My family and I were passing though Wautoma around dinner time and wanted something to go that wasn't the usual fast food chain restaurants. Milty Wilty Drive-In is on the way out of town heading east, so we stopped there and placed an order to go. One kid got two hot dogs, the other got chicken strips and regular fries, my wife got a plain cheeseburger and regular fries, and I got a plain double cheeseburger with seasoned curly fries. She and I also split a grilled cheese. The regular fries have absolutely no salt or seasoning on them. Even with being straight out of the fryer they weren't the most crispy, so being bland too was very disappointing. The curly fries were preseasoned, so that couldn't be screwed up, yet I could oddly taste a hint of onion rings from them being fried in the same oil. Like the fries, the burgers were completely unseasoned. The double cheeseburger was maybe slightly bigger than a double cheeseburger from McDonald's, so I don't think it was worth the extra cost when size is similar and taste isn't as good. The grilled cheese had enough cheese to cover a single layer inside the sandwich with no thickness to it. It was better than the burgers, but that's not saying much. The kid with the hot dogs said they were "fine" and the kid with the chicken strips said they were "ok", neither of which are ringing endorsements. There were only two chicken strips in the basket and not a ton of fries. Maybe for a elementary school kid this would be enough, but for a 12 year old boy it wasn't. read more

The service was great. The gals at the window did a phenomenal job. It was a quaint refurbished Drive-In. My husband enjoyed his onion rings. I had a typical corn dog. The food is where it fell short. It would be a good place to stop for ice cream because we liked the Ambiance. Good toys for toddlers to play on which helped in entertaining our two year old granddaughter. We probably won't be back unfortunately. read more

My higher score is based on how cool and nostalgic this place is. Go for the experience, not so much the food. I am so happy this place still operates after 70+ years! Although it was my first time visiting, I gather that not much has changed during those years. ;) We were happy to try some Twig's Soda in bottles. I had Caramel Apple and my hubby had Black Cherry. They were both cold and delicious, and locally made. I tried a Hot Beef sandwich which featured tender shredded beef topped with onion and melted cheese. Not bad, but not my favorite either. My hubby had a simple cheeseburger and was not overly impressed. Guess we missed the mark on ordering the best sandwiches here. We both tried small twist cones. At first lick I was like, WOW this is so rich!! It's maybe THE richest soft-serve I've ever tasted. And a small was all I could handle because it was so rich! Delicious. read more

I've been driving past the Milty-Wilty for years when on my way from hither to yon. Usually, I hit Wautoma at odd times when either Milty-Wilty is closed or stopping there just isn't called for. Today, the time was right and so was the appetite! Finally! This is an old-school drive-in and diner. Under the fabulous neon signage are two walk-up service windows with an old-school, giant ice cream cone in the display window. The service windows each have a laminated menu with a myriad of choices. While you're waiting for your order, check out the museum, in the north display window, of past Milty-Wilty equipment. You'll see Hamilton-Beach malt mixers and a dispenser, and a Carnation malt tin. On the floor is an old-style root beer barrel tapper with an antique cash register on top of it. You might opt to step to the inside dining room. There is a self-service counter, not unlike the outside windows. Once your order is placed, enjoy the '50s decor and memorabilia, with black and white checkerboard ceramic wall tiles (and floor tiles, too!) along with bright colors, a porcelain ceiling, old 45s, chrome-and-vinyl dinette tables. Don't let the decor fool you, the food is great, too and the prices are more than reasonable, too. It's south of Wautoma, on the west side of the highway, just north of the 73-21 split. Whether you're on your way up north, or on your way home, or you live in the Wautoma area, drop into Milty-Wilty and see what I mean. You could also play some miniature golf or hit a bucket of balls on the driving range. Tips: there is a canopy area with pull up menus but there doesn't appear to be car hop service. Drove by here for 18 years, finally stopped. Had the Philly steak, it was tender shredded beef with canned mushrooms and barely cooked onions. It was ok. The beef was really good. Would have preferred a roasted roll and sautéed mushrooms and onions. Hubby had the California burger.. warning, they use miracle whip instead of mayo. The kid had the milty burger and loved it, but was wondering why they do relish and pickles. Tried the curly fries and cheese curds, large portions. Two of us had small turtle sundae and the other had a small chocolate malt. The malt was very chocolately and creamy smooth. The turtle had the right amount of toppings. Great Surprise We had gone to see attraction near here on the way back grandson, great grandson and I stopped and so happy we did. I had the best sloppy joes I had in years, burgers, fries, onion rings all great, even took chicago hot dog home for later. fun things for kids while you wait and the wait was so worth it. A lot of fond memories of my child hood and adult hood going with my Dad I will treasure forever who is no longer here. I took my boys and now have now introduced my grandson to Milty-Wilty's. Note: They are cash or check only! This is a small town Wisconsin classic. It's got a 50s diner theme with the old drive in still attached. It seems to be a destination spot for everyone going through the area and locals alike. They have great custard with lots of topping options. Their custard is a little rich for my taste, so their shakes are my go to. The portions are huge so either order small or plan on left overs. The service is a little slow, but very friendly. They have a mini golf course in the back. I have not tried they food but their menu has a large variety of American food at reasonable prices. There is seating indoors and outdoors, although the drive in is not functioning. If you are in the area this is a must! read more

This place has been around for years. It's a 50s style, drive in diner with all the bad for you food and ice cream you would expect. We have always come here on our summer vacations for the custard ice cream. This year we went for our cone pilgrimage and weren't disappointed. Soft serve, creamy custard ice cream that is one of the best. The food...well, it wasn't great. We ordered nachos, got home and found a box of plain chips and a cup of cheese. -Pretty bad. Come for the ice cream...after you eat at home. I wanted to give it a 5 for the memories, but to be fair, they need to work on their food. I just happened to spot this place driving through to take my kids to summer camp nearby. I only got a pizza burger and some fried mushrooms along with a root beer float. First things first, the food was amazing! I'm a sucker for pizza burgers. I grew up in ND and it's hard to find them. That was the main reason this place got 4 stars. Now on the flip side. Took forever at the order window for someone to help us. I actually had to ask (not once, but twice) if I could order. Basically was ignored. Not cool. My mom said I "just had to try Milty-Wilty", so we stopped at the little drive-in. I got a PB sundae, but the food menu sounded good, like greasy bar food. The PB sundae was chocolate custard with PB candies on it, not exciting, but the custard was good. It wasn't good so much the flavor as the texture. It's so hard to explain. It was like eating frozen whipped cream. The texture of the custard was so unique and good, but the flavor was kind of bland. I would eat it if offered, but I would not seek it out again. read more

I've been going to Milty for a long long time. Besides having a great name, they have great burgers and a fun 1950's atmosphere.

We went inside, staff in dirty aprons, dirty everywhere, smell unpleasant. We left without shopping. Never ever!

I'm 64 now and the first time I went to Milty's was back in 1964. It was great then and now I go there on Thursday night's with my 1946 Plymouth Coupe and enjoy the ohter cars and the great food. I hope it will be around for years to come. read more
