The patients seem nice and the place is clean. Theres some nice nurses here. A couple not so friendly but its way better then where my uncle is. The patients actually seem to make the place fun. read more

Physical Therapists do not know how to interact with patients with early dementia - don't send your loved ones here!

My review was removed due to lack of details - 2 years ago my Mom stayed here because of the type of insurance or lack of insurance for few months till the morning she quietly disappeared when she passed away at Peninsula Hospital one morning getting additional care for (pneumonia/possibly covid). The clientele where from all ethnicities; however 40% where Asian. The former DIYAMONTE POSTE ACUTE CARE CENTER was changed to Millbrae Skilled Care and one of few local county facilities. I saw first hand and visited my Mom almost everyday for a month, and had never been to one of these places till my Mom ended here, so sad and depressing. Patients sitting outside of their rooms in wheel chairs starring into no where land. Few doctors, short on staff as well, busily running from room to room; however, they are attentive when they finally get to the patient. I really wish staff on site could do more for their patients. The center has excellent advertising but the service is terrible. Someone there is dehydrated and not eating need antibiotics but is so dehydrated can't find vain and they won't send this patient to hospital, need to be bathe. Therapy for stroke patient is touch finger count to ten twice and that's therapy. All the Stuff they say in the advertisement for stroke patients is a LIE. You go here to die. I had a family member in hospice. Our family was given couple agency choices from the Hospital. When we transferred to Millbrae Center they only preferred Sequoia Hospice and they said they will have a room available if we choose Sequoia. At that time we have no choice. Which is not our first choice. Soon to find out that your admission person also work as a community liaison for them. Double dipping? Conflict of interest? Ian spoke with my family member and made it sound like we have no other choice. I am writing this review because as family we have a choice who we want to put the trust and care for our family. My 90 year old family member needed, according to ER at Mills Peninsula, was hospice care ... fyi: they accept MediCal. Though the place is a no bells, whistles, no frills place, with spartan utilitarian furnishings, it manages to be more than decent, both in their efforts to make it look inviting, e.g. plants and little wall hangings, curtains separating the beds for privacy. It's clean and manages the patients, from what I could see in one week, with respect and dignity. We were consulted on multiple conferences calls by Nurse Care managers, Chaplain, Hospice nurse, and doctor, etc. Everytime I gave an opinion and/or wrote a note recommending a benzodiazepine for her night time sundowning or panic attacks or delusional paranoid ideation, etc., the nurses and doctors would listen and follow through. It wasn't so much that I wanted or need them to follow my exact course of action, but more that I wanted them to listen and be invested, which they did. In this case, my family member needed feeding, with crushed capsules in pudding/apple sauce, turning (for bed sores) and help with bathroom, etc. This place did it all and did it well. Every single person we encountered and dealt with was on the ball and with great availability. Are their snazzier places? Yes. Are there places with better facilities? Yes. Is it "perfect?' Nope. But what is "perfect"? Does it even exist? No. We were looking for a place where her brother and son could visit at a moments notice, someplace near our house, and where they'd accept her insurance coverage ... for all this, it ended up being exactly the place with the type of literal and metaphorical caring she need. While she was there, the staff diligently monitored her meds, did not unnecessarily medicate her with opiates, gave her a benzo BID. They gave her sponge baths, changed her into freshly laundered clothing which we'd taken from home, combed her hair, etc. We also took the equivalent of a religious text which she read at home, as well as her teddy bear, which they kept propped up next to her. Because of the cerebrovascular neurological event she's suffered, she's had right sided paralysis, loss is speech and couldn't swallow, along with other pre-existing breathing/lung maladies--due to all this, she was entirely dependent on the staff to help ease her suffering best they could. And boy did they ever deliver on this. They also fed her well, e.g. She was vegetarian and loves desserts, lol, whicht hey adhere to with fragrant puréed vegetables, guacamole without spices, toffee and vanilla pudding. When she passed away, the staff called as soon as they became aware of it, within an hour, and took care of the arrangements. Upon release from Mills, and discharged to hospice, we could not have asked for a better place for her medical care. These folks truly are the unsung heroes, doing an incredibly hard job for not that much pay ... they deserve so much more. read more

We have a very dear friend who has been patient at Millbrae Care Center since early this year. I won't mention the patient's name. That would be a serious HIPPA violation. The patient seems to be well taken care of. The patient is Happy. I have been working in health care since the mid 1970's I can see that the Center is clean and well maintained and organized. read more

So bad, our dad has been here for a week now, and he fell twice so far. Noone is there to tell you what happened or noone even comes if you are there for 3-4 hours. He has advanced dementia so he does not remember what happened. First fall, his bottoms and body pain. 2nd fall, his left elbow had a big bloody scrap with skins all torn. His blanket that we brought from home has a big tear in the middle. Noone comes and care for him there. read more

My mom was admitted here due to the insurance. Initially we appreciated how they let us visit whenever we want during their visiting hours, without much restrictions due to Covid except a temperature machine. However, she developed urinary tract inflection either at Kaiser or here. No one discovered it until she came home. Her roommate got frustrated about the slow response time and her family transferred her to another facility. They have activities, but no one asked my mom and other patients whether they want to join. Since she only speaks very limited English and only Cantonese, it was tough to stay here. They don't have any Chinese or Asian food except rice, and the meals are served on the later side around 1-2pm for lunch. They also lost some of her clothes/underwear that was not labeled when Kaiser transferred her here, but they didn't label her clothes before putting them into the laundry. I'm grateful we don't need to pay anything but I hope they can improve in these areas so other patients can have a more enjoyable stay. However, I'm thankful they seem to have a good physical and occupational therapy program! My mom recovered completely and don't need to use a cane or walker! The therapy program is 5 times per week. They have a variety of exercise equipment and patient therapists. read more

We have a family friend who's mom was recently discharged to Millbrae Care Center from the hospital. Initially, we suggested to look for other nursing facilities as we are not really familiar with this place! It's a relief to know, that the staff here are very good! The Nursing Director and Ms. Aileen (not sure if this is the correct spelling) are very hands on with the care of their patients. They communicate with the family on a timely manner and keeps everybody in the loop!! read more

My family and I was very happy that we decide to place my mother back in 2015 no regrets at all. They took care of my mom so well. Kudos to Millbrae staff and keep up the good work. read more

My father was a patient here in June-July 2022 but he was treated with care and concern as if he was family. The CNAs and nurses are skilled *and* compassionate. The Physical Therapy provided was consistent and very effective for my father's new baseline. The food and hospitality were also very thoughtful and professional. read more

My mom was placed here in December 2022 by Kaiser because they contract with this facility. Every time I visited her, she was laying her urine which was also on the floor. When I asked for them to change her they always used the same excuse "feeding." They said we will change her after they feed the 122 patients, which takes a few hours. Also, they constantly dressed my mom with the wrong clothing and her clothing and blankets were given to someone else. My mom passed after 2 and a half months and not one employee called us to give us their condolences, not even the two social workers. So, the bottom line is they appear nice and tell you what you want to hear, but never follow through with anything. There were two CNA's that were awesome June and Amber and to them thank you so much for the care you gave my mother! May God Bless you both. On March 16th 2023 I came to the Millbrae Care Center after falling down 14 steps at home. When I arrived I could hardly walk. I had to learn how to walk with a walker. At first walking with the walker was difficult. By following the instructions of the physical and occupational therapists I was able to get rid of the walker and learn to walk with a cane. Today 6/6 I am being discharged with the ability to walk without the walker and without the cane. Not only does the facility have excellent therapists, but Millbrae Care Center has top notch doctors, nurses and certified nurse assistants. The facility is kept immaculately clean. The food must be good because I looked forward to my three meals a day. I would recommend the Millbrae Care Center for any friend or family member who is in need of a skilled nursing facility and a facility with rehabilitation services. My family friend stayed here and did not have a good experience. While I am sure she was high maintenance she is still in a compromised state and was not only mistreated but they lost her cell phone. I am in Hawaii and count on professionals to care for her and her cell phone is her lifeline. so sad, elderly are so vulnerable. read more

My name is Gladys and I live so far away from my mother who leaves in this senior care center, that I really appreciate what they do for her and for us, helping us to be able to comunicate through a tablet or portal. She has been there for almost 4 years, she got very sick, first with flu and then with pneumonia and now she is improving, first because of God and then for all the good care she has receiving through her illness, I call them a team of angels at this moment because all work together to give her confort, love, cares y make her feel appreciated. Only God knows when she will go with him at the meantime I can feel peace because she is sorround for all of those good people, especially Victoria Nunag, Flora (the person who is in charge of her every day) and the nurses, I do not give their names because I could forget anyone and would be not fair, Abi the administrator and Glin (the receptionist, who is so lovely as well). My mother experienced two SNFs in the Bay Area and this one was the better of the two. The people that work there were always patient and kind, and I felt that they listened well and never made me feel like I was an inconvenience. If you are considering this facility for your loved one, go in and talk to them and you will get a feel for how they treat people. read more
