This is a great little restaurant off the beaten path.  I have heard of it for years but last night…read morewas my first experience.  The catfish and hushpuppies were great.  Hushpuppies were a little spicy with green flecks of Jalapeno.  Salad bar was small but everything was very good.  Others in our party had steaks and all declared them excellent.  Service was first class, fast and friendly.  We will return.   Bring cash, no credit cards, probably because your cell phone will hardly work, probably no electronic credit card machines either. You'll find plenty of local color here, one of the most interesting is that this is also the site of the community's post office.  You don't get much chances to dine in your local post office.  Might be a great idea nationally if you could replicate their fried catfish. Cell phone reception is pretty poor at this location so you better check your GPS and YELP before you get there as well.  You won't find much about Chewalla, TN, on Google but it has a lot of local history.  When the railroad through nearby Corinth came through around 1857, one of the stops along the way was at Chewalla near the border of Mississippi and Tennessee.  The Chewalla Road was an established trailway which extended back into the time when all of the area was Indian Territory.  It was the path for invading and retreating armies during the Civil War and a battle was fought nearby during this time period.   Sitting right beside the railroad is Jim's Steak and Fish, about a 20 minute leisurely drive from Corinth, MS.  The most direct route coming from nearby Corinth is directly out Wenasoga Road which follows the path of the former Chewalla Road. Address shows Ramer, Tennessee, but actual location is Chewalla, an unincorporated community South of Ramer and North of Corinth, well worth the trip if you can find it.

Bargain margaritas at $1.99 will bring a loyal crowd and the nice ambience and quiet atmosphere are a welcome change from other similar restaurants offering Mexican. The food was very good and presentation and service were also great again. Complimentary chips were very good. The salsa was much better than last visit and the beans were tasty- served whole vs. refried and mashed you find at most other Mexican in town. The last visit I tried the Birrias tacos which were really tasty- a Mexican roast beef slow cooked in a chili based sauce with a deep rich flavor that really went well with the rice and pinto beans also served with it. My companion had the Beef Nachos Supreme which were also very good. Enjoyed this first experience and looking forward to trying again. Their lunch menu looks very competitive in price while most of their dinner menu looks a little on the premium side compared to other Mexican restaurants in town. We'll see if the bargain Margaritas and quiet surroundings will balance the equation. On this visit I wasn't very hungry and only tried a tamale off the ala carte menu. The tamale was outstanding. Served covered with a rich, deep flavored mole sauce I was blown away. The tamale reminded me of tamales at my favorite Mexican restaurant in Dallas, TX- El Fenix.

They were a mixture of tiny shrimp with some goopy dressing on flour tortillas (which should be corn, they are tacos!). I ate 1 because I was hungry but after that I pushed away the other 2. Server never asked what was wrong or can I take it off your check. Our 40 minute drive home was very painful with my tummy gurgling. I was planning to ride horses this afternoon but nope! The main differences between these two, practically mirror image restaurants, are the number of dishes offered and the taste of the onion soup and the miso soup. Yamato only offers the two soups, whereas Tokyo offers seven flavors. The soup base at Yamato is the same so it doesn't matter which soup you order...both tastes the same. Beef lovers, such as my husband, will have much more to choose from here at Tokyo, with upward of 30 variations to pick from. You can eat here everyday for 2 1/2 weeks and have nothing but tempura options, with at least 14 of them being shrimp.
