So my BBQ tour of Dalton, GA continues with this place I was recommended to go to. Walking into the joint you smelled the BBQ which I didn't smell at the other places, also my elevator to my hotel room smelled great with BBQ. I tried the ribs first because that is what I ordered at the other 2 places these ribs were tied for first with one of the places yesterday. Great ribs, nice pull on first bite, good rub and smoke flavor. The chicken was the best in town I have had so far, surprisingly crispy skin. The thigh was really good and great smoke flavor. The only downside was the breast was a little dry. Other than that it was really good. The baked beans were not my favorite out of the 3 places I have been to so far they finished 3rd. The Brunswick stew was awesome, I have nothing to compare it to because I have never had that before. The sauce on the side was excellent as well. I can see why this place has been open since the 80's. Great job I recommend it. read more

My second visit to this almost 40 year old neighborhood institution came on a rainy night. But as soon as you walked in this place certainly lifted the dreary mood. Friendly greetings and fun banter between patrons and staff--everything centered on doing right by the customer. And man do they ever deliver. First time was a wonderful tasty BBQ pork potato. The second time: we went for plate dinners. One was half-rack rib dinner with onion petals (highly recommended) and bbq beans. I went for the half smoked chicken--among the best I have had. Smoked perfectly, still Moist. Bbq sauce on the side and a unique (bbq laced) Brunswick Stew, which rivaled my favs in Virginia. Even the Texas Toast was prepared right--crunchy not soggy. A neighboring table had the whole catfish dinner--it looked great and the table wolfed it down. Next time! If you like luke warm garbage on your plate you might enjoy this place. It's pretty bad! The pork is cut into sandwich thickness slices. The slices are then literally smothered with BBQ sauce. You can barely taste the pork, which in this case is a good thing. I had to dig for a piece not smothered in sauce. I found it, tried it, and promptly quit eating it. The Brunswick stew is inedible. I took one taste and couldn't go back for more. The pork and beans were ok. They were the only thing on the plate I could finish. The service was very slow even though the place was almost empty. The server/register attendant was pleasant enough, but she was MIA a large portion of my visit. Good luck to anyone that eats here. read more

This BBQ restaurant came highly recommended, but our lunch was rather lackluster. The restaurant was spacious, accentuated by ceiling fans, hardwood floor, natural sunlight, TV, wall-to-wall posters and car license plates of many states. During our visit, the atmosphere was quiet and sporadic, with a few diners coming and going here and there. The BBQ Chicken Plate ($9.25) came with half chicken with skin and bones on, bbq baked beans, toasts, and green beans. I was pleased to see the chicken tail, and the crispy skin tasted sensational. More bbq places should keep the skin and tail on, or at least make the option available for those who prefer it. On the down side, there was very little meat and smoke on the chicken. With so little meat, it generated questions regarding the price and actual value of the meal. The sides were largely fillers and unimpressive. The same could be said about their bbq sauce, very standard and little wow factor. The Beef Brisket Plate ($9.75) came with briskets, baked beans, toasts, and green beans. The briskets had a nice red ring to them, but the meat was dry and difficult to chew. Not recommended. Lastly, we had a slice of Sweet Potato Pie ($2.25) for dessert. The pie was way too sweet, overpowering the natural sweet potato flavor. Not recommended. Service was friendly, personable, and the food arrived quickly. After assessing for quality, I thought the place was expensive for the value and the area. Interested diners should note that they offer other sides such as brunswick stew, onion petals, mac & cheese, cole slaw, potato salad, corn on the cob, among others. I hope to try the other BBQ restaurants in the area before visiting their sister location to sample their ribs. read more

This is the worst beef bbq my husband and I have ever had. We have eaten at many bbq restaurants from Savannah, Macon and the North Ga area. If you want to pay $20 for basically a bun and a tbsp of slaw by all means waste your money. You couldn't even tell there was meat between the bun. What meat was there was so fatty I couldn't even eat it. My husband always says yum, fat is flavor. But he was even having to pick hunks of slimy fat from his mouth. He is a meat eater and he didn't even want to eat my sandwich. There's more meat in a can of beanie weenies than was on this sandwich. Oh well NEVER AGAIN!! read more

Arrived here on Saturday around 3:45 and there was a decent number of people and this place had come strongly recommended. 1) Food: The bbq pork itself was great - had a wonderful smokey flavor that everyone can appreciate and the cuts were just right. The sauce itself was nothing special, it kinda tasted like the generic brand stuff you'd get from Walmart. We also ordered the bbq nachos which happen to be fries - they arrived with none of the cheese being melted and a drowning in bbq. These "nachos" we're luke warm at best and a bit underwhelming. If you're coming here for just the pork and plan on using your sauce I'd strongly recommend it. 2) Service: The service lacked any sort of friendliness. It kinda felt like we were inconveniencing the one lady who worked there. Granted she did keep the water and tea glasses filled we did feel unwelcome. Due to this Id probably only choose takeout from here if we come again. 3) Cleanliness: It was a well kept cozy restaurant with a nice atmosphere and everything was clean and maintained. That's what I'm talking about. First class old school bobbycue joint. Pit smoked pork cook over night low n slow by a dedicated pit master who knows his stuff. Pulled pork has got a nice bark to it and a serious inside smoke ring. Ribs are meaty. I didn't see any shiners and the meat had just the right tug off the bone I look for on first class ribs . Service is friendly and engaging. At the first bite you know the quality is there and it hastens the second and third. Follow the smoke they are easy to find. read more

I was craving some BBQ recently and I decided to drive out to Dalton to try this place since I haven't been here before. I got there around noon and the place wasn't too crowded, which sorta surprised me since it was a Saturday. I got a half-rack of ribs (of course)....they serve St. Louis cut spare ribs, not baby-back ribs. The ribs were cooked over hickory wood and didn't have an overpowering smokey flavor, but you could still taste it. The ribs left a nice "bite-mark" when you ate them as opposed to some other places that boil their ribs before smoking them, which is what causes them to really fall off the bone. A lot of purists consider boiling them first to be "cheating" since the bite-mark test is something that is looked for by professional judges if I understand things correctly. The sauce, in my opinion wasn't all that great. I think it was vinegar based although I didn't detect that vinegar sharpness to it. It didn't really have a distinctive taste to it either way. One other problem I had with the ribs was that they were barely warm when they brought them out. It always irks me when a restaurant can't serve hot food although the quality of the ribs themselves were good, it was a good cut of meat. The customer service itself in my opinion, while not bad, left something to be desired. I walked in and ordered my food at the counter like a lot of other BBQ joints and when I was done the woman behind the counter didn't really say anything so I just went over and sat down. They didn't say anything to me when I walked in either. Maybe I'm too sensitive but I sorta got the vibe of "what the hell are you doing here",LOL. Overall, not a bad place, but not worth driving all the way out to Dalton for. The girl behind the counter needs to work on her people skills. read more

I was in Dalton and decided to check our Yelp, the reviews good, so I had to try it, seeking that flavor that I so desire! It hits pretty close to home (Gates, Arthur Bryant's and of course my brothers, Gary Jackson). Let's say it was good, good flavor, falling off the bone. Absolutely awful BBQ! We were in town for my Mother's birthday, who lives in assisted living. We were embarrassed that the pork tasted old, the chicken dry and the brisket, well it had a chance with flavor but there was more fat than meat....literally. Me and my wife both ate the BBQ pork sandwich and split an order of hot wings. It was excellent. Potato salad and the baked beans were also delicious, small portions but delicious.
