I only ever go to this particular DMV because everyone is friendly and quick to get business done. There is almost always a small line. Even if it's long. It goes by fast because the staff hear you and get things done accurately. Not to mention being Latina it's nice to know it's diversed by Asian and Latino backgrounds working here. They treat you like humans with respect unlike other DMVs. Where they feel entitled to have a bad mood and treat you less or just a number. You can feel it and tell a difference. read more

First of all, okay services. The woman helping me was alright -- she seemed standoffish towards me and almost unwelcoming. Didn't have me complete sufficient information on a form when I took that same form to a better place. Second of all, she took something from me (???). I've made multiple phone calls where they said they'd call me back (and NEVER did -- no voicemails, no messages, no callbacks, NOTHING) and even visited in-person to check if it was still there. Nope. To rub salt in the wound, this item was a folder with important documents inside that I needed that same day. Regardless of whether it was empty or not, it still shouldn't have been taken from me. I still don't understand; I mean, is this place really that low on folders that they feel the need to TAKE them from their underage clientele? Can they not spare 99¢ for one from Walmart? I'm not sure if it's custom for staff to take items from consumers, but nonetheless it's very unappreciated and unprofessional. Thanks! read more

I don't know his name, but he tried to gaslight TF out of me for doing something wrong that he told me to do on the test and then failed me for it. Not like any reviews matter since it's the GOV and they don't give a F about rules, customer service or giving the correct info. Took me 3 times going there to get mew plates form moving out state. Each time they want a different document, I bring that document and they say oh now you need this one. Each time they say that's all you need is this one doc. I bring the doc and we still need another one. There is no way a customer and someone that pays taxes to support this DMV shouldn't have basic customer service and training to let their workers know what needs to be brought in. read more

The older woman seems to need a long break from the job; she grumpily sent me away from her counter, and later I heard another customer say she seemed like a mean person. A younger guy who helped me was nice enough and pretty unflappable. BUT he had no idea how to complete changes in line with Minnesota state law for domestic-violence victims in safety programs, and he got something wrong a couple of times. Today, I looked at my temporary license again and found that he got the spelling of my first name wrong. I do doubt the DMV cares about these reviews, but they should. All of their staff should have training on the law surrounding domestic-violence programs in the state and how that impacts driver's license information. There was just one person there, a younger woman, who not only understood the procedures but was also kind to me. She understood that making sure everything is checked off and recorded correctly is CRITICAL to my safety. The guy who helped me just kind of kept trying to figure it all out before asking a white dude who was equally clueless and uninterested in troubleshooting. Then I insisted he finally get better help, and the young woman stepped in. When she couldn't figure out where to find a particular check box, she asked him to call DMV central. The whole thing was unnecessarily stressful. Update: spoke to a really nice woman on the phone at DMV central; she told me someone caught the misspelling on my driver's license and fixed it! I'm impressed and grateful. I'm still hoping they address ignorance at the local offices around how domestic-violence impacts driver's license info. I am also hoping they understand that at some point, some staff can burn out, and the signs need to be recognized and the burn out needs to be addressed. It cannot be easy working with the public day after day, but impatience and condescension won't improve that. read more

Whoa! This location is a complete disaster. I arrived with all my proper identification to switch my WA State DL to a MN DL. After showing my current DL, my Social Security Card and my Passport, I was cleared to enter the area to take my Knowledge Test. I took the test and subsequently passed with a 36/40 score. I then got back into a queue to finish the protocols to receive my interim license. There was an older man and woman working side by side on Tuesday, 2/28 and they were unpleasant and arrogant to everyone that dared to ask a question or request a test in another language. Standing in line I felt all my senses telling me this was going to be unpleasant as I witnessed the male, dmv person speak very loudly to the man that he was helping. Apparently he thought screaming the English language at someone was the proper channel for retention. It was then my turn and after I said, "hello" he rolled his eyes and held his hand out for my identifications. I handed them over and I asked, "will my middle name be on my DL?" He tersely replied, "I can't change your name." I replied, "I do not expect you to. I'm simply curious as it doesn't matter." He then said, "You seem uptight about it, so go to another line." He then handed me my items back. His dmv colleague looked at me and said, "so your passport doesn't have your middle name on it? If not, you have to obtain a legal name change in the State of MN." I was flabbergasted. I returned home and asked my neighbor as he is a Judge. He started laughing and said, "That's ridiculous and inaccurate. They were gaslighting you to cover up for their behavior. Go to another dmv location that offers the knowledge test and finish the process." I did just that without a problem! In short, go to this location if you're open to dishonest and unscrupulous employees. read more

The stat really needs to rethink who they hire because they are opening themselves up to lawsuits based on the abusive things the exam personnel say to minors. My child had an exam today and was really nervous. he failed and had mentioned he figured he would because he was "super nervous" the person doing the test called him "ignorant" for being nervous and told him he wouldn't amount to anything in life of he was nervous about something so simple. My son took his drivers test today. The female instructor was great, before the test began she told him to not be nervous, she told him she wasn't going to try and trick him and that she wanted him to pass. He completed the test in 6 minutes. We had pre registered online so there was only a wait of two people before he was able to do his paperwork. The whole experience from check in, taking the drivers test and completing his paperwork took less than 45 minutes. All people we encountered were very friendly. Great experience. I was nervous to have him take his test here because I had read so many horrible reviews. That was not our experience at all. read more

Not only do customers have to waste time, but the processes are so outdated, they are wasting money on lack of productivity as well. It looks like everyone has been complaining about the same woman that I am about to. I had really no issues getting my license and the person who helped me was wonderful (short blond hair who was very sweet). Everything went smoothly for me. What I witnessed while standing in line though really upset me. This older woman (gray hair) was so condescending and rude to an elderly customer who genuinely was confused and obviously needed help. Instead of providing help like a decent human being, she sat there rolling her eyes at him, being short, and just treating him like he was dirt. After multiple attempts at asking for help on how to fill out the form, the gentleman got flustered/embarrassed and just checked a box because she was so impatient with him. She then had the nerve to say "just put whatever you want and if it is wrong, it is YOUR fault" SERIOUSLY? He took the time to come here to get a license which is a shitty process to begin with and you are going to sit there knowingly let him make a mistake because you are a fuckin lazy piece of shit. Shame on you. I would hope that her family member never gets treated the way she treats people. To make things worse, it doesn't even end there. When he gives her the form he filled out, she yanks it from him in such a belittling way. I just couldn't believe it! It was horrible. I hope the DMV manager and supervisor take these complaints seriously. I don't except for DMVs to be great experience where everyone is all wonderful and bubbly, but I certainly don't expect for them to have an employee represent them the way she did. Awful. read more

It's a DMV, what do you expect? They only take cash and checks. There is an ATM on site. It was crowded mid-day. The line for written exams was super long from what I can tell If you are going to simply renew your drivers license, fill out the form (they are stacked along the side of the windows) before you get on line. Don't wait on line for 10 minutes, then be told this important fact (which is admittedly posted, but on a very small sign). Seriously, there are more "turn off your cell phone" signs then actual, useful signs. Not my favorite place in the world. read more

I did not see the no cell phone sign, so I was on my phone and the smaller of the two ladies told me to get off of it, which I did. I don't have a problem with that. Five stars for driver's license road test examiner Sean. Upon entering the car, Sean noted my son's major anxiety and stress (both test related and due to a family death) and took quite a bit of extra time with him to "talk him down" to help the anxiety dissipate. I suspect most examiners probably see 30+ people every day, if not more, and it would have been SO easy for him to just ignore my son's anxieties and let my son fail so he could keep the "line" of testers moving. Instead he took the time to really care and because of that my son was successful and he passed the test. If it weren't for this darn Covid I would have hugged the guy! It was first thing on a Monday morning, so I figured it would be an in-and-out kind of thing. I stood in line for about 10 minutes waiting to take the exam, took the test, then stood in line for about 15 minutes waiting for the post-test stuff where they take your picture and all. It took a total of 45 minutes, which isn't too bad considering it's a government facility. Pros: - Thankfully I had all the documentation I needed, which meant I could get a MN license with a different last name than my previous license (name changed due to marriage). The woman behind the counter just took the ones she needed from my stack and handed back the ones not needed. - The test wasn't unreasonably hard. I didn't study and still passed with a 91%. It's just logic. - The blond guy behind the counter asked if I wanted to take the picture again after I laughed about how it looked horrible. I thought that was really kind of him considering they were busy. Cons: - The woman behind the counter in the examination area was a little rude. She never said anything particularly snotty, but her overall demeanor told me that she was annoyed with me and with her job. - The lines were a bit long for a first thing in the morning visit. But that's only sort of a con since it's to be expected at a government facility. - The headphones that you use during the examination are in no way sanitized btwn you and the person precious. There is quite possibly a way to automate this process and spare us all the misery of having to deal with some of the unhappiest people to disgrace any line of work. I went in to this location this morning with my wife to renew an expired license, and we had to chuckle while reading a posted note stating to refrain from using 'profanity, violence and threat of violence'. Although I have enough restraint to prevent me from resorting to such actions, it became quite apparent why some people may employ such methods in dealing with the people behind the counters. The overweight woman, well, one of them anyway, was rude, condescending and insolent, within less than the first minute. This truly is an excellent example of government's inability to provide simple and rudimentary services adequately and efficiently. Automating this process will not only save taxpayers a great deal of money, even after paying welfare benefits to the unemployable clerks once out of work, but will save the rest of us undue irritation due to these under-stimulated human beings. read more

The staff here was extremely rude and treated all the customers like we were stupid. For example, when I was getting my vision test at the counter the machine was not working. I had my forehead pressed tightly to the machine as I was told and when I explained there was nothing on the screen she was very rude and condescending despite the fact that the machine was obviously malfunctioning. I had to transfer my license from another state to MN. Unfortunately, MN does not give many choices of locations a written test is offered but I would defintely recommend staying away from the Eagan location if possible. read more

Where to begin.... First visit at this location we did a walk in, at the window for setting up the road test as a walk in the lady asked if we had an appointment nicely but then her attitude changed when we said no. Her next response was "Well I advice you to just leave, were to busy to deal with walk-ins and you will be waiting a long time. Come back after you make an a appointment.." We still decided to wait which took a little over two hours before an instructor for the driving test showed up. He approached the car opened the passenger side door and rudely demanded the passenger out of the car like a dog pointing to away from the vehicle I was the passenger. I said nothing and did as instructed feeling really annoyed I was treated so rudely. That was the beginning of the problems that day. My friend whom had to deal with this instructor went though his testing in a very short amount of time. He complained to me later the instructor rushed him though the course, gave him instructions in which you had no time to respond and a few other concerning issues involving the instructor not paying attention his surroundings and giving his tester ill advised instructions. The said instructor chewed me out after they got back at how awful my friends driving was and how he nearly got them into an accident and his defensive driving sucks. I listen to what the instructor says and then head to the restroom. After I come out of the restroom and started to leave. I saw the instructor being approached by a female instructor whom asked. "So you failed another one?" He replied "Yes! These walk-ins are a waist of my time and paper work. Making us do extra work for nothing they shouldn't bother if they don't have an appointment. Not worth our time to deal with them." I was pissed.... The second instructor we had a few weeks later I will say was awesome, really nice guy... We had no problems after we made the appointment so I have no issues here. Sadly my friend made a mistake on the course on the trick question part so to speak where the two lane road with no proper markings and lines are faded looks like a one way but is actually a two way. He was doing it correctly until he had to make a left thinking he had to move over since it was a one way. He'd pass if he didn't do that... Oh well.. The next part of this mess is after the second visit, since my friend is returning for his 7th time. He was told that he needs a supervisor to sit in with him for his testing. So he was given a number and told to call. Long story short, 24 messages later, 40 calls. No answer, no return calls and no emails returned he is still trying to set up his appointment.
