Moved to MN from TX last month. Finally got off my kiester to get my DL and vehicle registration switched over. Came here cuz it was nearby to my new residence. It's a smaller, more intimate, maybe you might even say rustic, DMV. The walls were plastered with fun hockey posters and license plates from various states, plus a big sasquatch if you want a selfie to commemorate your new residency in the land of lakes. This DMV was not big, commercialized, or intimidating, which was nice. Small parking lot as a result, but I found a spot easily enough and joined the line of people outside. There was a line simply because they have a limit on the number of people that can be crowded inside at any given time (I think 15?). Probably leftover from the COVID-19 days; but I gotta say, not having quite so many bodies inside was actually nice once I got in there (didn't feel crowded or noisy or stuffy as a result), and I didn't mind waiting outside on such a nice balmy day as today was. Might've felt a lot differently on a winter day, haha. There were about four employees behind the counter working diligently away at the queue, calling numbers as they went. I read the signage above the counter that had instructions, took a number, grabbed my necessary paper form and filled it out while I waited. Overall I don't think I waited more than fifteen minutes to be seen! That was awesome. The person who helped me initially was off-putting and quiet (probably because they deal with so many grumpy people), but they quickly warmed up to me as we chat and exchanged pleasantries and stories. (Such as me remarking on them playing awesome 80's music in the background.) The process was reasonably efficient. I was given estimated wait times for when I would receive my official documents in the mail. Left happy. read more

The good and the bad. Good: nice display of license plates on the walls. Female staff was very nice after I had the proper documents for real ID. You need a county birth certificate not hospital ceremonial one, mail with your name on it, and other identification. Bad: man working is a douche. He also yelled at my 2 year old son, 19 years ago when he stood on a chair. He also yells at customers. This location is faster at getting you served. The Dakota County one in Burnsville has inconsistent hours. Fridays before memorial day weekend are insanely busy. Now I wait up to 8 weeks for real ID to arrive. I also renewed my passport today. We'll see which one arrives first. read more

The manager accused me of lying about me seeing them close 15 mins early! I think it's truly appalling! I wish they had people who smiled and cared about people! I had a very positive experience one time. Otherwise, I don't appreciate being talked to especially by the "owner". I posted the review in this review! They are the worst DMV i have ever been to my wife tried to get a real ID yesterday and she got there at 4:00 pm and they would not help her and told her she needs to get there earlier in the day. We work and have jobs, she was the only one there they could not manage to process a real ID the guy who runs it maybe the owner is the worst person I have ever meet. I no longer go there I go to Rosemount for tabs and Lakeville or Prior Lake for a license. I will never set foot in that place and the state should take away their license and find someone else with a better personality that will serve the Apple Valley. read more

The staff was very friendly & fast. They were very helpful and answered any questions I had.

I arrived at 9am and there was a long line. They allow 15 people to wait inside and I was about 10th in line outside. The weather was nice so it was okay, but do not go if it is raining! As a person leaves, a person can enter. There is an older guy who yells at customers if he thinks they entered too soon. I waited a total of 33 minutes. Don't expect any ambiance inside; there were a few card chairs and it's kind of dumpy. The woman who waited on me was very friendly and nice. I filled out the form for license renewal online (if you don't, you have to do it there at a cramped table and lose your place in line, so do it before you come) and it was reasonably quick. When I left about 9:45 the line outside was shorter, about 5 people, so apparently it's better to go later in the morning. I paid cash, I think they take a check but not sure about credit card, possibly not. read more

I went in to get a real ID almost a year ago. The owner of the place wouldn't approve mine because I had a copy of my birth certificate. Ok fine. I come in the next day with my original birth certificate, he won't approve it because, get this, it has a fold in it. I go to Burnsville, no problems with the fold. Approved without mention. I'm sure people come in without proper documentation. But a fold? Ridiculous. No one likes going to the DMV but to be a stickler on a fold is absolutely horrible customer service, no customer-decency. read more

They claim to be full service, but they couldn't help me with the issue that I brought in. My experience was that they weren't full service, and I had to wait 45 minutes until my number got called up to the counter to find that out. read more

If you're going to lock the door 30 mins before the posted closing time. make that obvious. HOW ABOUT ACCURATELY STATING THE CLOSING TIME

Should be called Apple Valley DMP because this location is absolute crap. They don't process Real IDs after 4 PM- I got there and got my ticket well before 4 PM, my ticket just wasn't called until after 4. I got there 40 minutes prior closing and they still didn't want to help me, they were very very rude and barely wanted to talk to me

Nothing on the website indicates that they can close 15-30 minutes ahead. Made people stand outside for 30 minutes and locked the door without a word. Change your advertised hours if you have no intention on staying open. Now I remember why why I avoided this place in the past. read more

No one likes going to the DMV but the Apple Valley location is one of the best. Very busy all the time but the staff members work hard to keep things moving. Everyone who has helped me has been courteous and efficient. read more

This is not an actual DMV. Be very careful because they can only service about half of what you actually need done. After waiting in line for an hour, I was told that they can't actually take payments for what I needed to pay for. I will never come back here again. read more

They lie about the hours they are open. They always close before the time their front door and web site state they are open till. They take a whole hour to see 10 people and the rest of the people waiting are standing in line outside in the cold for hours. Their employees are moving so slowly I have a feeling they all get high through out the day. The lady who "helped" me was extremely rude and ignorant. If you don't like your job, choose a new one rather than ruining the experience for the customer. they don't seem to know the real regulations, first time getting my real i.d. there .they asked for social security number that i used for over 43 years they said it was wrong then asked for card , i didn't have it .got sent home to get my military orders with the social security number on it. i brought dd 214.i came back new staff only asked for the number without asking for my dd214 got real i.d. yeh! lost my real i.d.during hunting trip ,applied for new one and was told my last driver license on the record was a standard one.they said they needed to see and see my social security card plus my pay stubs. hmmm... i'm retired and lost that card..i do have a copy of my real i.d. on my international driving license. read more

Folks behind the counter were very pleasant and helpful. As soon as I entered, I was called up and the service was quick and professional. They seemed to be knowledgeable for any questions received from the people around me as I was being helped. Surprisingly a fairly lively place (in a good way), not like a dark hole in the wall DMV. I hope everyone else in prior reviews continue to go elsewhere with the insanely long lines; I'll be back here again. read more

Employees are poorly trained and cannot handle the Real or Enhanced DL's. They ask for documentation that is NOT required. I had to make a return trip since they claimed I was missing something. Then it takes up to 4 months to get the stinking DL! Their computer system worked in the past, now it doesn't...and they claim they need 100M to fix it. There is no excuse for the rudeness of the workers either. If they don't want to deal with the public find another job. They are more concerned with their stinking Union and benefits than with serving the people who pay their salaries. read more

I went there with the intent of getting an address change and because a couple people I know said they were looking for staff, I also am looking for employment. After watching how they treated the customers and then experiencing how I was treated, I wouldn't work their for any amount of money. Stopped to get license tags. Had 22 people ahead of me. But within 10-15 minutes I was taken care of. Courteously and professionally. Lots of help there and the whole process went very smoothly. read more

I usually go to Burnsville and it's a pleasant experience but it happens to be Saturday so I was stuck with Apple Valley. Pointless. Dmv suck no matter what. I renewed tabs here easy parking came in you grab a number plate wait to be called up and done. The place didn't have much going for decor or personality from employees but got what I needed and fast too. This is the worst DMV with pretentious and snobby people especially a man in his late 40's with black curly hair. He took one look at me and turned away my title for a small rip in it. I quickly went to the DMV in Eagan off of highway 13 and the lady was working explained that though certain DMV's are stricter this title should. Or have rejected because everything was great but a small tear. Maybe this happened because I'm a legal immigrant from Brazil but he did not look at the title he looked at me and denied it before even saying hello. Apple Valley DMV blatantly lies to their customers about giving "pride" to their customers and "happy to help". They are extremely rude, a horrible act of character, they don't have any good communication skills to any of their customers. They treated us so poorly. They are very ignorant and disrespectful to their nice customers. They disrespected my mother and I on Saturday October, 3, 2020 around 9 AM. An older man and woman with red curly hair was very sarcastic and snappy at me. They were rude completely and do not help us, they just hurt your well being as a customer. I was shaking because of how mean they are. We give them so much of our money every year and we will not ever go there again at the Apple Valley DMV. People have had this same experience as my mother and I. We are loyal customers who deserve respect from people who get so much money from the us!! No more of that. Had to get new tabs. Was in and out in less than 5 min. Not to say they don't get busy as I went in the early morning. I was pleasantly surprised to see they accept credit cards now. I had come here years ago and was forced to use an ATM to get cash previously. However, they do charge a 2.5% fee when you use a credit card. Worth it for me for the conscience. read more

I am only giving this 2 stars because it is fairly quick going into this DMV and getting out. I've been in here twice and both times had poor customer service by two different people. First, the parking lot is not adequate for the number of people using this location. Staff is not particularly friendly either. Don't go at the end of the month because there isn't enough seats or room to accommodate everyone. I had been sent a card that a license renewal was going to cost $25.25 so I brought cash. Then, I'm told the rates when up to $32 plus I had to pay a fee to use my debit card. read more

The male Manager or supervisor there is extremely ignorant, perhaps poorly educated and racist. I have been there several times, and I have observed his behavior. He has rejected me twice and never gave me opportunity to present my documents and speak. However when I took the case to other offices and explained to them, they are baffled that he rejected me. He lacked the understanding that taxpayers irrespective of their background, provide the opportunity for him to be in position to make decisions because of the taxes they pay. The male manager or supervisor is pompous, ill mannered or totally bereft of leadership skills, and only serve some people with courtesy, but does not do the same for others because of their gender and race. I think that office needs to be investigated for not only it's bad customer service, but its treatment of other people. I am actually going to provide the name of man to a local newspaper and the Attorney General's office. read more

Appalled at how rude the employees are here. I understand that they have to deal with a lot of people and it can be frustrating but it gives them no right to be so rude and combative with others. They chose to work in customer service. It is disgusting how the Manager (Male that is always working there) mistreats others on a regular basis. I have been to this DMV multiple times over the last 20 years and they are always rude to people. I was there today for 30 minutes and overheard him tell 3 people (all elderly s) to "calm down". 3 people! The customers were all calm and maybe slightly misinformed but did NOT deserve the rude treatment. The lady that helped me was in the middle of helping another person, got frustrated, threw her hands up and shouted "I am talking to my manager" and stormed off into the back room. The lady and the manager were discussing the situation and the man was trying to correct her when she misspoke. Stops taking customers 10 minutes before close so really they close at 4:50 PM. Nice deceptive tricks to waist people's time. I went in to register a kayak. First time that I've ever done it. Tried calling through out the day to ask some basic questions. I got no response from t hi email bbn or the state office. So I go in and I needed a hull number, I tell the rude guy ar the counter that I will be back shortly I only live a mile away he says nothing about that they stop taking the customers 10 min before close. I leave and I get back and it is 9 min till closing. They won't see me. I had a number before but they say I have to come back on Saturday. Wow, for being a "customer service" based business they sure suck at customer service. Would give 0 stars if I could. Avoid if you can help it! read more
