Apple Valley DMV - You have to wait outside no matter how cold

Moved to MN from TX last month. Finally got off my kiester to get my DL and vehicle registration…read moreswitched over. Came here cuz it was nearby to my new residence. It's a smaller, more intimate, maybe you might even say rustic, DMV. The walls were plastered with fun hockey posters and license plates from various states, plus a big sasquatch if you want a selfie to commemorate your new residency in the land of lakes. This DMV was not big, commercialized, or intimidating, which was nice. Small parking lot as a result, but I found a spot easily enough and joined the line of people outside. There was a line simply because they have a limit on the number of people that can be crowded inside at any given time (I think 15?). Probably leftover from the COVID-19 days; but I gotta say, not having quite so many bodies inside was actually nice once I got in there (didn't feel crowded or noisy or stuffy as a result), and I didn't mind waiting outside on such a nice balmy day as today was. Might've felt a lot differently on a winter day, haha. There were about four employees behind the counter working diligently away at the queue, calling numbers as they went. I read the signage above the counter that had instructions, took a number, grabbed my necessary paper form and filled it out while I waited. Overall I don't think I waited more than fifteen minutes to be seen! That was awesome. The person who helped me initially was off-putting and quiet (probably because they deal with so many grumpy people), but they quickly warmed up to me as we chat and exchanged pleasantries and stories. (Such as me remarking on them playing awesome 80's music in the background.) The process was reasonably efficient. I was given estimated wait times for when I would receive my official documents in the mail. Left happy.

The good and the bad. Good: nice display of license plates…read moreon the walls. Female staff was very nice after I had the proper documents for real ID. You need a county birth certificate not hospital ceremonial one, mail with your name on it, and other identification. Bad: man working is a douche. He also yelled at my 2 year old son, 19 years ago when he stood on a chair. He also yells at customers. This location is faster at getting you served. The Dakota County one in Burnsville has inconsistent hours. Fridays before memorial day weekend are insanely busy. Now I wait up to 8 weeks for real ID to arrive. I also renewed my passport today. We'll see which one arrives first.

Love this little library more and more each time I go there…read more For one, the first trip I took, I made friends with one of the librarians there (Matt), who helped get me signed up for a library card and explain all the services I could get through the library. Matt always recognizes me (and/or my husband) and will go out of his way to say hi. It's really so sweet. Further, I love the selection available here. Especially of LGBTQ+ books. I anticipate this will be a great boon during the winter months when I end up holed up devouring books for entertainment. I was super happy when I saw the kiosk they created for Pride Month (June) to showcase a number of their books available. I also appreciated seeing menstrual products available for free in the men's restroom. The kids area is super duper cute, with lots of painted murals and such. In the back, there's a large table to work on jigsaw puzzles. They have some books available for purchase books at very affordable prices too towards the front. You can rent DVDs/blurays too. And there are computers you can use. They do occasional classes or events/activities. The library is clean and cozy in good condition. I wouldn't mind spending an extended time there. The checkout process is really simple/easy-to-use and highly automated. So glad this library exists near me!

The instructor, Matt, was very knowledgeable and helpful. In class, we used a modeling software package to make a design. Matt is going to look at our designs and make adjustments and suggestions prior to printing. You can reserve a 3D printer for up to 4 hours. I can't wait to print my design. I'm looking to create some custom earrings. I also attended a Fix-it-Clinic. It was packed! I didn't have time to wait for suggestions on the repair of a speaker but I hope to attend the next clinic or check out another library. Lots of people getting sewing repairs, lamps, appliances, etc repaired by many knowledgeable repairers. Libraries offer so many free services. It's worth applying to their newsletters and checking out a future event.

I was here for the Eagan Indoor Market (select Wednesdays) being held in one of the gathering rooms on the lower level. It was a bit smaller than I'd been anticipating from the list of vendors on the website, but it was still nice to browse local small businesses, and I'm glad the community center makes the time and space for folks to do so. While there, I scoped out what appeared to be the "main attraction" so to speak, the fitness center, which has a large gymnasium, equipment, and an indoor track. They had plenty of showers, bathrooms, water fountain/bottle refill station, coat racks, vending machines with beverages and snacks, and a place to get changed and such. Seems really nice, but the pricing online seemed a bit steep to me ($40/mo.); a shame, my husband and I have been looking for an indoor track so we can run in the winter without worrying about slipping on the ice! There's also an indoor kids playplace ($8 fee) on the upper level and a senior center on the lower level. So they are trying to cater to all ages here. The parking lot is quite sizable, so no worries about finding a place to park (unless of course there's a big event going on at the festival grounds!). There are plenty of outdoor amenities in the surrounding Eagan Central Park too, such as a kid's playground, splash pad, fitness course, walking paths, and bandshell. There's also a postbox near the entrance of the building if you need to drop off some mail while you're here.

I wish the space was a little bigger as it can get a little crowded in the little space in front of the gym but all in all had a great time. Easy access to bathrooms near by as well along with a small party room connected.
