Was excited to try this place and it lived up to the current reviews and expectations! The red pepper hummus was so good. Its smooth, great olive oil in it and the bread was super warm. The three of us shared the lunch-sized red pepper hummus and Çoban salad before moving on to a full portion of the chicken shish kebab (served with rice and a crisp green salad). Everything tasted exceptionally fresh and thoughtfully balanced--nothing overly seasoned or weighed down with oil. Just tender, perfectly cooked chicken, vibrant hummus, warm pita triangles that disappeared faster than we care to admit, and bright, refreshing greens. We paired lunch with a rosé (as one should), and just when we thought things couldn't get better, the owner stopped by and treated us to a delightful surprise: a Turkish coffee-inspired shot. Imagine an espresso martini's sophisticated cousin--silky, slightly sweet, topped with creamy foam and what I'm fairly certain was a sprinkle of pistachio magic. Dangerous, in the best way. Was looking for a cute date night place last minute and happened upon this cute restaurant. I am personally not the most experienced in Mediterranean cuisine, but wanted to try and expand into something I eat very little of. Walking in, I found the decor to be really charming with beautiful murals on the walls, a youthful, yet elegant decoration style, and many tasteful choices that kept the place dark but still well lit enough to see the menus and the food. The drink menu with the cocktail art was particularly cute at the table and complimented the overall esthetic nicely. Our server was very kind and helpful; as mentioned previously I have very little experience with Mediterranean food so she helped me to pick the entree and explained the dish very well. The food was incredibly well plated and really tasty, bringing lots of different flavors in each dish. We started with the Red Pepper Hummus, followed by the Beef Borek, which were both very yummy and light. For the main course, I ordered the Beyti Sarma per our waitress' recommendation, and was blown away. Not only was the presentation beautiful, but the taste was incredible as well. I do not get to eat lamb as much as I'd like to, but the overall mix of spices, sauces, and the lavish wrap were immaculate! This was a lot of fun and, while a little expensive, not so much as to break the bank. I would definitely come back to try some of their other dishes, but if you are downtown and looking for a nice little getaway from the overall chaos, I highly recommend making a stop here! read more

We found this place on Yelp since that's all I do is yelp. :).. We figured we try it out. The place had plenty of inside seating and it wasn't that busy so the hostess sat us down right away. Our waitress Melissa greeted us right away and asked if we needed any water which we asked for some tap water. We then ordered some drinks a berry something and glasses of red wine (Malbec, Pinot). Both wines tasted lovely and the berry drink was very tasty and refreshing. We didn't order any apps and our entrees were the Doner wrap, Adana Kebab, and the Grilled Kofte. All of the dishes were cooked great, nice flavor on all of the meats, the rice cooked prefect, and the sauces that went with the dishes were a good condiment for them. The salads that came with the dish was really good, and a good dressing went with it. The owner Debbie (the actual name is spelled differently) but she goes by Debbie came by to check on us and see if we needed anything. She was very nice, nice meeting her. For dessert we ordered the Havuc Baklava. This was the best Baklava that I've ever had. It was light and flaky crust, not to much sweetness dripping over the dish so that was good. The pistachios give it a different taste which is good. The overall ambience of the place was very refreshing. The also had some good halloween decorations up. I went to Mimozza hoping for a fresh, healthy meal and was genuinely pleased to support a women-owned business. Unfortunately, that goodwill didn't last long. I ordered a mixed appetizer plate and ended up having an allergic reaction to one of the items. Within moments, I felt a sharp, stabbing sensation on my tongue, followed by the unsettling feeling that it was starting to swell. I've never experienced anything like that before--it was alarming and frankly upsetting. My server did try to make sure I was okay, but seemed completely powerless to do anything beyond checking in. I was offered a lentil soup, but told I'd have to pay for it--which felt like a strange response given the situation. The manager did come by, and later checked back again to see if I was okay, but the interaction did little to improve an already upsetting experience. Instead of genuine concern, I was met with a lecture about not disclosing food allergies. If I had known the dish would trigger a reaction, I obviously wouldn't have ordered it. Being admonished while dealing with a physical reaction felt not only tone-deaf, but deeply unprofessional. Hospitality is about care, especially when something goes wrong. Here, the response felt more focused on assigning blame than on customer well-being. A very disappointing experience all around--and one that could have been handled with far more grace. read more

What a pleasant surprise! I'm generally wary of the downtown restaurants... I find them to be overpriced, low quality, and all about "vibes". But this restaurant is actually really good. We came with a large party before a show at the Civic theater. We were seated at a beautiful table in the center of the restaurant with very comfortable chairs. Our server was prompt and helpful. We started out with drinks and a couple of appetizers off of the happy hour menu. I had the Borek, which are Turkish cheese rolls. They were light and delicious and came with a nice tzatziki sauce. I ended up getting a glass of wine not on the happy hour menu because it sounded delicious. The owner came out and offered me a taste a sample of anything I'd like and I'm glad she did, because otherwise I might've gone from more of a familiar selection. Highly recommend the Tokat if you like white wine! There was a wide range of entrées on the table for dinner. Some of my friends got Gyro plates and Doner kebabs and were very happy. I went for the Bronzino and it was very well well-made. Huge whole fish and the skin was wonderfully crispy. Came with a very nice light side salad. Prices for everything were reasonable, didn't seem to carry the inflated downtown surcharge that everything else has. I would definitely come back to this restaurant again. read more

Just celebrated my friends birthday at Mimoza. They food and cocktails were delicious and the service was beyond expectations. Our waitress was so friendly and attentive. We shared a mixed appetizer plate with lots of dips and pita and we had a mixed meat plate for main course. Everything was tasty. Oh and then the milk pudding and baklava.... My belly is so happy. It was delicious. They put a candle in the dessert for our birthday girl. Parking was convenient across the street at Horton Plaxa and the restaurant validated our parking pass. The space is gorgeous inside, with a mix of booths and plenty of tables, and it wasn't busy, only a few other tables were occupied. On their website, they advertise a free appetizer for subscribing to the newsletter. Even though I never got the email, they still honored it, which I really appreciated. I went with the lebni hummus, which was phenomenal. For my meal, I had the chicken wrap with a side salad, fresh and delicious. I also tried the pistachio espresso martini, something I'd never seen before, and it was such a fun and unique drink. My server, Emily, was wonderful. She checked in often, made great recommendations, and even accommodated me since it was hot outside and I had my two dogs with me. When asked to describe an appetizer, she said "so, what do you want to know about it?" 2. When we had finished eating, she comes over and says, "do you want to pay or have dessert?" My husband and I were looking for a restaurant near the Balboa Theater downtown. One of the closest ones that came up was Mimoza. I had never heard about it before, but apparently it has been around for at least two years based on the dates of Yelp reviews. We arrived on a Tuesday around 7PM without a reservation. I would say that there were just a few tables of patrons at that time. The atmosphere was casual upscale, with a tasteful interior. That said, we chose to eat on the small outdoor patio. At the time, most of the customers were eating outside. I knew that Mimoza served mediterranean food, but looking at the menu, I found that it is a mostly Turkish restaurant. I was excited to see various varieties of borek (stuffed phyllo) and raki (Turkish licorice liquor) on the menu. Having traveled to Turkey a couple of times, these were some of the items that I have never been able to find outside of Turkey. Anyway, my husband and I shared the spinach and cheese borek. The helping was large, and it was delicious with a perfect texture. I think I could eat it every day. For entrees, my husband ordered the chicken kebab plate with fries and salad. I ordered the Mimoza Salad (house salad that comes with chicken). I know a house salad doesn't sound very interesting, but the flavors were delicious and the chicken was tender and perfectly cooked. The salad was anything but boring. I ordered a drink called Summer Rose. It was a tequila drink with fruit flavors and raki. The combination was perfect. My husband ordered the Mojito Mistral, which was a blackberry mojito with raki, which also worked really well. Service began slightly slow in the beginning, but we were given an apology for the wait, and then it was on point from that moment forward. I wondered about the name Mimoza and saw that they do a variety of mimosas. I noticed a customer near us tasking a mimosa flight. All in all, we had a wonderful meal at Mimoza. She'll curate the best drink for you and has great menu recommendations. Probably the most charming and professional person I've ever met. Girl can run a restaurant! The place is very bright and open which sits on the corner with huge windows. I like the decor and classy yet casual feel. I ordered a peach mimosa which was happy hour prices and it was so good. The peach flavor was on point. We ordered calamari and cilantro and jalapeño hummus dip. We liked both of the dishes but did think that a little more seasoning on the calamari would have made them perfect. A little would have went a long way with the dip as well. However, I typically associate Mediterranean cuisine as a more healthy focused eating. All and all they were still good and I would order again. For our main, we both got the chicken wrap which was really good. I got a little sauce to add to it with made it perfect.
