Somewhere in Delaware that I actually got some good chinese food, it was quite a surprise actually. The fried rice was well made, the grains fluffy and firm. Not overcooked or undercooked leading to hard pieces or mushy rice. The char siu, while not the best I have had is a good additive to the rice, good flavor. The pork and snow peas was a winner. The char siu is thick and smokey with a firm bite to it. No fatty, gristly or hard pieces. The sauce was thin and fairly standard. The peas while soft with a crisp pod were average. Beef and string beans had average beef, but the beans were crisp and juicy. Over all the char siu was well made, the vegetables fresh and crisp, and the fried rice one of the better ones that I have had, at least in Delaware. Three stars, yet but I would hit it up to 3.5 if I could, not sure if it should hit 4 stars. Great for Delaware, but there are slim pickings in Delaware. read more

Does the job at $5.95 for lunch. Yes, you need to use the microwave (provided at no cost!) to heat up the food which is invariably cold. But hey, it's under six bucks for a big portion of decent food that's way better than Panda Express. read more

Ming Garden - a piece of bread in a plastic bag - Chinese Near Me - Newark, Delaware

This is not the same restaurant that people reviewed before last year. It used to be the best Chinese restaurant in the Newark area. Now it has different ownership/management and a totally different menu. There is even a different name on the menu. It still says Ming Garden on the outside, but the name on the menu says Xi Piang or something like that. I went by myself. First, they gave me a one-page menu with about 10 items on it, all for $9.99 from Fried Rice to Lo Mein. No soup or appetizers listed. So, ignore any other menu that is posted online. They no longer apply. Then the person brought out another menu and said some things were also written in Chinese. I don't know why they didn't bring that out with the other menu. There were only 2 soups listed, both for $9.99. They were variations of egg drop soup. When the waitperson came over, I asked if the soup was a whole meal and if you could get a smaller portion. She didn't seem to understand what I was asking but said "no smaller." I also got a roast pork lo mein. She brought that out first. I started on that and halfway thru, she brought out a big bowl of soup. I tried to take a sip of the soup but it was boiling hot. Then she brought out a small cup and spoon without saying anything. I finished the Lo Mein but the soup was still much too hot. The few sips I could manage told me that the soup was virtually tasteless, probably because it was nuked in a microwave. I left the full bowl of soup on the table with a $20 bill for the two $9.99 items. I won't be coming back there which is very unfortunate considering how good it used to be. read more

My experience with this restaurant was outstanding. At first glance, it looks like your run-of-the-mill Chinese restaurant, and in some respects it is. Most of the items on the menu are the typical American-Chinese fare, although there are a few gems under the heading "Hot Pot", including a number of (very large) Casserole-like dishes served in a ceramic pot. The dish I had (which was vegetarian, with noodles, tofu, and vegetables) was very good, and was the sort of thing that is not available at most Americanized Chinese restaurants. The rest of the food, standard American-Chinese food, is above average. The inside is a nice sit-down restaurant, nicer than one would expect from the outside. Service was very good. As the name suggests, this place serves alcohol; the selection is not terribly large, although the prices are cheaper than most bars. Bottom line--this place is very reasonably priced and has good food and a nice atmosphere. I would go back. read more

I went here for the first time since it changed hands. Will NEVER go back. The young woman at the desk did not understand or speak English. I repeated my simple order of beef with string beans combo with a pork egg roll about 4 times. Made it very clear that I am allergic to seafood. She called another woman over who insisted on charging an extra dollar for string beans instead of broccoli. Whatever. I told this woman also about my seafood allergy, to please make sure I got a pork egg roll. The broccoli was way overcooked. The sauce was bitter. Not just different than what I expected, but there was something definitely wrong that made it inedible. But what really upset me, is I bit into a shrimp egg roll. That is a real problem. This Chinese restaurant has consistently been my favorite for the past 10 years. This probably has a lot to do with the fact that my grandmother & I always eat in and have gotten to know the family that owns this place. The waitress is the mother of the family, her two sons have since moved on but used to help with the wait staff. It's never very busy, it's normally like 3 or 4 full tables. There are also booths available. Their won ton soup is a favorite. Their tea is amazing with a dash of sugar! Highly recommend sesame chicken. and Shrimp and Vegetables. For 3 people it's normally around $40 with tip. read more

Best Chinese food in the area. Clean restaurant. This is the only place I will eat Chinese food from. Never had any issues. Our favorite is the General Tso's chicken, which is chunks of white meat chicken unlike some other restaurants in the area that serve chewy,dark meat. MING GARDEN by Christiana hospital in NEWARK DE served me chicken that is PINK even though it isn't raw! I called restaurant and was told that was normal since I had it half of the day. (3 hours) Damn I just left the hospital and if I ate that I would have to return I'm sure. Is this CAT, RAT, or BAT? Give me the option to try EXOTIC meats by placing it on the menu. Buyer beware. I ordered the General's Chicken lunch combo. I prefer my chicken a little more on the crispier side and theirs was very mushy. The flavor was great and the portion size was perfect. The restaurant was very clean and the service was friendly. I would go back but definitely won't order the General's Chicken. read more

So I used to go here about once a month. It appears the restaurant has changed hands and the food is just.... Well... Not good. Something as simple as beef tasted like the Wok is was prepared in. The menu has some items that are authentic but I doubt they will do well in the neighborhood they are in. I have a feeling this place will be closed within 6 months. read more

This is the best authentic Chinese restaurant in town! The portion is big. The most delicious dish is slice beef in spicy sauce! Love it!

Terrible service and okay food. The place seems like its on its last leg. There is one lady who is always there and she seems like a witch stuck in a magical prison. There is no improvement being made and the menu seems pretty mediocre. No specials nothing like that. I only go here for a quick lunch. The food was good the first time I went there, but the portions are lacking for the price. Recently my Sesame Chicken has been covered in a batter that easily comes apart, and it actually tastes like it wasn't fried hot or long enough. In town for business, looking for decent Chinese food to take back to the hotel. Found Ming Garden on Yelp with decent reviews and decided to give it a try. Overall, good Americanized Chinese food. Had General Tso's Chicken, Hot and Sour Soup, Pork Fried Rice and Crab and Cream Cheese Fried Wontons. Nothing fancy, everything fairly straightforward, moderately priced. Was in the area and looking for Chinese. Visiting from out of town, turned on the GPS for Chinese and found this little hole in the wall (actually in a strip mall). I read a few reviews and nothing negative, so I decided to try it. Walking in - - the first thing I notice is how clean the place is. Not looking for pristine but a place that is taken care of. This place was clean (had dinner here around 8:30pm). The table and seats were clean, the condiments on the table was wiped down. Good start. I noticed several people working here and wondered if this place was family owned - which is nice. I ordered the Salt and Pepper Seafood and got the special that added hot & sour and an egg roll. The hot & sour was ok. The egg roll was good and the entree was great. Calamari, shrimp and scallops all lightly fried with hot peppers and onions sprinkled on top. With a side of rice, it was exactly what I was looking for. I'd definitely try this place again. The menu had a lot to offer and one of the places where you see several things you would like to order and having a hard time deciding which one to have. I went for lunch here Saturday with pretty low expectations and even those weren't met. I had the general Tso chicken. The portions were small for the price and the food did not taste particularly good. I went in expecting the same basic American Chinese food you can get anywhere because that is what I was craving.
