Looks like Mam has opened recently, but they are offering delivery through deliveroo…read more Home delivered pho on a cold and wet night sounded just what I needed. The chicken spring roll with wood ear mushrooms was lovely. The optional chicken with the papaya salad, made it it a very filling dish. The beef pho had delicate slices of beef and a very fragrant pho. The cinnamon was very soothing. I have varieties of bottles of chilli sauces and pastes at home, but you can order extra sauces from them if you like. The food is good and they deliver home which is a huge advantage in the current weather, but I felt the lack of herbs in the pho (just a few spring onions) I'm not sure if this is because it was a takeaway/delivery order and you get more seasonings if you eat in. Food was very well packed and I appreciate the broth being packed completely separately. It means you can reheat the soup if you don't eat immediately and not end up with a soggy glutinous mess.

Leaving aside the treacherous beef pho, the vegetarian pho I had was oddly bitter, filled with too many green onions and the mushrooms didn't taste fresh. What I found very strange is when the pho was served, I asked why it didn't come with the standard fresh herbs and bean sprouts. The staff explained that since the restaurant's focus is barbecue, the pho dishes are simpler - however at their sister restaurants they do serve pho with all the side herbs etc. I don't understand why serve an incomplete dish which you even agree you know how it should be served and then say it's because it's not this shop's focus? There is much better vietnamese food in the city - I wouldn't be quick to recommend Mam or be returning myself soon.

I ordered the spring rolls and I was so pleasantly surprised that they were served a little bit fried with lettuce to wrap them and Thai basil and fish sauce. They were so tender and hot. It was ridiculoussss. The staff is extremely attentive, and they certainly aim to please. They were very open to offering suggestions and gave us great advice when food was a little on the spicy side. My mom had the seafood pho, which she thoroughly enjoyed because it wasn't overly spicy, she said that the calamari was extremely tender and it's a huge portion. The prices in this place are actually extremely reasonable. I ordered the cold noodle... bun thit nong and the beef was extremely tender, flavors were perfect throughout, cucumber was a thicker cut, which was nice noodles were perfect, and I love that there was no bean sprouts to add as a filler to the dish. Everything was fresh and blended perfectly. I have eaten a lot of Vietnamese food around the world and this has been by far one of the best treats that I have experienced. With the level of service and care they provide, plus the exquisitely delicious food, you should probably book ahead and make sure you have a table reserved... this place is definitely going to blow your mind.

I had the noodles with beef for the main. It was truly something special. Served with flavourful brown sauce, roasted nuts, fresh herbs and greens with and bean sprouts. My wife had salted squid and fried rice. Though both rather pedestrian dishes by design, they were well done and excellent. I will definitely make this a regular place to visit.

We weren't informed of out of stocks until we ordered, I definitely think it's a fair expectation to know of shortages before we read the menu. In the end, we shared fried squid, Viet spring rolls, betal leaf-wrapped beef and summer rolls. The squid was very good, the spring rolls were bland, the beef was not served with the garnishes I've experienced in other restaurants (vermilcelli, mixed herbs, leaves and crushed nuts) but tasted ok. The summer rolls were as boring as they always are and all portions were small. Mains, we tried the shakin' beef, prawn and tofu curries, BBQ pork special, caramel pork belly and the pancake. The curries were clearly the same base with the prawns or tofu added for serving and nothing exciting at all. The BBQ pork was very dry and hadn't had enough marination time. The pancake was good large portion, stuffed with spring onions, onions, prawns and pork with lettuce and herbs in the side with a good dip on the side. We ordered Vietnamese iced coffees to finish and they took forever to come. Overall, service was friendly and well-meant but on the slow side and not all the food was at an acceptable level. Overall, I would say it's a mixed bag but if you order squid then pancake, you will do just fine!!
