We loved our trip. The staff were so friendly and helpful with everything. The winter setting was beautiful. We had gone in January in hope of seeing the northern lights, but sadly it was overcast and snowy the whole time. This is a "dark sky" location, so it was a bummer. The cabins are adorable. Built by the WPA in the 1930s, but completely updated with modern heating and bathrooms. There was a fireplace, a nice touch. The beds were comfortable and the space was clean. There was a small fridge and a microwave. They do provide simple breakfast, lunch and dinner that is included in the stay. If you want something different, there is a restaurant in town. There is a general store if you need extra snacks, drinks, etc. And Chef Wi will make a special dinner for you if you plan ahead (costs extra). She was so kind and attentive and made us feel welcome. She called us ahead of time to be sure we were aware of the dining options. Cross country skiing and snow shoeing equipment was available at no cost. It's too far away for us to go again, but it must be incredibly beautiful in the spring and summer. read more

It's been 4 years since I last stumbled upon this hidden gem in Copper Harbor! This place reminded me of the movie Dirty Dancing! Since this was an impromptu trip and I only had a few days, I was hoping to be able to spend some time here. Luckily for me, Cabin 10 was available. The highlight of my stay was the dark sky park, which is located on this property. It was a beautiful clear night and I was able to see a million stars and view the northern lights. I absolutely love everything about this rustic gem. It's such a peaceful place to relax, recharge and enjoy nature. I hope to make it back one day. read more

Large cabin had NO kitchen. only a small microwave and small refrig. no pots/pans/plates/plastic silverware, nada. you have to eat out. NO TV. No internet... (very sketchy) . Not much to do in the evenings! Clean enough, but only 3-or 4 of the 20 large log cabins were occupied so it had an eerie, deserted feeling. The owners made us feel that we were intruding on their space. Kind of dark and gloomy. we would not stay there agin. Petty expensive, too. read more

We booked a three night stay for our first visit to the UP in hopes of seeing the Northern lights. The location is gorgeous and the cabins are cute and cozy.(loved the fire place as it was a chilly weekend) We were aware that we would only have a small fridge and microwave in the room with a grill outside our cabin. Since dinner was extremely pricey and only available with extended notice(we tried making reservations for o so days ahead of time and were told they needed two weeks notice), we brought several meals worth of stuff to grill. We did take advantage of our included breakfast burrito each morning but based on photos I'd seen on Google I thought there was a more expansive breakfast and lunch menu. Breakfast was really just a burrito or burrito bowl. Lunch was just a selection of a couple sandwiches. The lodge itself is beautiful but again from Google photos I expected a staffed bar in the main area which was not available. The weather was rainy and cloudy most of the time, obviously not within their control so we didn't achieve our Northern Lights sighting. But one evening was clear and we were able to see a ton of stars, the milky way and even a brief glimpse of the starlink satellites. We encountered many people who visit the lodge annually, but personally while I'm glad to have gone and experienced the UP and Lake Superior it's not something I'd feel the need to do again. I did appreciate some elements of the unplugged relaxation but there were many times during the weekend when we didn't even have gps service which made it difficult to find places we wanted to visit. read more

Rude and inconsiderate staff and ownership. Before we could open the door at the lodge we were met with a lady with a 2-way radio. Told us we should have seen 3 signs before we came here guests only and we must leave. We came as a group of 10 adults. I'm local and wanted to show my out of town family the lodge I have been visiting eating at the once opened restaurant and playing golf for over 40 years! Take this post seriously! Booked the KML as part of a 10 day UP vacation, mostly hiking and waterfall hunting, plus birding and wildlife, hoping for some great stargazing too. KML was the highlight of our 4 different locations, so much that we booked another 4 nights in October! We loved the cabin, exactly what we wanted and extremely well done. The lodge is fantastic, underutilized by design perhaps. We had breakfast one morning, left too early our last morning to partake. Fantastic bowls, great setting. Looking forward to trying dinner at the lodge next time. Also walked the golf course and talked to the groundskeeper, very nice layout and well maintained, also looking forward to playing on our next trip. We got up at 2:30am to try the dark sky park, unfortunately the moon was a bit too bright but we still had an amazing sky. I have a feeling this will be on our list every year when we're booking our getaways! read more

We were staying in the area and decided to try to get some fish again. We sat in the back area with a beautiful view of the golf course. Our server, Taylor, came over to get our drink order. He returned shortly to take our order. We said we wanted to get the Lake Trout we have when we last ate here. He got a look on his face and apologized and said they were out of the Trout. However, he said the chief could fix us a very nice tasty White Fish Sandwich. So we said we would, mine with Sweet Potato Fries and my wife with Slaw. He brought them out and they were hot, fresh and scrumptious. We were not disappointed and were very glad we came back. this is a beautiful park and lodge. If you are in the area give them a try. We are visiting for our third time, , but last time was 10 years ago when we absolutely loved it. Now the rustic has devolved to worse than a roadside hotel. Everything in the place looks worse than anything I have donated to Goodwill. Along with the towels and pillows. We're paying $200 night. What really stuns me is that we had fun going to the lodge previously for drinks in the bar, meeting people, having fun and a dinner in the lodge. All closed now. After 6 you can't even buy a snack inside. You can still buy a meal at the lodge for $100/person, though, if you book ahead and actually like the menu. Sad to see this beautiful, historic place go so downhill. Without the lodge open for anything, this is no longer a "lodge". It's just unrefined log cabins. read more

The food was pretty good, but took a while to come out (we were in a rush this day). My wife got a Greek salad she enjoyed and I got a spicy swine sandwich. I liked it, but I wish it had a little more sauce and I opted for the coleslaw (which tasted good) over the fries ($2 upcharge, but it was a very small dish: I'd pass on it next time). The kids had various pasta dishes, which they all ate. They also had a decent beer selection and I liked some of the layout of the restaurant. The staff we also good. I'll give this place another chance next time I'm in Copper Harbor. read more

By far the WORST lodging experience in my life. The owner, John Mullen, is condescending, unprofessional and belittling to customers. I was in the hospitality business for over a decade and am appalled at how he treated us today. This lodge is a special place to Yoopers and he clearly doesn't appreciate the community by how he spoke to us today. The incompetent receptionist, Monica, charged us for half of a duplex (17) for two nights-- for $998. When we continued to ask about the price, she then realized she made an error and it was $655 with a AAA rate. Still incredibly expensive but she promised the bathrooms were renovated-- which they were NOT. Monica then rented the other half to a random stranger without telling us-- an hour after our checkin. My assumption was that they charged us both for $325/night. When we asked for John Mullen to call us once we realized the huge error his receptionist made in charging us for the entire duplex but renting the other half to a stranger, he refused to call us and told us to come up to lodge. We are paying customers at his lodge and the owner couldn't take the two minutes to return our phone call while staying at his lodge. I called at least five times and they continued to ignore my calls and when they did answer, told me to come to the lodge and that the owner refused to speak to me by phone. We then took time out of our vacation to go speak to John and he refused to refund us until we found the random stranger that they rented the other half of the duplex to as if it is our responsibility. The onus of who they rented a room to is NOT on the customer. Monica, the receptionist had the opportunity to resolve this matter and be honest about her errors, but instead chose to blatantly lie and said she rented the entire cabin to us and never sent the gentleman to our cabin. John stood behind the untruthful receptionist and kept positively reinforcing her continued errors and lies. He then continued to threaten to not refund our money or resolve the matter until we found the other duplex renter. Once he finally refunded our money, the receptionist couldn't even figure out how to divide the original payment by two-- and overcharged us once again. John just stood there drinking his coffee-- no apology or acknowledgement of this entire situation or continued errors. The incompetency of his staff clearly is reinforced by the incompetency of the owner who doesn't know how to speak or treat people with common decency or respect. Something normal people typically learn at his age as a professional in the hospitality business. Clearly not. This owner/lodge cares about your money and nothing else. If you do choose to stay here, be sure to check your credit card statements and your receipts-- and expect to have a stranger in your room when you come home from dinner. read more

We recently stayed here on our National Park road trip. The cabins are lovely rustic cabins. They supply you with plenty of firewood so you can have a nice crackling fire every evening. The property is beautiful and the lodge is really nice. The food was good as well. This was the perfect place to stay while we went and explored Isle Royale National Park as the ferry out is in Copper Harbor and only a 5 minute drive from the lodge. I'd highly recommend giving this place a chance if you are in the area. The owners were extremely helpful and nice. read more

So sad to see what this place has become. As recently as five years ago we could still eat in the main dining room and enjoy the beauty that is the Historic Keweenaw Mountain Lodge. The past few years we've been told the dining room is no longer open and been forced to sit in the bar area...and contend with an abbreviated (and poor quality) bar menu. This year they were out of both the trout and the lake superior whitefish. My family has been coming here since it was built, but nostalgia can't compensate for the continued mismanagement and poor quality. Really sad. read more

Had high hopes that the new owners would do good by this historic place but unfortunately they are not. The lodge is no longer welcoming to the public. They've gone out of their way to make it known they are only there to cater to the guests so gone are the days of stopping in for a drink or some food. Their supposedly world renown chef who prepares $100 plates of spaghetti is rude to customers. Bottom line, unwelcoming and over priced they've alienated the locals and have shut this place down to the public. It will fail so hopefully the new owners will learn lessons. read more

I've been planning a vacation to the Keweenah Peninsula for about a year now. I've been following the recent developments with the change in ownership of the KML. So, I've really been looking forward to coming to the KML especially after hearing they were under new management and hearing about and watching videos concerning the changes and the plan to return the lodge to a place of greatness. We didn't stay at the Lodge this visit but HAD to eat dinner here at least once during our visit. We made reservations for 8PM The Lodge looks Great. The restaurant is very nice. When we arrived about 10 minutes before 8 we waited for about 5 minutes with not a soul at the hostess stand. There were about 6 tables seated. There appeared to be no staff whatsoever. Finally, a server saw us standing in the entrance and approached us telling us that if we were here for dinner we would be in for "quite a bit of a wait." "Even if we have reservations?" I asked.. We were seated promptly at 8:01. Like I said, only about 6 tables seated anyway..., I was a little disappointed that MANY of the other guests looked like they just got done working on their cars before they came to dinner. Cutoffs and sleeveless T-shirts. Only one other guest in the restaurant was wearing a button down shirt. We started off with cheese curds. They took a while to arrive at our table, but, so far so good... They were excellent. If you're into marinara on your cheese curds you'll have to bring your own. Next, a dinner salad, took a while to arrive, but also very good. It's now 9:10, we're over an hour in and we're still waiting for our entrees. Apparently the two tables with parties of 8+ were causing our party of 2 to have to wait. At this point, our server, who was very sweet and apologetic earlier pretty much disappears... We waited another 10 minutes then I went to the kitchen door, asked if I should just leave a $20 on the table to cover our curds and my salad. I was told no, I was free to leave if I wanted to. So we did. Sadly, after 9:00 there is virtually no where on the Keweenah Peninsula to eat. BYE, won't be back. read more

We stayed off-season overnight on a recommendation. Depression era WPA project. Quaint, cozy log construction. Room was large and comfortable, if not fancy. (Been a long time since I've seen a CRT TV.). Dinner was delightful. Big, log lodge. Flavorful strip steaks, done exactly the way we each wanted them. Baked potatoes, seasoned and in foil. Perfect for a log dining room. Not gormet, but excellent. I was carrying wine on the trip, so I asked about corkage. Server had never heard of it, but after consulting with the bartender, they charged me $15. read more

Disgusting!!! After enjoying a nice morning in the copper harbor area, we chose the lodge for lunch. In a mostly-empty dining room, we were seated in an area that used to be the porch, but has since been closed in. The main area of the dining room that we walked through was a comfortable temperature. After sitting in the 'porch' area for a few minutes, we noticed it was humid and stuffy. There were no fans or air conditioning vents in the 'porch' area. After ordering and looking around, we noticed a few flies... and then more flies... and then more flies... it was gross. We mentioned it to the waitress, and she said, "yeah, we have a bit of a fly problem". She never offered for us to move, or spoke to a manager. We should have left then, but we were hungry. The more I thought about it and the fact that we were sitting about 15 feet from the kitchen entrance, I was getting grossed-out by the thought of how many flies must be in the kitchen. Needless to say, by the time the food arrived, I was no longer hungry and left the food on the plate. BTW, I also uploaded pictures of the flies. read more

After a morning of riding through the hills of Upper Peninsula, our group began to get hungry even after the delicious treats at Jampot and a visit up to Brockway Mountain. My dad, ever the planner, booked our group here for our lunch. Our servers were attentive from the start making sure that we had lots of water, iced tea, and soda. They promptly took our orders. The Keweenaw Lodge is decorated in typical lodge with mooseheads and lush carpets. The main dining room reminded me of an old school Continental restaurant I worked at as a teenager with heavy wooden chairs and a warm ambiance. For our lunch, we had three choices of entrees: burger, grilled chicken sandwich, and Cobb salad. Both my husband and I got the burger. It really the spot after riding in the crisp Michigan air for the morning. I saw the salad enjoyed by other riders. In the grand tradition of the UP, the salad was served in a gigantic bowl. It seemed like every salad served in the UP came in large bowls. Our group seemed pretty happy with the lunch, so it was a success! I liked the Keweenaw Mountain Lodge for our lunch stop. The food was good and the sights were beautiful. I could see returning to the Lodge for a quiet vacation. read more

The Montain Lodge is the premier hotel / restaurant in the Keweenaw Peninsula. It does not get any better than this, folks. I come here every summer and have at least one dinner here with friends. Played golf then had dinner with a group of friends. The menu prices were a tad high for the quality of food you get. I ordered the jerked chicken wings appetizer. It was deep fried breaded wings with a splash of jerk? Not very gourmet. I had the full rack of ribs, which was tender but the BBQ sauce was so-so. They have room to improve the sauce. The price was reasonable. Side salad was not crisp. Overall, they just made it to 3 stars. read more

The cabin is exactly that. A cabin. There was an electric fire place and a small tv with satellite which was nice. The bed wasn't anything to write home about, but it did the job. I did notice that the walls are very thin so if you have loud neighbors that could be bothersome. I can't forget to mention that everything was very clean and towels were supplied daily just as they would be at a hotel. They allow dogs for a small fee which was worth it to bring ours along. My biggest disappointment was the food at the lodge which was overpriced. I ordered the mac and cheese sandwich which sounded good and was highly recommended by our waitress. However, what I received was bread with very obviously boxed kraft mac and cheese with deli ham that was so salty I had to remove it from the sandwich to finish it. Needless to say I wouldn't pay 8 cents for that sandwich let alone 8 dollars. Very disappointing. And I'm still hungry. read more

Hands down the best calamari in town. Prepared perfectly, flash fried, not greasy, and a generous portion. The calamari was served on a bed of delicious marinara (slight heat). We also had their Jamaican jerk chicken sandwich with curry coleslaw on ciabatta bread. We'll be back! read more

My wife and I have been eating at the Keweenaw Mountain Lodge since the late 1960's and live just several miles away . Our children have been eating here since they were infants and are now in their thirties and forties.When we came up in the summer months we ate here, played golf and just hung around on an almost daily basis and much of the time ate breakfast, lunch and dinner here. It was very relaxing here and we would sometimes walk from our place on Lake Medora to the Lodge for lunch and then to either Copper Harbor or back home.Everything was hunky dory here until about maybe 8 to 10 years ago when everything started to decline ( services seemed to be cut on a regular basis, management changed every year or so, no longer ate in the dining room and beautiful porch area, no longer fires in the fireplace, food quality dropped from a 9 or 10 to a 3 or 4 at best, service was a disgrace and the entire place seemed like it was shutting down from lack of care. We we're feeling very disappointed that such a wonderful place was so neglected- Thankfully, the Lodge was sold last fall (2018) and the new owners and staff were able to breathe new life into the Keweenaw Lodge with numerous and tasteful updates everywhere and revitalization of the lodging facilities and restaurant. We attended the first function (Mother's Day)-brunch and it was wonderful-with great food, service and now eating in the dining room and porch area where you should be eating. Everyone is cheerful again and it is so wonderful to see what they have done to make this establishment once again the premier place for food and lodging in the Keweenaw area. We ate there yesterday and had the beef stew which just great ( a 10) -We will now be making our regular trips there and thanks for making the Keweenaw Mountain Lodge great again. read more

This resort has a lot of potential but is over priced for its current offerings. We stayed in one of the hotel rooms, while it was spacious, it smelled quite musty and doesn't have TVs. I'm ok with no TV as long as there are other nighttime activities which for the most part there were not. Bar closed at 10pm. Apparently there are new owners and it shows. Staff members were friendly but no one seemed to know answers to our questions which got to be annoying. The food in the lodge was seriously over priced. The breakfast available was a Bagel and cream cheese :|. The golf course was in pretty rough shape and we were happy not to overpay to play. Overall it was a very disappointing experience. read more

I must tell you about the Keweenaw Mountain Lodge. The restaurant to be exact. I am so pleased there is a new owner who is sincere enough to take on the enormous task of restoring and updating this historical "gracious lady". It is now Spring and how appropriate to feel a breath of fresh air inside this lodge. Come and see the renovations, furniture, lovely plants and wonderful lighting fixtures . Tables have been set and are waiting for you to sit down and enjoy a meal. There is a small food menu for now but the choices cover a snack to a full meal with much better food and preparation. If you did not eat here on Mother's Day- you really missed a nice time. Food buffet was good with a rose for all of the ladies. There was even a terrific pop-up florist to the left of the dining area when you entered enabling you to purchase more flowers, bouquets and personalized arrangements if needed. Wait staff is up-beat and cheerful. Janna is excellent and knowledgeable.This place is definitely worth a try. I believe you are in for a pleasant, much waited for, surprise. read more

The Keewenaw Mountain Lodge is a sprawling resort in the pine mountains (really big hills) of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. It offers an idyllic if somewhat raggedly maintained golf course (let's call it rustic), tennis, and unpretentious dining(specialy is prime rib, which is tasty...other options vary in quality). Like much of the area near Copper Harbor, it is crawling with blackflies; even counting them is darn near impossible, so wear long pants and sleeves. Cottages are available for rent. A good lodging location for visitors to the UP. read more

"Nobody puts Baby in a corner!" ...Walk into the Lodge and step back in time. The Keweenaw Mountain Lodge is one of our favorite, kitschy lunch spots in the U.P. The food is nice, though not particularly special, and the service is usually quite friendly. I enjoy their ham and macaroni and cheese sandwich on brioche bread, while my husband routinely orders a burger. The kids get some sort of fried food option that is standard on UP kids' menus and the lodge happily subs salads for the fries if we ask, which is nice. We really enjoy the 50's family lodge ambiance and rustic surroundings. As another reviewer noted, there are occasionally flies, but I've not thought them to be overwhelming (you usually are seated on a screened-in porch, after all). We make it a habit to get lunch at the Lodge a few times each summer after a day of hiking or biking up in Copper Harbor. Give it a shot! read more

Food was good, service so so. Our waitress had a little attitude. Not friendly at all. The food was very tasty and reasonably priced. We had plenty to eat and our bill for two was less than 25 including tip. Great ambiance but we got stuck sitting where we really did not want to sit and server was not accommodating when she could have been. It put a bit of a damper on the evening. But hopefully that was a one time thing . I'd give a 2.5 for service and a 4 for food . read more
