I went to Mina's based on Yelp reviews - and thank God! I'm thrilled with their service. I live very far from their 6137 N. Clark location so it was a bit of a haul (from Berwyn) but more than worth it! I had just found out that you can still fix modern televisions and do not need to just throw out an ailing TV. For a $69 dollar, non-refundable fee, you can get your appliances reviewed and your problem diagnosed. This fee will be deducted from your final bill. Mina's is a family owned TV repair and video rental business. The store is unglamorous, but large and you will be greeted by Penny, the family dog when you walk in. My television was fixed effortlessly in two days! I got a call immediately - one day after dropping off the unit at their store. The price was right (approx. $275 to fix a major part of a 42" flat screen) and works better and is clearer than when I first purchased it. I am thrilled to know about Mina's and highly recommend them to everyone who thinks they need to toss out their electronics for newer models. Please check with them first. My 5 year old Samsung flat screen bit the dust. I knew I needed to find a place that could come to my home and take it off of the wall mount since I could not do that myself. I called Minas and they came out right away to do a diagnosis. It turned out that fixing it did not make sense, so I was able to apply some of the cost towards a new TV from them. They came to install the new tv at a time that was convenient for me. During installation I realized the size was wrong (my fault) and it was not going to work. The installer was very patient with me and gave me other options and let me keep the tv up until the new one was ready. He came back out to install the new tv and was again super patient with me as I had him make adjustments to the wall mount, location, etc. I don't think I would EVER get this kind of service from a big box store! I recently purchased two A/C units from Minas and I could not be happier with the experience. I dealt directly with Aram, who was very attentive and courteous. I have non-standard A/C sleeves and so not only did he take it upon himself to help research available options, he also gave me the best price out of all the dealers that I contacted (I contacted many, including big box stores). I also had Minas install the units; they were very respectful when entering my home, showing care not to dirty anything AND they arrived at the exact time they said they would come. I'll never go back, and you would do well to boycott the store for anything more than their cheap movies. I bought a large-screen plasma TV from Mena's with a promise of a $500 rebate, for which they would fill out the papers, so I just mailed them. Never got it, despite many calls and visits. "I dunno what happened." was all I got. "You have to talk to the company.," as if you could get help there! The TV failed to power up after 30 months, beyond the legally defensible short warranty of one year. In Illinois and almost all other states, any product must be "merchandisable," a vital protection for consumers that simply means that any product (TV, computer, car, furnace, washer or other appliance) must keep working for a "reasonable" time, which for TVs is generally at least four years. For a $3000 product, it may be mush longer and certainly should be. I sent certified letters to Mena's, which they answered by phone in nasty and hostile ways. The book, Super Threats, outlines attacks that may resolve the issue, but a lawyer could help. You should read it to understand "merchandisable." They chiseled me out of $500, the salesman dogged me intrusively in the showroom, and they behaved totally irresponsibly about repairing their product. I got my new TV at Sears, where the only hassle was dodging the almost always useless extended warranty. read more

I would never deal with these people. The service was lousy. I was supposed to have my TV back in two weeks. It is now two months later and NO TV. On top of that AFTER EXPLAINING WHAT WAS WRONG with my TV I was given a quote of $500 only to get a call the day my TV was supposed to be brought back ( TWO MONTHS LATE ) to tell me that my problem has not been resolved and that it would cost more money than it is worth to fix. NOW they expect me to pay them for a TV that was not fixed. Thing is after talking with them I went online and found the part that they say would cost me so much more money for $20. CAN YOU SAY THIEVES. If you want to get your TV fixed I would NOT GO HERE. As someone who has worked in home repair I do understand that sometimes complications happen and things may cost more. In this case though everything that was wrong with the TV was explained in full and was given my quote based on that. As I said unexpected things arise in repair BUT YOU WOULD THINK since it was supposed to be done in two weeks that I would have gotten a call about ANY ISSUE way before the day they are supposed to drop off the TV ( TWO MONTHS LATE ) and not the day of. So not is my TV STILL NOT READY but they were trying to push blame on me buy saying that I NEVER TOLD THEM. Which may have worked in there favor except on their own estimate form it says EXACTLY what the problem was and what was told to them buy us, mentioning the same exact problem they want to charge me again for. When I brought that up and showed this WAS NOT something new it was the reason we called them in the first place. I was told in response that "one of the partners made a mistake and really doesn't know what he is doing" ( WHAT?) So in other words they expect me to pay for their mistake, because they quoted me wrong. I was looking to "cut the chord" with cable tv and had read about these DIY home remedies for installing an antenna. So I called the store and spoke with Raffi, one of the owners and the store's TV installer. I was in need of a new flat panel TV, and I needed it mounted on my wall. Our large 60" rear projection wouldn't turn on and stay on - I had feeling we were having trouble with the cooling fan. I searched the internet for repair stores and reviews. Ultimately I chose Minas. Aram took my original phone call - took details and called the tech to see when he could do a house call. Aram called me back within 5mins and the tech was around within an hour. Boris got straight to the problem, ordered the part and told me he'd be back in 7-10days once the part arrived. We paid $89 for the visit which went towards the total job. Both were very pleasant in their manner, helpful, matter of fact and professional. What may have been a fiasco was a great experience. Boris called the next week and it took him 10mins to install the new fan. The cost was reasonable and our tv is working perfectly. I recommend them given my personal experience. Repair is a joke, took it in and they said they couldn't fix it and was told to sell it on Craigslist. I wondered why they said that as I was pretty sure it was the TCON board so I opened it up. It looks like they may have taken parts out of it as there were at least 7 screws missing and one screw on the TCON board was even stripped. There was a wire missing that powered the TCON board so even if I find a new one it won't work because they have it. Their response was the the TV was in the exact same way it came in to them. Raffi really does a great job, he's helped me twice in the last 15 months or so. About a month ago I needed to buy my parents a TV and he delivered it and set it up for a modest fee. Terrible service and follow up. They sent out a repair man to come take down our tv. He was unable to take it down and actually broke the mount on the wall. Our original installer had to come back and re-anchor it to the wall. I called the next day after the first guy couldn't take it down to tell the owner about the issue. He then pushed back the pick up till Friday because he was busy and was only free when my wife and I were at work. Needless to say we are taking our business else where. read more

Me and my Husband originally went to Minas to get our TV fixed.We had gotten it from a tenant at my husband's job.We figured since we got it for free it was worth fixing. A Minas employee came to our house to get the TV on Christmas Eve! They checked the TV and told us it was 7 years old and the problem was very bad.The part they needed to get was discontinued and would cost too much to fix and it wasnt really worth it.We had paid $89.00 for the diagnostic test (Which is a great price since Best Buy wants a 150.00!).They told us that If we would like we could buy a TV from them and the 89.00 would go towards that new TV! We went to the store that night and the employee was very helpful! Explained everything about the TVs,knew what they were talking about! We bought a 46 inch Sony Bravia for an excellent price and they threw in a FREE 2 yr. warranty! Would def. recommend Minas to everyone I know! Pleasure doing business with them! read more
