into an episode of "Mad Men", except you're not a rich ad executive...Hotels are supposed to be non smoking, and these are (inside) except when there's a whole raft of bikers outside your room making North Carolina rich with a huge cloud of noxious blue smoke. The store is really something. Eclectic. Not much else you can use to describe it. Massive bottle collection for sale, including bottles of Coke and Pepsi from decades long past. The bed was extremely comfortable. The bathroom was nicely renovated, and the price was very good for a single night. read more

I could not find any available room in the time at that point, and I found this on Google. you have to make a room reservation on their website, and they provide both rooms and cabin. Very clean and nice room, staffs are very nice and recommend different places around the town. They also have a small store that you can buy stuffs or stay warm. read more

I found Minnetonka Resort online via Yelp and we ended up staying here a week ago for one night while in town. I agree with just about everything listed in the other reviews. Very clean, nice people working the office and gift shop, and the location is super easy to find. We were in one of the cottages behind the main building and 'cozy' is the word. It was perfect for my wife and I, and although the bathroom was pretty much original to when the unit was built, we were ok with that. Some other folks mentioned remodeled units, and it could be we got one of the old ones simply because we were just there one night. Again, not a big deal and we would certainly stay again if we find ourselves in Copper Harbor in the future. On a side note, we really enjoyed the variety of things they have in the gift shop right out front. Picked up a couple nice things while we were there. read more

We stayed here for two nights. One night right before we left for Isle Royale, and another night the day we returned. They allow you to keep your vehicle parked there during your stay at Isle Royale which is nice. Unless you have a satellite phone, you won't get service in Copper Harbor. These guys were nice enough to let me use their office phone for my personal business. Wifi is complimentary. The rooms are dated and nothing fancy. But you certainly won't expect to find anything fancy in Copper Harbor except for the Harbor Haus restaurant. You are certainly in walking distance of the Isle Royal Ferry, a few restaurants, and liquor stores. If I go back to Isle Royal, I will stay here again...unless I splurge on the Harbor Haus bed and breakfast. read more

Just what we were looking for. We stayed in cabin #8, half of a duplex. It was dated, but scrupulously clean. It had a mini-fridge and coffeemaker, but no other kitchen appliances. The beds were very comfortable and between that and the fact that the town went very quiet after 9 pm, we were able to get some great sleep. The bathroom was tiny, but spotless. And even though the resort is a block back from the lake, we had a partial lake view. Everyone - the desk staff, the gift shot staff, and the cleaning crew - was very helpful. I reserved online and didn't get the cabin that I expected. I was lucky and the one I wanted was available for the time we were there, so they switched us, but if you're like me and wanted one based on the website pics, it would be a good idea to call to ensure you get the right one. We didn't have any cell service, but we expected that going in and when we weren't out exploring the area, we utilized the resort's wifi for texting as well as a few online activities. It was extremely windy and, as Sherri explained, that affected the wifi signal so it dropped off occasionally, but reconnected very quickly. We also had a decent sized flat panel tv with directv so my husband was able to watch a bit before bed. If you're looking for a boutique hotel, the Minnetonka is not it. In fact, I'd question whether Copper Harbor is the place you want to go. However, if you're looking for a clean, quiet, very reasonably-priced base for exploring the wonders of the area, I'd recommend the Minnetonka. read more

If you are looking for luxury, then Copper Harbor is not for you, Probably, the entire Keweenaw Peninsula is not for you. We, however, love it. We come up almost every year and we stay only at the Minnetonka. The rooms are rustic, clean, and comfortable. Nice bathrooms, fridge, coffee pot, fan, and heater. The people who work there are friendly and happy to help for reasonable requests. The location is fine, although everywhere in Copper Harbor is a short walk to anywhere else. The gift store, as others have said, is a lot of fun. The museum is a hoot if you enjoy tack. Things we do every time we are there: stroll the town, walk to Manganese Falls, see a sunset on the top Brockway Mountain, bike riding, breakfast at the Jam Pot (a 15 minute drive). Swim in Superior on the way back from the Jam Pot. We have a great time, very relaxing. Others are correct that there is no cell phone service in Copper Harbor, which is fine by us. A waitress told us the closest place for cell service is on the 4th tee of the golf course, but we don't bother. read more

This place has it all!! GIft shop for souvenirs, cottages for two overnight or family stays with all the comforts of home. Also deluxe motel rooms with two double beds and luxurious bathrooms....then across the street are additional motel rooms, a camp gound and not to be missed saunas!! All this within walking distance of the boat to Isle Royal, fine eating establishments and quick dirve to Fort Wilkinson, Brockway Mountain and Lake Manganese!!! If you want the best time ever - go for the fall colors....and golf the Keweenaw Lodge course just south of Copper Harbor. I go every chance I get - You won't be disappointed!! read more
