Millennium restaurant is an impressive establishment that offers a unique experience for dining. Adele was our server. She was patient with informing us on the details of each item on the menu and made excellent recommendations. Her outstanding customer service alone made our visit here better than great. For the first course, we had the Amuse. It consisted of a soft focaccia bread, a creamy sauce that reminded me of hummus, mushrooms, and Kalamata olives. I would give it a 7/10. We also got Orange Creamsicle drinks. They were bitter which I usually don't care for, but for some reason really enjoyed. I would give them a 7/10 as well. For the second course, we got the Coriander and Arborio Crusted Mushrooms and the Artichoke and Potato Croquette. The mushrooms reminded me of calamari. I would give them a 10/10. The croquette came with a sauce that made this dish unlike anything I've had before. I would give it a 9/10. For the third course we got the Millennium Burger and the Masa Gordita. The burger was the best burger I've ever had in my life! It was cheesy, meaty, and extremely abundant in portion. I would give it a 10/10. The Masa Gordita was like the croquette with regards to tasting like something I've never had before. The masa portion of the meal was thick and filling. I especially loved all of the seasonings in the sauce that came underneath the masa. I would give it a 9/10. For the Fourth course, we had all of the three offered deserts. The Mango Cake reminded me of corn bread and or pound cake. I loved that it was paired with a coffee ice cream. It was rich and sweet with each bite. I would give it a 10/10. The tiramisu was different. I thought the peanuts on top gave it a different flavor from the expected taste of regular tiramisu. I would give it a 7/10. The Salted Milk Chocolate Tart kind of reminded me of a snickers. I enjoyed the cherry sauce it came with. I would give it a 8/10. My wife and I ate at millennium a few years ago and it was one of the best meals we'd ever had so we were excited to go back. We we ordered appetizers, the warm olives and the beets and they were really good. We were very excited about the main courses. Then our main courses came - I got the burger, she got the tempeh. It's hard to say whose meal was worse. This was the closest I've ever come to sending food back. The burger was mushy and soft. It was actually softer than the bread which was incredibly soft. It came with a "onion ring "on top, but it was more like a big hunk of tempura fried onion. I had to take it off because the burger was too big to fit in my mouth, the seasoning was just bizarre and the texture was terrible. My wife's tempeh was an odd combination of extremely bitter tempeh and extremely bitter arugula salad with no dressing, and some sort of Japanese vegetable noodle on top. It was hard to get down both of our dishes. The desserts were both good. But millennium come on you've got to do better than this. $112 with no booze was disappointing. read more

I AM NOT A VEGAN! Just wanted to share that first because my date picked the spot and I had some reservations at first but to my surprise I enjoyed my dining experience here! The ambiance was nice yet chill and optimal for a date night or hanging out with family or friends. The host was very accommodating (we arrived for late dining without a reservation) and the wait staff was very attentive. We opted for the 4 course dining experience as opposed to a la cart service at the bar. We enjoyed the orange creamsicle and strawberry margarita drinks, black eyed pea fritters, corn riblets, and the mango sorbet cake. All were very delicious! I'm going to preface that I am not vegetarian nor vegan. I was invited to dinner by a friend to "convert a carnivore." Although she didn't convert me, it was a pleasurable dining experience. My friend ordered: Little Gem Salad Heirloom Tomato Salad Both were delicious salads and I was highly impressed how they're dressings were creamy without using dairy. I ordered the Millennium Burger based on the Yelp reviews. It certainly was a very flavorful burger and I appreciate how this black lentil-pecan-sunflower seed burger wasn't imitating meat. The lentil flavor came through. As lactose-intolerant, I loved the carrot-cashew cheddar cheese dripping off the patty. It tasted just like cheese and I wish I had chips to make nachos. The kennebec potatoes on the side were cooked so perfectly. The chef gave these potato wedges some respect by not overly frying or cooking them. It's been a while since I've tasted good potatoes. And that smoky apple ketchup was amazing! The ambience at Millennium is hipster. I love all the wood tables, dim lighting, and simple flowers in vases. The patio is beautiful. Long-standing exclusively vegan restaurant in Oakland. Have been wanting to try this place for a while and finally went with a vegan friend. I'll start by saying that I am not vegan though I definitely appreciate well-made vegan food as it can help me cut down on my meat consumption. We ordered the Millenium Burger, Cornmeal Crusted Cauliflower Steak, Heirloom Tomato Salad, Oyster Mushrooms, Farfalle alla Vodka, and Roasted Sweet Corn Riblets. We also ordered the creme de violette cake for dessert. My favorites from our order: king oyster mushrooms and the creme de violette cake. I also really liked the dip that came with the focaccia. I was especially impressed with the cake because it was super moist and flavorful. Was not particularly impressed with the pasta (I think vegan cheese is just not quite there yet), it felt very dry and not properly sauced. Also was not impressed with the burger (def have had other vegan burgers I prefer, such as burger. in santa cruz). Texture was pretty mushy throughout and the flavor was just alright. Everything else was just okay and not particularly memorable. I will also note that the food is obviously made with high quality ingredients and the portions are small. We are long-time vegans and rarely come across a vegan place that we don't love. The service here was very good but the food was so surprisingly not good. It was one of our birthdays, so we splurged on a nice restaurant. We order 6 dishes between the two of us, and after the first three we started to regret the others that we had already ordered as mains. We kept hoping that there would be one or two dishes that were great but they were all just ... meh at best. We did like the fried oyster mushroom app but we've had it much tastier at other places and, honestly, we like our own version better. The cheezecake for dessert was TINY and also just so underwhelming. We love supporting vegan and vegan-friendly establishments but this food was not good at any price, and especially not good at these prices. Millennium is my favorite restaurant in the world, and I'm a food enthusiast who has been all over the world to top restaurants, plant-based and omnivorous. I've been going to Millennium for decades, since it's first location in SF and the food has been consistently excellent for creativity, flavor, freshness, deliciousness, and presentation. With the move to Oakland the style of food and ambiance is more casual, but still the best in my opinion. We love to go there for special occasions. I love love this place. Each dish always has so much personality, and you can taste and see the thought and care in everything, and only imagine how many versions it took to get there. It's still overall a 4-star experience, as the service is incredibly uneven, and I dunno what happened but the desserts were inedible 3x in a row so I stopped ordering them. So why 5 stars? Because: --The food still remains creative and incredible. They never seem to run out of exciting new creations. On a recent visit there was an incredible serpent cucumber salad with crunch, kick, herbs, and depth. I couldn't have made it myself. --Another "can't make it yourself." Even menu staples I can get sick of seem to have 25 ingredients in every dish. No way can a regular household go shop for and prepare all of that. --Prices. In this inflated world where every restaurant return sees higher markups than the previous visit, it feels like Millennium has actually purposely strived to remain affordable. It's got to be hard. This place is a longstanding area gem, and it's in my regular rotation. I would really miss it if we lost it. They can still work out desserts (and may have by now) and service. Wanting to have a more plant-based diet, an acquaintance highly recommended Millennium. Reserving a space is easily done through Rezy and I was able to get two seats at the bar a couple days in advance. The tables and patio were all reserved. Dining at the bar was quite pleasant as the affable Chris not only tended the bar (entertaining), but he took care of us from the amuse bouche to the dessert. Although my dining companion and I ordered the prix fixe dinner, there are still choices to be made. For cocktails, my dining companion ordered a Lovers Lane that had hibiscus mezcal (smoky and fragrant), cassis, aveze, lime, cava and bouquet sugar. To those who can imbibe in alcohol, I would recommend this drink. Amuse Bouche Chef's Choice House-made Focaccia with Carrot Butter, Pickled Gai Lan, Red Wine Marinated Mushrooms and Olive - I was amazed how everything went well together and I was afraid of missing real dairy butter, but after tasting the carrot butter, I forgot dairy butter existed. Second Course Coriander and Arborio Crusted Oyster Mushroom (gluten-free) with Calabrian chile-Meyer lemon -caper aioli and lemon cabbage slaw - I could have made a meal of this alone Gold Beet & Blood Orange Salad (gluten-free) - the combination of textures and tastes made this salad memorable Third Course Sweet Soy Glazed Tempeh (gluten-free) with pineapple nasi goreng fried rice - again the combination of textures and flavors of all the different ingredients surprised my palate. Although I liked the flavors of this dish, it proved to have more spice than I could handle. If I ordered this again, I would ask for less spice. Panko Crusted Kohlrabi Steak with creamy polenta (gluten-free) - I've had kohlrabi before, but not as innovative as this one. We literally stumbled upon this place when passing through town. I am so happy that we did!!! The neighborhood was bustling and we were able to get a nice high table near the window that was open. The breeze and sun felt great and it was great for people watching. The hostess was super cheery and our server explained the menu well. It was so, so hard to choose what we were going to eat. All the dishes seem so intricate and thought out. I'm not really sure what our favorite was but I know that you HAVE to try the crème brûlée. WOW.... I can still taste it if I close my eyes. In summary: place was cute, staff was warm and helpful, but the food was lackluster at best. Came here because my friend is vegan and they'd heard lots of good things about Millenium! All the staff we interacted with were super sweet and attentive--from the hostess, to our waiter, to the people bussing tables--they were in fact the best part of the experience. The ambiance is cute and I liked that they had an outdoor seating area. If I were going somewhere to just sit, this would be great, but going out to eat is about enjoying the food--so it was an absolute no from my friend and I. I loveee fun little drinks (nonalcoholic) so we ordered the sage lemonade and an orange creamsicle drink. I wouldn't recommend the lemonade, but my friend seemed content with their drink. For appetizers we ordered the focaccia (can't mess that up, right?) and it was 4 tiny pieces that tasted like stale, left over bread. The sauce it came with tasted like pizza sauce you get from a can--acidic and flavorless. We also got the eggplant steak: underwhelming, undercooked, and under seasoned. Would absolutely not recommend. Thank GOD our server recommended we get the tamale. It was the saving grace and if anyone were to go I'd recommend getting that and only that. Also, the portions are kinda small, it's not a bang-for-your-buck kinda place, and I personally didn't think it was worth $100 (including tip). I usually don't leave a review until I've been somewhere 3 times because I understand some nights are off-nights or sometimes food quality is inconsistent. My wife is moving towards vegetarianism for health reasons and so we came to Millenium on the recommendation of an acquaintance. He had told us it helped convince him he could go from being a total meat eater to a lot more veggie centric diet. I can see that now that we have eaten here. We came here to celebrate my wife's birthday. The prices are not that bad for a better restaurant like this one, which is featured in the book "East Bay Chefs". It was $65/ea for the pre fixe dinner. I went with the beet and blood orange salad, kohlrabi steak panko fried, and the hazelnut chocolate torte (gianduja) as my choices. My wife chose the coriander and Arborio crusted oyster mushrooms, portobello mushroom shawarma, and the coconut sundae for dessert. We shared (we are super light drinkers) a "Lovers Lane" cocktail, which is smoked Mezcal based. We loved everything! All plates cleaned before we were done. Overall, I was impressed with the taste and presentation of the food being great in an absolute sense, vs. "really good for vegetarian". My salad was super, and the rice paper with seaweed allowed me to make a small sushi roll by stuffing some salad fixings in them and eating the resulting hand roll. Great! My main course was crunchy and flavorful. I especially loved the polenta, which was so creamy and buttery. The gianduja torte was fantastic along with the accompanying scoop of ice cream. Really loved the toasted hazelnuts! Our cocktail was great, and it is a treat watching Chris the bartender do his thing. No blenders here. He uses shakers, strainers and his strong arms to bring the concoctions to life. My wife's food was great, especially the deep fried oyster mushrooms. The shawarma was meaty even though it was done with mushrooms. It is not that someone would be "fooled" by it, but it was substantial enough to be satisfying to chew. Loved the staff. A handy hint is to make reservations and think about sitting at the bar instead of a table so you can see Chris make drinks. One of the nicest vegan restaurants I've ever been to! Millennium has very unique, fresh, and delicious dishes. I had the rosemary and red wine glazed tempeh, it was amazing! It also came with smashed potatoes and broccolini and was on top of a really yummy sauce. The service was quick and attentive, everyone was great! It's downright criminal that I've never shared a proper review for Millennium given how important it's been to countless celebrations, dates, reunions, and random indulgences. Consider it fine dining California cuisine at its best, that just happens to be plant-based. I've had the incredible fortune and privilege of eating my way through a serious portion of the ever-changing menu, each dish a thoughtful composition of flavors and textures, sparkling under the romantic, warm lights. Some of the specifics may have fallen victim to my terrible memory, the details lost in time, but the flavors and experiences are all utterly unforgettable. Perennial staples that never fail include: -Arborio crusted oyster mushrooms. ALWAYS order this, and if there are 3 or more people at your table, order two. -Little gem salad. It's almost like a cross between Caesar and green goddess, crisp and refreshing, but still rich and satisfying. For the rest, you're on your own, but you can't mess this up. Wine pairings are also always on point, and it's equally a treat just to hit the bar for a cocktail. I can't believe it's vegan! Fridays and Saturdays are pre-fix at $68 pp. For starters, always get the fried oyster mushrooms. If you're not sure about an entree, the burger is a hearty and satisfying option. I usually go in wanting to be adventurous but the burger always win. What is in that cheese??? Also a pretzel bun is hard to resist. I did go for a non-chocolate dessert. I know...what was I thinking? The crème brûlée is my new favorite. Textures and flavors are more complex than the standard "bougie western" restaurant - I think it worked out well for the dishes I tried. Yum. We came on a Friday night with a reservation and ordered from their set menu. It was more than enough food for the 3 of us to try everything & leave extremely satisfied. With all of us having different dietary preferences it was so easy to order here. The servers were very nice and helped us navigate the menu because it was so hard to choose! They kept our table clean in between dishes and kept our water filled. I highly recommend the breaded mushroom that was similar to calamari! Crunchy flavorful and addicting! The beet salad is lovely. I had a chance to try Millennium as my bf's vegan sister reserved this spot for his birthday :) From what I know, this is their second location after moving from (or shuttering?) their SF one. Our group of 6 was seated in the larger table near the back, more intimately tucked away than the rest of the crowd. (as of April 2022) For COVID safety purposes, masks and proof of vaccination are required. A little more on the ritzy end, with a sultry, elegant atmosphere. Our servers were courteous, quite formal. They kindly stored our birthday cake in their fridge and asked if we'd like them to slice it for us-- funnily enough, all recognized that it was from Timeless Coffee, another local vegan cafe. Bringing it out after the meal, they thoughtfully lit a few candles-- a nice touch. CORIANDER AND ARBORIO CRUSTED OYSTER MUSHROOMS: Savory and almost a little briny, which added to the calamari-like experience. This establishment boasts a large selection of wines and a nice bar. Currently in 2023, it is recognized as a "bib gourmand" restaurant on the Michelin guide, meaning, "good quality, good value cooking." The interior theme is rustic, dark wood and is dimly lit, evoking a sultry yet sensible fine dining experience. I really like the inside, it feels like a luxurious cabin hotel mixed with gothic ambiance, in short. It is suitable for professional, family, and or chic settings. There is a patio and plenty of indoor seating for small or large groups. The service here is especially great and their staff are insightful when asked questions about the menu. I came here and tried their 4 course prix fixe dinner which is $70 per person and a reservation is needed beforehand. I opted for some a la carte items for variety. I have to say that some flavors and textures were too controversial for my tongue. The flavors in general are creative and bold, but it was too much going on for me. I'm so sad about leaving a bad review for Millennium. I had eaten here once before tonight, and I remember loving it (this was four-ish years ago). Sadly, I think the restaurant has gone downhill since then, or maybe they were just having an off night tonight. I'll start by saying the service was absolutely lacking this evening. Half the time, we couldn't find our server. Everything came out VERY slowly. We ordered drinks at the same time we ordered appetizers and entrees, and my drink didn't come out until our mains came out. That's just one little thing. Our server was perfectly nice and lovely (and brought out a complimentary dessert as we were celebrating a special occasion), but that doesn't take away from how poor the service was all night. We also weren't seated until 7:19 even though our reservation was for 7pm. Service aside, I'm so so sad to say it but the food just was not good. We ordered the marinated olives and the steak fries to start. The olives were decent. The fries were also okay, but the aioli was straight up bad. I don't know what was in it, but that flavor did not sit well with me. For our mains, we got the cauliflower steak (completely lacking in flavor and tasted.. earthy. Not the good kind of earthy. To each their own, but it didn't work for us) and the saffron farrotto. The farrotto had to be the biggest disappointment of the evening. The barley was completely undercooked; the oyster mushroom was like a sponge (very gamey) and the entire meal lacked flavor. I love anything and everything saffron, but I could barely taste it in my food tonight. This was a miss. If I had a do-over, I'd order the impossible burger. While I normally finish my big celebratory meals with dessert, we just didn't have it in us to order something else at Millennium. We might have given the crime brûlée a chance, but they had apparently run out by the time we got around to ordering dessert, so we just asked for the check and left. Super sad and disappointed with our experience here because I had fond memories from my birthday dinner here back in 2019. There's nothing I love more than vegan fine dining, so I'll probably be back to try them again in the distant future but definitely not for a while.
