They also sell dahl puri rotis for those so inclined. I browsed for a while looking for something else to grab and eventually decided on some okra and a pistachio kulfi. An interesting mix of items not to be found easily at any traditional grocery store. I went through their flour and spice section very slowly and there is a lot there to make me happy.

Bollywood music is playing, staff, family and friends stand around talking and laughing. The shelves are lined with exotic foods unknown to the average western palette. There's a mix of spice and musk in the air and one imagines all of the fabulous foreign dishes that could be made to make dinnertime more interesting, if life weren't so hectic and busy. If Indian fast food is as close as you'll ever get to authentic, there's a section of pre-prepared Indian sauces that seem a bit cheaper than they are at Safeway.

Customer service was great and the lady who was working there was nice and friendly. I saw she was offering sweets to customers and explaining about Persian traditions. She also mentioned that hopefully they start their bakery too and we can get fresh Persian breads from them! :) Overall the experience was great and I'm sure I'll go back there a lot.

Located in a strip mall, this is a large, very crowded (so much stock everywhere) store with a warmer by the cash for the food. They fry all day until 10pm so chances are you'll get fresh chicken. It's pretty cheap; we got the 6 pieces + fries for $14 and 2 samosas for $2 each. We wouldn't get the samosas again because there are much cheaper places out there and they were just ok. But we came specifically for the chicken - and the chicken itself was also ok. Fresh, not dry and not too greasy were all pluses. I wish it was more seasoned/flavoured and crunchier. It tastes very similar to grocery store fried chicken (which I like!). I think it was an ok meal and the price was right. I don't think I'd go out of my way to make a trip.

During a conversation with an Indian couple about the…read moredifficulty of finding restaurants from our home country that satisfies (I've never really found a Filipino restaurant to match my dad's cooking) they mentioned this was one of the very few places in town that reminded them of a "home cooked meal." You have to drive past the the imposing New Asian Village and a blink-and-you'll-miss-it sign off the side of a small complex, to find Shafi. It's a small place, and like some of its bigger and more commercial cousins, offers a buffet. But, the Indian couple quickly dis missed it in favour of ordering ala carte, which is what my husband I ended up doing. We were also warned of wait times (as it was truly home cooked), so we quickly ordered vegetable samosas to start off with while we pondered what to order for dinner. I'm not an Indian cuisine connoisseur, but I can easily say they were the best samosas I've ever had. The chutney sauce with the chickpeas were paired very well with the pastry and veggie filling. I'm glad we ordered enough for two. For dinner, we ended up ordering lamb chops (for me) and tandoori chicken half (for him) and we were asked if we would like to have it as spicy as they normally had it or milder. Of couse, we said as they normally have it! In short: the meal was very satisfying and it did feel like we were eating at someone's home.
