Our table was right by the ocean. We went at night so it was very dark. I could only imagine how beautiful the views are during the day. Our waitress was pretty patient. We arrived on Halloween where they were playing michael Jackson's thriller and families were laughing the night away. Our waitress name was sage who was very kind and honest about the menu. I ordered the wahoo island style which came with rice and veggies. It tasted exactly like chicken and was cooked deliciously. Our view was of the dark ocean night where you could hear the water lapping against the rocks. September 17, 2021 and four of us went for dinner. I called ahead to see if we could be seated at 5:45 PM. I was asked if I had a reservation. I said, "no do I need to make one?" I was told yes. I asked if I could make a reservation for four at 5:45 PM and was told yes. So I made a reservation for the four of us at 5:45 PM. Upon arrival we were promptly greeted and given a choice of seating locations as only two of the other tables were occupied. The view is wonderful!! The calamari and fried mushrooms were quite good. The snapper almadine was absolutely delicious. The snapper piccata was tasty. The snapper dijonnaise was wonderful. We all liked the preparations but the fish portions were all on the small size. As luck would have it, it started to rain just as we were finishing our dinners. Lucky for us it was a slow night and we were able to move under the roof area. While on vacation in St Thomas, I was recommended this place by one of the local drivers. Rule of thumb, make sure you make a reservation before coming to this place. If you don't you will have to wait at least an hour to be seated. Me and my best friend ended up learning this the hard way by not doing so. The wait time was indeed an hour but we didn't mind waiting. The bartender, Abby was a gem and she did a good job with providing us some good drinks. We had the calamari and stuffed mushrooms as starters. Our main entree was absolutely the high light of the night. We had the seafood pasta and it packed with loads of flavor. One of the great aspects about this place was the restaurant was right by the ocean. At night the cool breeze and waves while outside makes the whole experience worth wild. Overall, I would not go back to Mim's. The service was absolutely awful. It took 20 minutes just to get a server to take our drink order. After that, it took another 15 mins just to get the drinks. The whole place can't be more than 10-15 tables with multiple servers so I'm not sure why the service was so slow. The food was OK but not great and WAY over priced. The caprese salad was small and mediocre. The lobster curry had so little lobster in it AND it was $70. The curry flavor was good but we left spending over $100 and not even full. This was a very unusual experience. The food was not very good. We ordered the conch fritters, the seafood bisque, the curried lobster, and the shrimp and crab pasta in lobster cream sauce. The conch fritters were very good. Seafood chowder was okay, but base was a little grainy and seemed to be mostly seasoned with old bay. Lobster curry was not for us. It's a yellow curry, so more of an Indian flavor, plus coconut milk and sugar. We were hoping for more of a Thai curry taste. Drinks were the highlight. I had a strawberry shortcake and lime in the coconut, husband had rum punch. The total bill was $206 plus tip. I might have given it three stars based on food and ambiance were it not for the weird part. We had a 5:30 reservation, arrived promptly and were given a great table right on the water. The hostess and wait staff commented on the view. We placed our order and were enjoying our drinks and the appetizers, when the hostess came back to our table and very apologetically asked us to move! By this point, it was about 5:55 and all of the other waterfront tables were taken. The hostess said that when the owner arrived for the night, she was reminded that she had been asked to reserve this specific table for another party, so we had to pick up our food and drinks and move back to a non-waterfront table. We were so surprised that we agreed and they gave us each a free drink. I was eager to meet whoever the VIP was that bumped us, but no one ever showed up! Totally inappropriate. Best two meals I've had in a long time! I read a couple of bad reviews before visiting Mim's so I was a little worried. First, you can't beat the location. Gorgeous ocean views in an open air setting. Exactly how you picture your vacation dinners! I have been craving seafood since I'm on an island and Mim's did not disappoint. The first night at Mim's I ordered the Snapper Dijonnaise and hubby had the Grilled Mahi Mahi. Both were outstanding! Our last night on St. Thomas we reserved a table by the ocean and we ordered the Coconut Curry Lobster and the Surf and Turf. Very spendy but well worth it. The best meal I had on the island. That Coconut Curry Lobster is to die for. Our first server seemed new and wasn't as attentive as we needed her to be, but the server on our last night was amazing. The ladies at the reservation and check in desk were always sweet and very accommodating. If you come to St. Thomas and don't have dinner at Mim's you are missing out! The place was busy! Unfortunately, that made service very slow. We sat unattended for quite a while when we were first seated because our waitress said no one told here we were her table. I decided on this restaurant for my husband & I on our honeymoon on St. Thomas based solely on the review photos of the lobster dishes, as my husband LOVES lobster & wanted to try some while we were on the island. My husband chose the large stuffed lobster, which was served with garlic mashed potatoes & vegetables. It was definitely a pricier meal, at $90, but you can tell from the look on his face in my attached photo that he was SHOCKED at the size of the lobster placed in front of him. I am not a lobster person myself, but he loved it and literally ate every bite of it. I chose the grilled salmon fettucine alfredo & it was absolutely delicious! The portion of salmon was huge, & I had about half of my meal to take back to our Airbnb for leftovers! Hubby had a couple beers with his meal, & I have a frozen Strawberry Shortcake cocktail. While it seemed very light on any actual alcohol content, it tasted amazing! Definitely our priciest meal we had on our stay on the island, totaling $160 for the two of us, but it was well worth it! The ambiance of this place was amazing, being right on the water! We were seated inside, however it was very open to the water & the wind felt amazing. We could look right out over the rocks and water below us. The views from this place were absolutely breathtaking! Our waitress was fantastic, as she started off by suggesting some drinks, and then gave full descriptions of some of their top menu items. We did not have to wait at all to get into the restaurant or be seated, but we did make sure to come as soon as they opened at 5 p.m., so I am sure this had a lot to do with it. There was a little bit of a wait on our meals, but this was totally ok, as we were on "island time", & just spent our time soaking in the amazing views & enjoying each other's company. My husband order a medium portion of the coconut curry lobster, a baked potato and vegetables, he received a luke warm large portion, rice and vegetables. The lobster tasted good. I ordered the red snapper piccata, rice and vegetables and I received the red snapper, mashed potatoes and vegetables. My fish was cold and soggy and had no flavor and the mashed potatoes were also cold and didn't taste like potatoes. I couldn't eat the fish or the potatoes. We were there on a Sunday night. We had a reservation which was not really necessary. The restaurant was pretty empty. We could pick our table. We had a table with a nice view of the bay. Our server was friendly and attentive. The food was good (tuna steak and pasta fra diavolo). However, we wanted a bottle of red wine. We sequentially picked 3 different bottles and they were out of all of them. Instead they tried to sell us much more expensive bottles. We ended up ordering the house wine which was actually pretty good. We wanted a whole bottle, but they sell that wine only by the glass. Our waitress had a hard time understanding that. Lobster + coconut curry = Caribbean delicious and is what Mim's is known for! Don't worry about getting value for your buck, this lobster curry dish can easily feed two! You're going to want to finish this dish at the restaurant because honestly who takes home left over lobster and nukes it? It gets all rubbery and gross. You just don't do that so split this dish with your dinner partner or skip a few meals don't even try to eat that massive loaded baked potato and steamed veggies that it comes with. Mim's has it all, the best beachy waterfront dinning, smiley friendly service, no parking hassles (parking in Bolongo Bay lot), and the best lobster curry dish on St. Thomas. But service can be a tadbit slow and outside of the lobster curry I'm not a fan of much else. I didn't like their Mahi or snapper and couldn't get into their shrimp creole. This place can get pricey so continuing to find good dishes with that kind of money isn't going to happen. Their seasoned rice also isn't that good. BTW does anyone else notice that they do the same rice pyramids as Mafolie restaurant? So stick to the lobster and come early for dinner to watch the sunset with a nice drink. We enjoyed a lovely dinner here on our first night in St. Thomas! Mims is a seaside escape and has a balcony facing a beautiful bay. We booked around sunset so the lighting was gorgeous! We were celebrating our anniversary so we got a bottle of the bubbly which was awesome and fairly priced. They serve fresh, warm bread and butter which we enjoyed.. Upon the recommendation from our knowledgeable server, we both had the lobster (which is the thing to get at this place). My husband had the Coconut Curry Lobster and I had the Stuffed Baked Lobster (most medium-sized). We finished the evening with a Butterscotch Bread Pudding that was homemade and just delectable. It was honestly a huge disappointment eating here. The drinks weren't good but the food was what really broke my heart. We ordered the crab dip, it looked like canned tuna with cheese melted on top and didn't taste fresh at all. We also got the curried lobster and it just tasted like straight coconut milk. Crab legs were unavailable on a Friday night. We had a frog leg appetizer which I didn't try because it's not my jam. I was told it was good. At our table we ordered a Shrimp pasta, Snapper Picatta with fries and my dish baked lobster with baked potato. Shrimp pasta looked good however my friends mom just picked at it. I tried the Picatta sauce it was delicious if you are gonna get anything here this is it. I had the baked lobster with baked potato. I was excited because apparently they are known for it. It was overcooked, the bread crumb filling was quite lacking in flavor and contained no clams as listed. The drinks were good our table had Virgin sex on the beaches and espresso because coffee and khalua was unavailable. The service was just okay order was taken slowly and we had to grab the waitress off her cell phone to get the bill. By far the best restaurant we had on the island. It's tucked behind a older hotel. Casual attire, no need to dress up. We traveled with a big group of people. Made a reservation the day of & was able to get in. The staff was super friendly & accommodating. We had asked to switch to a table closer to the ocean & they did with no problem. I forget our two server names but they were great, made great suggestions. Between the table for appetizers we order the tuna tartare, Buffalo shrimp & calamari. Entrees, coconut curry lobster (life changing) crab & shrimp pasta, chicken Alfredo, surf & turf & mahi mahi. Nobody had any complaints. The food & service was delicious.
