Finally happy to try this Vietnamese restaurant as I pass it almost every day, and it simply its because I feel it wont be as good as the restaurants who embraced the 'pho movement' the ones you would generally find hipsters eating at, where Siracha is the new ketchup, where the standard theme is rustic / street food. This restaurant MINH, unfortunately meets those expectation. Feels like a chinese takeaway, quite rushed, quite oily, no emphasis on taste, as long it take ok, and fills you up, I believe its the mentality.
Vietnamese pancake - they forgot the pancake, food laced with MSG, Salt. Ended downing gallons of water after a spoon of the pho stock. Tried the fried noodle dish, where was the taste.
Its similar to a chinese takeaway, Speedy noodles which is down the road is probably better, as they give bigger portions, more or less the same type of food, and prawn crackers at least. I at least thought, with such a big order of food, they would give us prawn crackers.
However the Vietnamese spring roll was good, as I guess best way to save on margins, is to make it yourself. and I could really taste it. Thank god, however but by frying it back in the old oil, it takes away that clean crunch. its a shame though. so close.
Overall its ok, there are just so many that who have raised their standards, and really emphasise on quality and freshness, that this restaurant is below par for me, especially when the cost is about the same. read more
