My friend and I are frequent visitors of Cafe Mama Pho in Deptford but noticed this restaurant recently opened on the same street so we decided to give it a try! It's hard not to compare the two since there are only a few Vietnamese restaurants in the area. The inside of Eat Vietnam is spacious and can definitely seat more people than Mama Pho. The food was good but overall was not as authentic as I had hoped.
We got the Banh Cuon as a starter. While I liked how thin the rice wrapper was, the filling wasn't as flavourful as I had hoped. Usually the accompanying fish sauce would also with chopped garlic and chili in it but unfortunately this one didn't.
My go to pho is the Pho Bo Tai. I liked how big the portion was but I wished the broth was simmered longer for a deeper flavour. I also wished there was more than just one cut of beef in the pho. My friend liked the Bun Bo Hue but it wasn't spicy at all.
Overall, the food wasn't bad and it's nice to have a back up option for when Mama Pho is packed! read more
