I kept trying to tell the ER doctors why is my underarm sore if you say it's my UTI. Wasted my time in the ER. I called Doctor Edward Lam the next day. Told him my pain and the lump under my armpit. He knew right away what I was talking about and it wasn't even UTI. It's like he knows the pain and symptoms without even going in the office to see him. OK, this clinic, while not entirely a negative, did by my involvement with them create a sticky…read moresituation for me. To say the least! First of all, it is the first time I had to weaponize doing a Yelp review to get adequate, not above and beyond, but just essential care from a clinic. Ever! It makes me wonder if I did the right thing or not. I had to examine my motives and discern whether they were selfish or I just did what needed to be done to have the end result justify the means. So I could close a loop that kept going around and around. I had done a negative review early on for this doc when he wasn't able to get me a referral (for 3 months). I thought that is what PCP's do. He phrased the referral he did send wrong asking for a totally different kind of practitioner than who he sent it to. When it came back declined; Dr. Lam buried it. He could have sent it back rephrased properly. But, no. They just shucked it. I needed that referral to work out desperately and when I learned I had nothing I lost it on the phone with his receptionist. A meltdown is a kind way to describe it. I do apologize to Dr. Lam's staff for that. They were as helpful as they could be. So, back to the first review then. He had read it and requested I not resort to that level unless I spoke to him first. I had already removed it at that time. It took the threat of doing another Yelp review yesterday to get his office to answer a simple but important question. So there! Doc himself called me then. At that time I told him I would not do another review but after much consideration I felt I had a right to tell my side of the story. So, to close the loop with the past and be able to move to higher ground I am doing this review after all. I want to be fair as well as pay it forward to others looking for a PCP that can help with referrals. I have moved on from this clinic and the reason why is because I did need a PCP who could give me referrals to "honest & dependable practitioners" since I am not knowledgeable about who would fit my needs best. I also wanted to feel safe and don't know how to screen who it is safe to go to in our medical field in Honolulu. Dr. Lam refused to do it that way. He had said I have to bring him the data for who I wanted the referral for. That requires many hours of work I don't have time for. Point in case, I did schedule recently with somebody new. It was a referral from an old clinic I had been with for a long time who were no longer seeing patients. They recommended a lady doctor but it didn't work out. Maybe because I had stumbled upon a sinister network of medical professionals in the recent past that had been and were spiritually predatory and had targeted me, personally. I thought because they had cleared Dr. Lam by making it difficult for me to move onto him, that not only was he safe but that he might be a "knight in shining armor" who could lead me to other "safe" healthcare providers. My lot is our lot. The predatory seek not one but many. We have to work together to protect our interests from wolves in sheep's clothing. Dr. Lam was not interested in my safety at all. He might be a good choice if you only need some basic things. I don't know him that well. I can only go by my experience with him. All in all; I am disappointed with him and wouldn't recommend this office. In response to Dr. Lam's nice list of his reasons for why he wasn't able to have results may I refer to an old saying I love. There are 2 things in life. Reasons and Results. Reasons don't count!

She is…read morevery personable and carefully listened to my concerns, reviewed my imaging, and asked appropriate questions. We proceeded with a PRP injection, which I learned that there was actual homework/prep work for me to do BEFORE the treatment that the hip MD didn't even tell me about! Such things like stopping NSAIDs, drinking, fasting, etc. to help make the PRP injection more successful. I would not have known this if it weren't for Dr. Ferrante. The injection went smoothly and I experienced significant pain relief. I will return to do the other hip now that I know how successful it is. I know PRP injections are expensive, but definitely worth the price (insurance doesn't pay for them thru a MD anyways). She made me feel comfortable (as comfortable as you can- these injections are sore) thru out the procedure, and increased my trust by providing me with a lot of information about what to expect before/during/after, and of course following up. Of note, when I came in for a hip follow up, she noticed I had a wrist brace on, and took initiative to inquire about this new injury and brainstormed a special taping to help offload/support the area (again, something that the orthopedic PA didn't think about) which also provided more stability/less pain for my wrist. She offered another treatment option for it if occupational therapy didn't help. I highly recommend Dr. Ferrante, she takes the time to listen, thinks outside the box, keeps you well-informed, and offers effective solutions to your health concerns.

I came in for a knee injury, and Dr. Jené Ferrante was incredibly thorough, knowledgeable, and genuinely caring. She took the time to really understand what was going on with my injury instead of rushing through the appointment or just treating symptoms. That alone made such a difference. I've already started to see improvement, which feels amazing, and I appreciate how she explained everything in a way that made me feel informed and empowered in my healing process. You can tell she truly cares about treating the whole person, not just the injury. The integrative approach they use really stands out, it feels modern but also supportive of your body's natural healing, which I personally value a lot. I highly recommend Hawaii Natural Medicine if you're looking for thoughtful, personalized care and real results.

I have come to the conclusion that if anyone calls you before a certain time in the morning…read more(usually before 8am), this usually means that there is bad news. Sure enough, at about 7:10am yesterday, I get an unusual call from my boss as I am about a few minutes away from work to let me know that there has been a positive COVID-19 case in our office. He does the routine contact tracing questions to figure out who may have been a close contact and fortunately for me, I was not, so I continued on my now less than merry way to the office. After a discussion with my work moms, we figured we might as well take a COVID-19 test anyway just to be safe. Someone had even suggested Nomi Health because it was free with insurance and apparently fast, so we went ahead and scheduled appointments for that same day. You can schedule an appointment at the following link: https://nomihealth.com/hawaii or look up "Nomi Health Hawaii" for the website. I must admit that the website is not the most user friendly, but once you access the website, click on the yellow button that says "Schedule a COVID-19 test" to start. There will be a list of available test sites available, so when you find one that works best for you, click on the "Select" button right under the location you want to take your test at. Next, a horizontal pop-up window will appear on the page with a calendar of dates and times available, select the date and time that you would like. Another option available in this section of the appointment scheduling is the option to pre-register as a walk-up (they even give you a time frame of when walk-ups are accepted usually 8am-5pm). You will then be asked you if you have tested with them before and if you are reading this review as we speak, my guess is that it will be your first time, so click "No." You will then be required to fill in your information such as email address, phone number, first and last name, etc. You will also be asked to include health insurance information and whether you consent to having your COVID-19 test. For those who have been to Nomi Health before, if you click "Yes," you will then be required to provide your Patient ID that was first given with a QR code at the time of your initial registration (the plus about this is that logging in with your Patient ID will auto-populate all of your info to save time). You will then be asked to include any symptoms you may have at the time of the questionnaire. The last part of the questionnaire will be a summary of the information you provided, the test location, and the date and time. Make sure the info is correct before submitting your appointment. Once your appointment has been submitted, you will receive two emails from Nomi Health: 1) Appointment Confirmation Details (including a QR code for easy check-in at your appointment) and 2) Profile QR Code. Make sure to keep both for your appointment and then just the second email after the fact in case you ever need to take another test with Nomi Health (since your information is tied to the Patient ID QR code). One of our work moms had an earlier appointment than us but she left about 30 minutes earlier to her appointment and about 15 minutes later texted us to hop on over since there were no lines, so my other work mom and I headed over. If this is your first time visiting Nomi Health at Ala Moana Center, it is literally a tent located in the parking garage directly across from Longs Drugs (second floor) towards the mauka or mountain side. There are plenty of parking spaces nearby and sure enough when we went around 10:30am or so, there was no one there except for two nurses. Entry to the testing site is from the left and there are lots of signs with information such as a registration QR code (for those that have yet to register and are looking to get tested) as well as information on out of pocket expenses for those with no insurance (fellow Yelper Shantell C. provided photos of those signs :D). Check-in was relatively easy, one of the nurses just asked us general questions, verified information, and also asked whether we were planning on traveling. Once that was done, we were then instructed to walk over to the other nurse on the side to get swabbed. Now, if you've ever taken a formal COVID-19 test especially at the height of the pandemic, these tests are as invasive as can be, so much so that I had to tell the work mom that was with me to continue swallowing, so that it would not be much trouble, but the nurse did like a fairy wand swipe to the point where I almost giggled because I was expecting my brains to be scrambled. Even my other work mom who has had similar tests in the past commented that it was not as bad as we had anticipated. Both of us could not have even taken more than 5-10 minutes together from the time we checked-in to the time we were done. Overall, I would highly recommend Nomi Health for any of your COVID-19 testing needs (they provide both Antigen and PCR tests).
