They were able to complete a water heater repair when I was in a bind and needed immediate help. For an urgent situation, they did come through and got the job done. That said, the pricing is very high and clearly reflects an emergency-only business model. This company appears to specialize in last-minute or crisis calls and charges a premium for that. They are not a good fit for planned or non-urgent jobs and don't seem interested in work that isn't emergency-driven. If you're stuck and need someone right away, they can be an option--just be prepared for top-tier emergency pricing. For anything planned or budget-conscious, you may want to look elsewhere. read more

Mills Mechanical - Labor Fraud / Gary Mills Mechanical on a handshake he cheated me for my labor... - Plumbing Near Me - Fremont, California

My water heater had a slow leak so I quickly took action to get my water heater replaced. I had initially called Home Depot and they connected me with an installer who had some nightmare reviews. Then I tried Mills Mechanical who had actually installed my water heater 13 years ago. Gary and his assistant came the next day! Let me tell you; these guys are honest, professional, and to the point. Price wise Mills was also a better option as they don't charge surprise fees, they stick to their quote based on the required specifications. So glad I went with Mills Mechanical and you should too! read more

Gary just left. This morning we found a water leak coming from the water heater. There was about 1/2" of water on the floor . I sopped it all up, turned off the valve and called my son. Sent photos to him so they could evaluate. They called Mills Mechanical and Gary arrived in about half an hour. Replaced the plastic part with brass in less than an hour. Gary is very friendly and seems to know his stuff. read more

16 years ago Gary replaced my water heater. Today he did it again. I think that many people underappreciate the details in something as seemingly simple as a water heater. Little things like is it facing forward square to the surrounding walls, the joints sweated cleanly and without spatter. These details are what separate someone who slaps something in place, and someone who takes pride in their trade. It doesn't seem like much, but every day when I walk by that little corner of the garage into my house, I see my water heater, as it is right in my line of sight. It is nice to see it and fee good about it. read more

Gary was incredibly rude! refused to service a property in walnut creek and hung up on me immediately. no explanation or reason why just yelled in my ear "nope! i dont do walnut creek!" then hung up. He needs to work on customer service big time! not what id expect from (the owner) go with any one else. read more

Owner of Mills Mechanical is an asshole. I call two weeks ago and gave me a quote. I called today, he want to know how I got his number and I told him the sticker on the water heater to call for service. He said his son and he didn't remember he installed and said he didn't want to do business with me and call someone else. He is the worst business man. Do not do business with him... read more

Gary (the owner) is rude and unprofessional. Wouldn't use them again if you paid me. Follow my advice and use someone else. I recommend A&B mechanical or Bay City Mechanical. Thanks for nothing Mill's, you guys won't be getting another dime from our company. :) read more

Please don't call these guys. The rudest most disgusting people you'll ever talk to (Gary). I highly recommend JC Green Plumbing, they'll always be available and will not hang up on you. read more

Mills Mechanical is always my go to when anything goes wrong with our Water Heaters! Superb service and always has a way to get the parts in the same day! This is key when you are a building manager with 57 units that need hot water. Gary and his son is always friendly and helpful when they do work here! I would give another star just because they are always available when we need them! It seems to always happen at the most inconvenient time. Great job guys :) We so appreciate it! read more

Mills Mechanical is the only place I'll call. Gary is fully committed to efficient and lasting repair. The rates are fair and he doesn't waste time getting to work. Make the right decision and call Gary. read more

Gary saved the day! He works on Rheem and American Standard water heaters. Specifically he had the burner I needed for a discontinued model and after a lot of phone calls he was my last hope before thinking I would have to replace the entire unit. I called him in the morning and sent some photos via text, he called back and was fortunately able to come out same day. Really nice guy and I am so grateful. read more

Gary. Thanks for taking care of my buddy Mr. Brewer in Dublin Monday. He was impressed with your same-day service and liked your work. I am always recommending your services when people ask me. Thanks again. Mike S from Fairlands Road. Hayward. read more

Gary is the man! He had excellent response time, in a time of crisis! Thank you Gary Mills!!

I didn't get a chance to actually experience a water heater replacement, so, I'm not reviewing their abilities. They might very well be very capable. However, I did call and even got the opportunity to talk to a live person. I needed a water heather replaced. I was asked some questions, the person wanted to know quite a bit - I think that's very fair. We agreed that I would send a few photos...and I did. I never heard back from them again. read more

Mills Mechanical came out to install a new residential water heater. They arrived when they said they would. They charged what they said they would - which was less than many (It helped that I know about recent building code requirements for water heater installation. So there were no 'surprises' upon arrival)) The place was left as clean as it had been when they arrived. And Andrew's eye for detail....wow!!! A very good installation job. I don't usually write Yelp Reviews - this is my second ever - but I had to let the community know that this is the place to go - at the very least you should have them give you a quote. read more

He said he could come repair our water heater and after 3 days of me calling he texted that he didn't want the job. Great that could have told me in the beginning. read more

Here's the scenario. We got home from work at 6:15 last night to find water running down the driveway. We recently moved, so the garage is full of boxes with all our possessions. I called Mills, and they arrived within 15 minutes of the call and diagnosed it within minutes. One guy started taking out the old water heater while another one was called out to deliver a new one. They even helped clean up some of the puddles on the garage floor. The whole thing went like clockwork and they were done by 7:30. Five stars. No question. read more

As an apartment manager, I have depended on Gary several times to replace broken water heaters. His response has always been great. The work is always quality. He is the man when it comes to water heaters. read more

I found my 6 1/2 year old 40 gallon water heater leaking all over the garage floor this afternoon which of course was just past its warranty! Sadly, I'm no longer surprised at the relatively short lifespan of any modern appliance regardless of brand... Anyhow, I came across Mills Mechanical and although there were few recent reviews decided to give them a call. I liked that they were local and not another big business chain. Gary answered my call quickly and was already traveling to a job site nearby but said he and his son would be able to come by afterwords. He was very personable on the phone and gave a competitive bid for the heater replacement. So a short time later I received a call from Gary that they were on their way to my home so I scrambled to clear all the clutter blocking in the water heater. When they pulled up to the driveway, he and his son hopped out with tools in hand to start pulling the old unit. Boy were they efficient in swapping in the new Rheem. They were both good guys to talk with as they performed the work and it was obvious they were very knowledgeable in the business. I appreciated the quick response, fast service, and competitive pricing and would definitely recommend Mills Mechanical for anyone needing a new water heater. read more

Well as most of the stories start; the area around the water heater was wet... Called up Mills as the first that showed in Yelp with 4+ stars and nearby. Talked to them a bit and was able to schedule the next morning. They came out on time and an hour or so later the new water heater was installed. They also fixed a few sins of the previous installation. They thoroughly cleaned after the installation. Recommend them!! read more

Owner Gary at Mills Mechanical is the guy you want to work with if your, water heater in my case, hiccups. He answers the phone and does his best to help you on the spot, real help, not scolding (even if we deserve it). And he's been readily available in San Jose on short notice if we need him. It's a simple review for simply great service, highly recommended. read more

Mills Mechanical is the best! Our water heater died & they had one on the truck and changed it out within an hour or so. Can't say enough good about them. read more

Gary Mills of Mills Mechanical is arrogant, rude and condescending. He replaced a boiler for us in August 2012 and circulating pump in October 2012 and after finding the boiler leaking, I called this morning to have him come out to inspect for possible warranty issues before I spend any more money on repairs. He gave me the run-around...first stating that he would "TRY" to come out this afternoon. Realizing it was already 4:30pm, I called again to inquire. Gary said he couldn't come out because he was too busy and informed me to try calling again tomorrow. After I said that it was not good business practice to give a customer with possible warranty issues the run-around - he hung up on me. A written complaint to the BBB is next on my to-do list for today. The boiler may need repairs...and I would be glad to pay for it if the problem is not covered under waranty - but the fact is Mills Mechanical is going out of their way not to stop by to inspect the problem first. read more

These folks know their business and get the job done. I had just installed an American water heater and it would not light the burner. I got a full days run around with American water heater, when finally got a return call from Mills. The said they would be there in 10 min, they were, 15 min latter they were done! read more

I called American Standard Water Heaters and they went out of their way to get me help for an unusual problem that was to be warrantee work. Gary Mills of Mills Mechanical (510) 656-9192 was called by them and I was assured that he could help me when I couldn't get help with anyone else. Gary Mills, the owner, was refreshingly proffesional with a "good bedside manner" to boot. He impressed me with his initial call to let me know that I was scheduled for first thing in the morning and that he had the order. He also called me enroute to let me know he was on his way. When he got there, he removed the burner unit and looked it over. Within minutes, he found the problem and he worked out a solution with the repair. His care and understanding of the problem changed this from being an all day job with total replacement, to taking less than an hour. He didn't mind me watching and engaged in pleasant conversation with a good sense of humor. I am a professional myself and Mr. Mills had me seriously impressed. I might add that this was two months ago and our water heater has worked perfectly ever since. I strongly recommend Gary MIlls of Mills Mechanical for water heater repairs or replacement. I understand that he also does other heating and air conditioning work and he handles pretty much the entire east bay area I was told. You will not be disappointed. Tony D. Benicia, Ca. read more

I was calling on the behalf of my family and saw that this company's sticker was on the water heater. I am very happy to have my friend to refer Mills Mechanical to me for my Water Heater replacement today. Called up Mills in the morning for my water heater leaking problem. I compared several plumbing company quotation and Mills is the most reasonable price with the fully services. I got my installation done in the afternoon. Gary and his son Andrew both are very professional. My original schedule is on Saturday. Since my water heater supplier is not open on Saturday, Gary helped me to move the schedule ahead on Friday and installed everything within an hour. He also fixed a few problem of the previous installation for free. I absolutely recommend them to my friend! Very nice person and super professional! read more

I called Mills Mechanical the other day and spoke with the owner Gary Mills. He was extremely rude to me on the phone and was pretty uninformative. I am usually not one to judge because I understand I may have caught him at a bad time, but its too bad because he lost my business! read more

I have managed commercial property for many years and I can say Gary Mill's is "as good as it gets". The comments you read in these reviews are all true. He does answer his cell phone on the first ring and he does get "right over" to help you out with your problem. But even better then that he doesn't BS you. He knows his trade and you can trust his advice. I have an old commercial boiler up on a roof. It was leaking water badly so I thought that it needed to be replaced. In fact, 2 other company's advise me to spend $10,000+ on a new unit. Gary's advice was to rebuild the interior of the unit for under $3,000. He did the work when the restaurant was closed and the unit has been working great every since. The one time it did need attention, I called Gary and he promised he would get to it as soon as possible. He did and again, I am one happy customer. read more

we got reviews from our friend, this guys are awesome, no cheating nothing, price wise reasonable, no bargaining, which I like it. very very knowledgeable in their work . on time, very good response, no BS whats so ever. they do not leave any mess, keep it clean. I would HIGHLY recommend this guys. we had called other company just to change water heater ,they told us $ 2375, and we told them we said can't afford then they less than 2 mins they came up to $1175 without trying hard.and immediately we decided that we can not trust this company. so we called mills mechanical , and very very happy. They accepts cash, checks, credit cards (not American Express). read more

I called Mills because we were having a problem with our water heater pilot staying lit (American Standard brand). Gary Mills (the owner) scheduled us for the very next day in the morning. He gave us a very fair price and could provide us with an accurate estimate over the phone before even coming out to do the work. He showed up on time, with the needed parts, and the repair was complete within 30 min at the quoted estimate. I will definitely use this business again if we have any further issues. read more

GARY IS AN INCOMPETENT FRAUD!!!! He installed my Teledyne Laars boiler in June 2013 - charged me almost $10,000. It broke down twice in less than 13 months!!!!! Gary fixed it the first time it broke down, in January 2014 but when it broke down again July 8, 2014, Gary said he no longer services San Francisco. Frigging boiler only 13 months old and he refused to service it!!!. The boiler manufacturer sent out an engineer, looked at the boiler and told me because boiler was IMPROPERLY installed, the warranty was voided. read more

I have been doing business with Mill Mechanical for over 20 plus years. I've always thought I had a good relationship with Gary the owner. I own a business and I called Gary up whenever I have a water heater issue. But this time around I have an issue and Gary kept promising me that he will be over on this date and on that date. Gary did this to me 4 times. I called him up and said hey listen you keep giving me the go around when are you actually going to come and look at the issue or are you keep going to tell me you will be here tomorrow and not show up. I have never had an issue with Gary before, I am not to sure what is going on. I mean you want to keep your long time customers happy especially if I have been working with his company for over 20 years. Gary told me "you know what we've been super busy and are not able to make it out there" I told him ok, why can't you even give me a phone call to say you aren't coming to meet me? He says "you know i forgot to do that". Gary was not even apologize for missing my past for appointments. Then he says "Well maybe you should go work with another company" I simply said ok. I was shocked because he was always my go to guy for this type of work. It seems like hes looking to make a quick buck here or there rather then taking care of his clients. Gary is not a man of his word. If you had a problem and another person calls in with a bigger job that person who will pay him more will get his priority first, and then you second making excused on that way. I will never use his services ever again and I would hope that everyone who reads this will reconsider and choose another option. Because if its not good money for him to come out he will not. Gary is not an honest man with a terrible personality very rude and doesn't care for anyone else other then himself. read more
