Greg and Willie are so gracious and welcoming and they make you feel right at home. The grounds are stunning and the interior brings in the perfect lodge vibe. They're both full of wonderful stories (should you wish to find out) and Willie is the most amazing chef. Together they make MML the most wonderful and delightful experience.

If you are looking for a real Vermont experience, The Moose Meadow Lodge is a great start to the journey. This beautiful home with cabin vibes has brilliant decor and character throughout the property. The amenities are far beyond what you'll find listed, thanks to the selfless owners, Greg and Willie. At the very least, you'll have a very comfortable stay. Greg and Willie will go above and beyond to make sure your overall visit to Vermont is worthwhile. We decided to travel to Vermont last minute for New Year's Eve. We booked the Moose Meadow Lodge on the drive up. We were welcomed with open arms. Greg showed us around the property, the lobby shop, brought us to our room and explained all the unique and exciting details of the house and property. We woke up each morning to a beautifully prepared breakfast. Since our trip was so last minute, we didn't have much of a plan. Greg was kind enough to sit down with us and help us map out our entire journey. He even helped us map an alternate route home that was more scenic. We didn't get to everything on the list, but everything he mentioned was perfect. You can tell he has a genuine love and passion for what he does. His advice and planning alone made the experience excellent. I can go on and on about the perfect stay we had. You can tell Greg and Willie are very passionate about what they do. You will never experience this kind of attention and care at a hotel. We are already planning our next stay here.

Just minutes off the highway, conveniently located. The Woods Lodge offers plenty of comfortable seating options to enjoy the deck, indoor dining area or outdoors. Nestled in the grounds of the lovely retreat, Gather offers a small but well refined menu. Located outdoors, lawn-side candlelit tables ring 2 fire pits. These have comfy chairs for enjoying a pre-dinner cocktail. The atmosphere is classy and casual with friendly hosts and severs who take time to answer menu questions and be sure you have what you would like. With a full bar, vast wine and beer list featuring local selections, and a variety of non-alcoholic beverage options, there is something for everyone. Our meal began with a flavor packed broth soup, featuring lemon, parsley, chicken and rice. The hearty portion was perfect for 3 to share. Next came the salads: baby greens with pickled onions and homemade vinaigrette, and rubbed kale with cranberries and nuts. Delicious! The swordfish main is crafted with an amazing balance of sweet blueberry sauce and a touch of cayenne to make the flavors pop. The chicken dish featured a tasty glaze and features grilled lemon, a surprise twist. Both mains were served with a veggie side and atop smashed potatoes- creamy and flavorful, and with lots of texture. Dinner was capped by the featured dessert, blueberry lemon panna cotta. So smooth, creamy, and heavenly! Just the right amount of citrusy syrup to complement the richness. Gather features fresh and local ingredients. This family owned and run restaurant is one of many endeavors Lisa and Jonathan Burr have successfully fully created. You will not be disappointed with your Gather dining experience!

We arrived just in time to catch the sunset from the patio as well as some deers. We stayed in the Mountain View Queen that even though the bathroom is not inside the room itself, we still had a private bath right next door. With only one other room on that floor, we rarely ran into the other guests, until breakfast. Breakfast started with a yogurt parfait, followed by French Toast and bacon with delicious local Morse Farm syrup that I loved so much, I went to pick up some to bring home. After just one night, I already felt at home that before leaving, I checked out the other two options and fell in love with the Mountain View King for next time.

The owner apologized a few hours before our arrival for some boxes that were on the outside porch due to renovations. This did not begin to prepare us for the state of the home. Stuff was all over the hallways, our room was incredibly dusty, windows were filthy, and there were ladybugs all over. The owner tried telling us they are all over VT inns at this time of year. This is simply not the case. To pay $442 for one night was highway robbery. If we could have found another place to stay on short notice, we would have. There wasn't even a key to lock our room. We left as soon as possible before breakfast.

Yet, the whole reason to write a review is to give others a recommendation or a warning BEFORE they visit. There are things the innkeepers cannot control- the rough surroundings, the noise of traffic and barking dogs, etc. (we had it all) But, once you cross the threshold, that's on the innkeeper. The potential to make Maplecroft a little oasis in a run down area of Barre VT is there. But you can't host on potential. Here is why it doesn't hit the mark: the building is just so neglected and our room was filthy. The housekeeper needs a solid talking to. The filth in our room is not just that someone forgot to vacuum. It's stained carpets and soiled area rugs and caked on dirt and pubic hair and filth on chair rails in the bathroom area. The shower: hair on the walls and a horrible smell. On and on. The bed was comfortable but I was so preoccupied with the filth that I kept wondering when the last time was that someone had washed the blankets. They were faded and had an off smell. The towels were stained and dingy. Peeling paint, open walls with rot in the hallway, thick dust covered ceiling fan, dust covered almost everything. Ouf. All this for 200$/night. We were just so disappointed. This was an anniversary get away and we couldn't wait to get away... from the Elia Corti room at Maplecroft. We have stayed in many many MANY B&Bs over the years on remote islands to bustling tourist zones. We expect old inns to have doors that aren't plumb and funky floor plans. All part of the fun. But the caked on dirt and general filth was a big turn off. Our clothing carried that smell all the way to home. On the plus side: all of this is fixable with a basic carpet shampooer and bucket of hot soapy water and scrub brushes. Replace the towels and wash the windows. Low cost but high impact. Then get some repair work going on the crumbling walls that are cracked open and exposing rot. Your guests shouldn't be exposed to these things. Lots of neglected little things make for one BIG thing- a negative experience. We will not be returning.
