Drove 2 hours from Memphis to have lunch at Hagy's. Four of us went and the trip was well worth it. There were busy but we got seated in 5 minutes and received great service. We had catfish, slaw, soft shelled crab, sweet potato, baked potato, salads, hush puppies and caramel pie! All were really good. We will be back.

One of the only restaurants in the area so we were hoping for the best after spending the day at Shiloh Battlefield and being hungry. It turned out to be a cute family owned place and packed for dinner! But the wait wasn't too long and the service and food were good. Only complaint was that the side salads were tiny.

We were in town visiting family and ate here. The service was amazing and the sweet tea tasted like my dads did as a kid. We had a bloomin onion and fried green tomatoes for appetizers. I had the fried clams with the home made Cole slaw and a sweet potato. The Cole slaw is not like a traditional coleslaw. It comes with the dressing on the side for you to dress it as you wish. That was probably my favorite part of the meal. The dressing was a sweet French dressing that reminded me of vidalia onion dressing. The fried clams were ok. The ambiance inside is dim but with a southern feel.

The catfish fillets were a nice size as well as the whole catfish. They tasted very good, hot, and fresh. I also tried the frog legs and they were cooked to perfection. The baked potato and slaw were ample and tasty accompaniments. The service was fast, and multiple hosts regularly checked-in with us to make sure we had everything we needed. I really like the riverfront ambiance. The river really gives you that down-home feeling. This is my favorite catfish place. I think it is the greatest of all catfish restaurants. As a special treat, my parents used to bring me here in the 70s and 80s. There is nothing like it. This location has aged very well and the food continues to be a special treat. If you can, try to go there on a weekday as weekends are very busy.

Sometimes simple done well trumps fancy mediocrity. This was a wonderful stop at a locally owned restaurant and did not disappoint. The catfish was cooked perfectly with a simple breading and the hush puppies were light and fluffy. The service was super friendly and even though we were from out of town, we were treated like regulars. The summer strawberry salad with homemade sesame dressing was immaculate and refreshing and the white chocolate banana cream pie was an excellent closer for a good meal.

My family has been going Hagy's since 1971. Back in the day everything was magnificent. From the catfish to the hush puppies to the best coleslaw in the world, Hagy's was one of those places you could always depend on. today was the exception to that rule. The catfish was very greasy, and was actually scorched. The fries were good, and the hush puppies were acceptable. The coleslaw was as good as ever. I always get it with the honey French dressing and blue cheese. Overall, it was a very large disc disappointment, and I believe it will be a long time before I go back.

The Catfish Hotel isn't just a restaurant. It's a destination, one that draws diners from hours and hours away. It's in the middle of nowhere far from any interstate, but that doesn't stop tourists and Tennesseans from making the long trek in search of the perfect fried catfish. If you do visit, the onion rings are probably the finest in the U.S., only rivaled on my road trips to all 50 states by Tumalo Feed Co. Steakhouse in Oregon. The baked potato and the fried shrimp hold their own. Unfortunately, the fries are pathetic and far from enjoyable, so skip them. But the main attraction, the fried catfish, is surprisingly underwhelming for a place with such a widespread reputation. While the batter is pretty spectacular, the meat isn't firm. It's not that it lacks tenderness. It's that the meat is just straight up soggy. I didn't think you could get fried fish to be that soggy, but it is! Just a few miles down the road, hole in the wall Pickwick Catfish Farm has the best catfish you'll ever eat. I suppose the people who eat at the Catfish Hotel don't know it exists. Middle Tennessee offers many alternatives, including the Nashville Hot Catfish at Big Shake's. Meanwhile, despite being such a fixture in local conversations, the Catfish Hotel is shockingly subpar.

When you're in the deep US south it makes sense stop to eat catfish at a spot that specializes in this offering. This hotel is, by reputation, such a place. We stopped in with friends to try out their fried catfish specialties. All were quite good. Stopping to give it a try if you happen to be in the area.

THIS is a DESTINATION CATFISH restaurant! Plan to come here and eat. Best catfish I've ever had and I've caught and eaten more than my fair share! Beautiful view of the Tennessee river from inside! Wonderful drive and kind of hidden. Hit the Battlefield in the morning and this place for a late lunch! Service is absolutely 5 star. The ambiance is 5 star. The food is 7 star! Thick flaky, moist catfish. almost more than you can eat! Exceptional hushpuppies the way they should be made! Have it for lunch! Don't have breakfast and you won't need dinner. This is a feast of the whisker fish!
