Mind and Body is such a hidden gem, I'm so happy I found it! I've been experiencing neck pain and "knots" in my shoulders for several days with no relief, so I decided to try a massage. I used Yelp to find a masseuse close to work and came across Mind and Body, only 1 block away. I texted (and emailed) as indicated on the website for a last-minute/same-day appointment for the 30 min neck and shoulder massage. They were able to squeeze me in this afternoon, and I already feel worlds better. My masseuse (who I believe was Jessica) was great, and was able to talk me through her plan of attack once I described my symptoms. After just 30 min, I feel significant relief in my neck and shoulders- she was very knowledgeable and professional, and did an amazing job. As for the office overall, it is a bit confusing to locate- once in the elevator, you need to press "M" (not 5) to get to the mezzanine level. As other reviews indicate, you are able to hear what's going on outside your room because the room walls do not reach the high ceilings, but this didn't bother me. My room was private, warm and cozy. I also liked that she didn't use a crazy amount of scented oil- sometimes I've left massages feeling like I need to shower. I was able to use my Student ID for a discount, and I did see that there were some specials offered on the Yelp page. I was also asked to pay cash (I believe their machine was down) but they told me this when I made my appointment so I had time to run to the ATM. It looks like most of what I have to say has been said but I'll reiterate. I've been here twice and have seen Victoria on both visits: once for an integrated Thai massage and once for Nuat Thai bodywork. No other massage can even compare to these - Victoria is caring, perceptive, and knowledgeable and put me at ease immediately on both visits. Plagued by lower-back pain every few months, both massages have done wonders for my back and the rest of my body. A few other things: they are extremely accommodating with online vouchers. No hassles whatsoever. Scheduling is a breeze (I was able to make both appointments during the week after work). A few other reviews mention the business being in an office - it's since moved to another part of the same building and it's a huge step up: dim, quiet, and a perfect atmosphere for a massage. I went to Mind and Body before my MCAT to help me relax and to work out some issues with my neck and upper back which were probably associated with months of slouching over my desk. Rebecca was great. Very chill and professional. Took one look at me and figured out exactly where I was having problems. Apparently, one leg is shorter than the other and one side of my back was compensating for that. She has great attention for detail and picks up on areas of tightness very quickly. The bed was comfortable and the room had a relaxing vibe. One thing I would suggest is to turn the heat up a bit. Overall, I had a very positive experience and would definitely return. read more

I had such an amazing experience here that I came home and immediately went online to review it. The booking process was as simple as it gets by booking online. You can also book by phone if you prefer. The building itself is easy to find but make sure you remember it is Suite M5 (M is the second floor) because the directory doesn't list Mind&Body and the security guards sent me to the wrong floor where it used to be located before the move last month. The suite is an intimate space and has two massage rooms and two floor areas for their Thai massages. Rebecca was able to transform a business suite into a relaxing oasis! Since it is a business building the A/C is pretty high but she counteracts this by providing heated beds. Rebecca (the owner) did my massage and was amazing! She was very welcoming and asked me where my problem areas were and seemed to focus on them while also giving attention to my whole body. She has impressively strong hands which I loved! She combines swedish, deep tissue, and pressure points. If you are looking for a soft swedish massage with light pressure I would probably look elsewhere. When I left all of my back and shoulder pain was gone! And to top off the amazing experience she also has an amazing student discount because she knows how broke college kids are these days! I've been to a handful of other spots in the city (Breathe SFS at the Loews, Knead Body Boutique, & Spa East to name a few) and none of their techniques compare. I had a profoundly relaxing and healing Thai massage by Rebecca. I have persistent lumbar pain and often feel aches in my hip flexors and side, as well. She really helped open these areas up with the gentle stretching moves that were held long enough to feel a change. The pressure she used was firm enough to feel a deep tissue effect but never too much. The pacing of the session, and the support and care with which she moved my limbs, was so restful and healing. I had my very first professional massage last week with Rebecca and I loved it! I'll probably start treating myself to more of these in the future. I really like how she offers a discount to students. It certainly helps broke college students like me be able to enjoy massages without breaking the bank. It's affordable and Rebecca does a nice job, was super professional, but also friendly, which I find important when it comes to good customer service. Booking an appointment online is probably the easiest way to schedule an appointment. It's an easy process and you will get email and text reminders as your appointment is approaching. Be sure to book at least one or two weeks in advance because Mind & Body's schedule is usually really full. The location is convenient -- close to City Hall. The massage room itself, however, can be pretty confusing to find. There are a bunch of offices in the building and I got lost trying to find Mind & Body. Luckily, I ran into someone who escorted me to the proper waiting area. I came to my appointment early and had to wait an additional 15 min from my appointment time. I was slightly aggravated about waiting for over 20 min, however, I understand that people run behind schedule sometimes, which is not too big of a deal. My only concern was that I wouldn't get my full hour's worth of the session, but surprisingly, I did! I checked my watch before the massage began and when it was over, exactly 60 min had passed. The massage room was very relaxing and it's nice that the massage bed was heated because I'm one of those people who are always cold. Rebecca's pressure was on-point and she did make sure to ask me if the pressure was okay. It was a deep enough of a massage where I didn't get too ticklish, but it wasn't to the point where she was going to break my bones. She did a fantastic job getting out the knots in my neck/shoulder area that accumulated from hunching over and studying during finals week. I did get really sore the next day, which I wasn't expecting, but after talking to some friends, apparently that's always supposed to happen after getting a massage? I went to Vermont to try and de-stress for a weekend and decided to get a massage. Based on some great Yelp reviews, I decided to go here. It was amazing. Rebecca is an extremely talented and knowledgable masseuse who knows exactly what she is doing. I got the regular massage and then the next day the Thai massage which incorporated stretching and resulted in increased mobility and relaxation. It's hard to find someone who you are comfortable with in a massage setting but I immediately felt at ease with Rebecca. I highly recommend her. As a college student, it is hard to care for your body and truly relax. During the course semester, I'm always running around with a heavy back pack and laptop and often pulling all-nighters. Rebecca was amazing. She does the best hip work and deep muscle massage. As a massage therapist myself I am very picky and she is one of the best. The location is really convenient and she was proffesional and friendly. I was shocked to see someone post a nasty review about her giving her one star siting the fact that she talked about topics that "were not my problem". Rebecca was super courteous and proffesional with me and although she did chat with me for a few minutes here and there to explain what she was doing she let me relax and I got a great deep-tissue massage. It is amazing to me how some people overlook the human aspect of small businesses like these and retreat to Yelp and Facebook to air their misgivings instead of TALKING TO THE PERSON WHO OWNS THE BUSINESS. Had a massage with Rebecca after finishing an intense work out regimen for over a month. I always hesitate to use Groupons for massages because typically the locations have less then stellar reviews, but when I saw the reviews for M&B I had to try it. I splurged on the Royal treatment massage which included a foot scrub. Overall, my massage was less about relaxing and more about releasing all the tightness from my muscles. Rebecca did a great job with that, a little sore today on my back, but I think that's to be expected after all the time she spent there working out the knots. My only complaint is that the room was a little cold, but I'm cold all the time, so I didn't say anything. I'm sure Rebecca would have made an adjustment if I asked. read more

The owner of the Mind&Body did my swedish massage. Normally I don't talk during the treatment, but we got so into talking about babies, life, and boys. She scanned my body and targeted my weaker part or where the muscles were intensive. She didn't just target all of the body which I highly score! I did the Nuat Thai massage with Porter through a Groupon, and it was incredible - I think it was worth the full price even without the discount. Porter had a very relaxing and comforting demeanor, and told me a little bit about herself and the modality before we started. It was probably the most intense massage I have ever had, in terms of spirituality, intimacy, and pressure. She uses all parts of her body and you are often twisted and rolled and pulled and stretched in every direction; there is a lot of bodily contact with the masseuse. Not for those who like light, swedish-style pressure, but for me it was perfect. The only con is the noise - when other people came in, I could hear them talking at the front desk, which was a little distracting. read more

If you like really deep massages with high intensity pressure this it the place to go. Porter did a really great job of using a combination of pressure point and stretching techniques to enhance the traditional massage experience. The stress of the work week was whisked away in no time. The new space lends itself to a much more relaxing experience however the walls to the rooms are not the full height so there are still noise issues. Two people came in to either reschedule their appointments or ask questions while I was getting my massage and each time Porter opted to step out to help them and then come back. She finally locked the door about halfway through. The reasonable prices and high quality massage will definitely keep me going back. read more

I am never one to complain at all, but after my experience at Mind & Body, I had to write a review. After reading reviews, I am so excited to have a massage, but I was greatly disappointed!! After having confusion, and mix up about scheduling, I finally got everything squared away, and was looking for my massage. I booked a massage for 4:00pm but was running late, and walked in at 4:04pm. While I understand that with services, tardiness is not appreciated, and sometimes that will cut into the service time, I expected this going in and knew this is most likely happen. That being said, when I got in, the owner, and my masseuse for the day, Rebecca made the experience more horrible than I could imagine. First, she handed me the intake form, and started rambling on about how she was so tired because she had been working since 10:00am, because "so many people had redeemed holiday gift cards" that day...I let it go in one ear and out the other. After finishing filling out the form, she gave me instructions that she would start me face UP and to get on the table. She did however proceed to tell me how the heated table could be 'too hot' because it had been on all day because of how busy she was. She left the room, and I disrobed and got onto the table. She never once asked me what I may be looking for, either relaxing or deep tissue, however I would soon learn what she was going to do. She started to work right away on my neck. As she was doing so though she was going on and on about how she was a single mom and that my appointment was going to make her late to pick up her 5 year old son... ummm not my problem? Then she proceeded to go on and on about how she had not had a day off in 2 weeks or on a Saturday for that matter and how she just wanted time off so she could get a massage and relax herself. Ummm, hello, please stop talking, I am wanting to relax!!! After grabbing at my neck, she asked me how the pressure was, and I told her it was a little too deep as I don't really like a lot of pressure...I like a little more on my shoulders since I am busty but very light touch everywhere else. Her comment back to me was: "I know how to read people, and I can tell what you want. It is always the type A personalities that need hard massages, but you seem cool." HUH??? She continued to work down my body, and I had to then tell her to ease up on pressure because it was way too hard. HELLO? Didn't I just say that I only like LIGHT touch?! After she winds down on the massage she tells me that she is going to give me a few minutes and allows me gather my things. She comes back after about 5 minutes and I give her my card to pay. Now I am all for going green and not wanting to print receipts, but she very curtly asked: "so did you want to add gratuity?" as she is swiping my card, because she did everything on her laptop and nothing was going to be signed for. Now I am totally ok with giving a tip and a good one if the service was warranted but come on!! How rude to assume! Not to mention, YOU OWN THIS ONE ROOM PLACE. ALL THE MONEY GOES TO YOU. WHY DO YOU NEED A TIP?!?! furthermore, isn't it tipping etiquette to NOT tip the owner?!?! I was shocked so I blurted out "15% is fine" for which she then tells me: "well I only know how to do 20% on this amount" ARE YOU SERIOUS?!?! I was so shocked that I couldn't even say anything even remotely smart back. I then ask her where the restroom was so I could use it before leaving. She tells me that I need to ask the lady at reception for the key. I come to find out that her one room establishment is a rented room on a floor where businesses are being run. I go out to reception and see no one, but I do see the key. I pick it up and start to walk down the one hallway. Still not seeing any restroom sign, I see a man at a desk so I politely ask him if I was going in the right direction, for which he snapped at me: "does it look like I know where the WOMEN'S bathroom is???" Talk about awkward??? I turn around and walk the other way and Rebecca who tells me she will walk me to it. When I am done, she is actually waiting in the hall for the elevator and I ask her where I should put the key for which she says shrugs and says "it's fine on the door, not my problem" I end up riding the elevator down with her and she starts going on about how she hates the lawyers who work on that floor and she doesn't like dealing with them. Ummmm ok? Not my fault you rent there? Words cannot even express how horrible my experience was from start to finish and I am shocked that so many people can give such high markings if this is how Rebecca normally does business.... I will NOT be back, and actually look forward to paying much more at a spa that has staff who know how to ask questions about massage type/pressure and that know to NOT talk during services. My masseuse was very friendly and the massage was pretty standard. I was thoroughly relaxed and for the lowered student discount I couldn't find a better deal in Center City. Most of the stress that I got rid of during the massage came back after there were issues with not being able to figure out what my credit card # was, then overcharging my credit card, and several calls later I was pretty much stressed out again. On the hunt for a go-to massage in my new neighborhood - disappointed I didn't know about the Yelp coupon here before I went! My masseuse was pleasant and paid close attention to my problem areas, which I appreciated. The walls were pretty thin so it was easy for me to hear people coming and going, which was a bit distracting. My masseuse also used plastic gloves during my massage, which always throws me off. Overall I'd say if you're looking for a quick massage, this place is great - but if you're in for 90 minutes, it's rather expensive and not as relaxing as I'd hoped. read more

I took my boyfriend here (March 2012) for his birthday and we got a couples massage and it was absolutely amazing. Not only were the massages great, but as soon as we walked in, the atmosphere was immediately relaxing and the customer service was great. Had an amazing massage here today. I loved being able to book online, and getting free reminder text messages. Check in was quick and easy and the massage itself was amazing...super relaxing, and got out tons of the knots and tension in my shoulder blades. Rebecca was courteous and very sweet. The setting was very calming, and she was good about checking in about pressure. One of my big pet peeves in massages is terrible new age music, and I'm happy to say that Rebecca's music was totally fine, and if I had remembered to bring my own CD of music (in my experience, most massage therapists are happy to let you bring your own music if you aren't into new age) I bet she would have been happy to let me put it on. I purchased an eversave and booked an appointment with Rebecca as soon as the holiday mad rush was over. Boy, was I glad I did! She's very personable, friendly and outgoing. I like the fact that her massage bed is heated. That was a definite plus because it was freezing cold outside and to be able to slip into a heated warm bed was like haven. ah. I could feel all my muscles started to relax almost immediately. The massage itself was fine. There was no "wow" moment for me, but it was relaxing and comfortable which is what I was after. I think she could have used a little more pressure but she could have held back because I'm 4 month pregnant. So she was probably being more careful which I appreciated as well. Price is comparable with other massage therapists in that area. She was also very gracious when I showed up late. I appreciated that she didn't cut the appointment short. I know that if there were someone there immediately after me, she wouldn't have been able to do so. All in all a good experience. :) read more

Had a 40 minute neck and shoulder massage with Rebecca. She's a very warm and friendly person, and I loved her heated massage table and the general relaxing atmosphere in the room. I personally prefer intense deep-tissue massages and felt that the massage, while relaxing and nice, wasn't as intense as I'd like. Love it here! You can book online or leave a message to set up an appointment with one of their massage therapists. They also send you a friendly reminder text to your phone which I thought was awesome. When I arrived here, the massage room is a bit tricky to find as it shares space with other offices but didn't bother me at all. I had Victoria and she was wonderful. She came out to greet me in the waiting area and was so welcoming. She has a great spirit to her and made you feel relaxed and at ease. The room where they do the massage is a hidden treasure and you almost forget where you are. Perfect place to get away and destress. Amazing massage. I have had my way around the massage world and know what is good and what is amazing. My experience here was exactly what I needed- amazing. It was a bit unconventional with the focus on pressure points and stretching initially, but as it neared the (halfway point I think) of my massage (I had booked a 90 min with a student discount) the techniques became more traditional. I enjoyed every minute of it and so did my tight, knotted muscles. The masseuse found knots I didn't even know I had, and made sure to get them out as best as possible. Yes, parts of that were painful but it was worth it. At the end I felt relaxed and rejuvenated. They also ended it with a bottled water and mints which is always a nice touch. As a student the discount makes it extremely affordable compared to other spas in the city. Definitely will come again. read more

I originally scheduled an Intuitive massage with Porter. I walked into this calming space hidden in a center city office building. Porter was very welcoming, she made me feel very comfortable. When I told her about the pain I was having she recommended the Nuat Thai massage instead. She was very knowledgeable and I immediately felt that I could trust her and she would help me work on my shoulder and neck pain. The massage was very intense with firm pressure, but it felt amazing. The reason I decided to book an appointment here is because of the great reviews on yelp as well as the student discounts offered on their website which made it very attractive. However, I was extremely disappointed with my visit. The environment and ambiance was great. Relaxing. BUT my massage was overall very disappointing. I left feeling the same exact way I came in. The masseur (Joe) did not apply any pressure even after I had asked him to. The whole time it was just him rubbing oil on my body. For $60, I could have done that myself for free. read more

I suffer from TMJ, and after a massage with her I feel much better (and relaxed) The place is no frills (its not a spa (no sauna/shower etc), it's more like a small office).
