Updating after I revised my profile to indicate I actually live here, not SF. Outstanding. Our heat pump has been iffy since we moved in three years ago. It finally turned into an iceberg in mid-November during the cold snap (reversing valve sensor inop). It took a couple visits to diagnose, acquire parts, and fix all the issues, and Doug's team kept us updated on progress throughout. However, the best part was when James asked if the unit was still under warranty. We checked and it was, with only two weeks remaining on the covered period! So all the parts were covered and the work was completed before the deadline. Considering how much time they spent I was very pleased with the final bill. Our A/C stopped cooling. We called one place to address the issue, but after 10 minutes, the guy told us he fixed it and left. It didn't work. So we called another place with good ratings, Mills River Mechanical. They sent out 2 great guys, Eric & Elijah. They inspected both inside and out, then began working on the issue. Our AC went out on Saturday, June 22, during some of the hottest days we have had this summer. I emailed Mills River Mechanical on Monday, June 24. When we had a carbon monoxide alarm in our house Doug Peery with Mills River Mechanical spent multiple hours trying to find the leak. Once it was determined we needed two new systems Doug did the installation. He arrived on time, was extremely pleasant to work with, and very trustworthy. My AC wasn't working and unfortunately they weren't able to schedule me out for a week, but the kind lady who set up my appointment assured me they would squeeze me in if anything opened up. I got a call back within 2 days from Doug to fit us in that afternoon. Our tech, who was kind, courteous and thorough, came out and spent a lot of time trying to determine how he could revive our old AC unit. He spent time with the owner (Doug) over the phone as together they tried problem solving exploring different options. Doug Peery of Mills River Mechanical was everything you could want when you hire a professional contractor to work on your house. When Doug came to my house to assess the situation, I immediately liked him; he was easy to relate to and on first the first meeting seemed trustworthy. Prior to Doug coming to my home, I had another "highly recommended" HVAC "professional" come to my house. He charged me $600 for putting Freon into the unit without checking for the leak. A big No/NO when it comes to repairing the unit as I found out when the unit stopped working after 5 hours later. When I spoke with the man, he was extremally defensive and wanted to sell me a unit he pulled out of a house that he installed a new unit in, for $1000.00 Again no guarantee. Would not stand behind the service he was charging me for. Not only was I upset about the money I lost but even worse, I was put into a bad position with the friend that recommended him so highly. The first repairman was lazy and greedy. Trying to make a fast buck without putting the work in. Doug Peery was everything this guy was not. He has integrity. He is dependable. He is honest. He worked on my unit, looking for the leak for over two hours. At one point he was baffled and almost gave up. But he was determined to find it. He went back to the unit and an hour later came to me with a big smile on his face. Success! He finally found that little son of a gun leak. He repaired it, filled the unit with Freon and charged me a reasonable fee. But one of the best things that Doug Peery did was that he wrote on the receipt, "Ninety-day guarantee on all work performed" WOW!. Doug is a rare breed of professional these days. A man with integrity not willing to sell his soul for a few extra "Benjamins." From now on he is my GO-TO guy for anything to do with heating and air. Thanks, Doug! Doug got my AC going just in time for a heat wave. Showed up when he said he would and completed the repair on schedule. He didn't try to talk me into replacing my entire system even tho it's pretty old. It still runs hot and cold, just needed a new blower motor which he ordered and installed. Fair price for both the motor and labor. Also gave me some maintenance tips to improve efficiency. Hopefully I can squeeze a few more years out of the system. read more
