Mimi's has always been a family favorite. Now that the kids are grown, visits allow for a better review of choices. This visit was to meet up with an old friend and we actually struggled with our choices because we wanted several items. Needless to say we have a reason to return. Hostess seated us promptly on our arrival. Haley came shortly after and brought us waters and menus after a warm greeting. Hubs ordered 3 chorizo tacos and I ordered the Quiche Lorraine and a small side salad with blue cheese. We were so hungry after our workouts so sorry, no pictures of our meals, lol Our food was delicious! We did however take advantage of their current offer of buying 4 muffins, following them on Instagram, and receive 4 free muffins. Yes, there are pictures of those! We were brave and ventured out for brunch on Mother's Day weekend and were lucky to get reservations at Mimi's Cafe. We were sitted 30 minutes after our reservation time. We were understanding as it was very busy for the special holiday, but the problem was we were sat outside in a very crowded room that had no room for chairs and so loud. Our waitress had so many tables, but she was the sparkle that made the experience better. She very quickly brought drinks and our food was overall tasty. We survived but probably will not repeat the experience of dining out here on Mother's Day. read more

Everything was delicious with my roast turkey dinner, it was fresh carved turkey breast with stuffing, cranberry sauce and my choice of two sides, I picked baked potato with butter sour cream and chives and green beans. Also splurged on an order of their carrot raisin madelines which are basically delicious muffin tops. The food was less than $20 as of fall 2025 which is a pretty good deal. For a few dollars more, I could have made it a 3 course meal with soup or salad and choice of dessert but I wasn't that hungry. I used to love Mimi's Cafe as a child. I'd always get their chicken tenders and corn chowder. Things hit different as an adult. The location I grew up with closed years ago, and others are closing too. I now understand why. Coming back here as an adult, I noticed there are two demographics that come here: kids and the elderly. The corn chowder is still great, let's get that clear, but the chicken tenders tasted frozen, bland, and there were way too many of them. We had family in from out of town staying in the area. My job was to find a restaurant where our group, which included seniors, could talk and enjoy a meal. Mimi's seemed the most likely to meet our needs. Also, I had fond memories of spending time with my mother at Mimi's in Santee. There were very few patrons when we arrived. Initially I regretted the choice as we were ignored by staff upon arrival. Finally a cheerfully adorable man with a unique mustache greeted us and ushered us to a large table. I asked to be placed in a quiet area but we ended up somewhat in the center of the room at an oversized table. Since there weren't many people I didn't ask to move us to a table where we could move a table over. This was a mistake as the table didn't work for seniors, especially as the room filled along with the noise level. In general, it's a moderate to pricey restaurant. Very little is offered for those on a fixed income. Having said that, everyone was able to find something to eat. I had the French opinion soup which I enjoyed. Everyone else seemed reasonably satisfied with their meals. This experience left me feeling like Mimi's charm has disappeared as it becomes more like an old time diner. Overall, it was ok but I don't know that it will be at the top of my list in the future. read more

This is a convenient location, near a large intersection in Mission Valley. The last time I came here was years ago and tried it again recently. Upon arrival, were greeted and sat right away, drink service was quick and throughout the whole meal, interacted with about 3 different employees. Even the carrot raisin Madeline's since I don't usually like carrots nor raisins baked in things much, but this was more like a bread served warm and with butter. As a huge lover of bread pudding, it was delicious! served warm with a whiskey sauce over it and whipped cream. Again, it had raisins but was able to avoid most of them. The prices definitely went up and the price of something like a sandwich was around $18 which was a little surprising, but then again everything is going up these days. Our experience at Mimi's Café this Mother's Day was, in a word, disgraceful. What should have been a joyful celebration turned into a frustrating two-hour ordeal marked by disorganization, mismanagement, and outright disrespect. The host, Lindsay, handled the crowd with zero professionalism--giving wildly inconsistent wait times (ranging from 45 minutes to over an hour) and visibly panicking about OpenTable continuing to accept reservations. I personally overheard her admitting that people were walking up and making same-day reservations to bypass the waitlist, while those of us who arrived honestly and early were pushed further back. Completely unacceptable. The host is supposed to be the face of the restaurant, the one who sets the mood for the guests. This was quite an unpleasant face to put it lightly. We were quoted a one-hour wait. We ended up waiting nearly two hours. Each time we checked in, we were brushed off with the same excuse: "I have multiple reservations to seat first." Lindsay even claimed some guests had reserved "months in advance," which frankly feels dishonest. On Mother's Day morning, people were clearly gaming the system on the spot through OpenTable, and the staff let it happen. The manager on duty (a blonde woman whose name we were not given) was equally disappointing. Unkempt, wearing a visibly stained shirt, she rushed between tasks with a condescending tone and no regard for the customer experience. She was hasty, dismissive, and completely unaccommodating--not remotely what you'd expect from someone in a leadership position during a peak holiday. The entire team appeared unprepared, visibly irritated, and lacking any sense of urgency or customer care. Not once did we feel welcomed, reassured, or treated with courtesy. When we finally decided to leave--after wasting two hours of our morning--they called our name as we were walking out. When we informed them that we had to go, both the manager and Lindsay snickered and said, "Alright, whatever." That moment solidified the experience as one of the worst dining encounters I've ever had. This is not a five-star restaurant that people book 'months in advance' for. It's a casual brunch spot that failed miserably at executing even the basics. The lack of professionalism, integrity, and hospitality from this establishment is astonishing. They ruined our Mother's Day breakfast, and I will never return. Avoid this place, especially on a holiday. It's not worth your time, energy, or money. read more

I also had beans with that A portion made for a child. The plate was $18. The Salmon plate had more veggies than salmon $21.
