We had trees lining our entire back yard that the previous owners had just let go. They needed to be cut back probably close to five feet. Co. is run by Sr. Rafael who is on the job site making sure quality work. He and his son came within a couple of hours of my call to do estimate. Started the work next afternoon (when we had the massive heat wave and Burbank was burning down). He has a crew of 4 very experienced. Sr. Rafael is a bit old school, carrying around a notebook with a bunch of numbers that can probably only be decoded by him. What can I say about Rafael Millan and his AMAZING crew? First of all, they were extremely patient with us in waiting to get written permission from our neighbor to go on their property in order to do the job properly (this took over a month). They removed two Ash trees, a medium one and a large one, within 5 hours. SO fast, efficient, clean and he really wanted to please us AND the neighbors at the same time (they are very particular about their property), he addressed every safety concern they had about their roof, property, getting all the visible roots, etc. Their work was extremely safe as well, using ropes to lower branches, making sure that they didn't even come close to damaging any property. I feel badly writing a negative review of such a loved family business, but my experience was not good. I called to request a quote at the end of June. Rafael called me back the next day, and was very friendly on the phone. We set up an appt for him to come give me an estimate on June 30. The next day, he called me back again, and asked if we had spoken, and I reminded him that we had already booked an appt. I just moved into a new home and have several protected trees in my yard, including king and queen palms and a sycamore. I also have fruit trees that appear to be struggling. I wanted to get everything cleaned up, healthy, and also know how to maintain it. On June 30, Rafael and 2 other men came to my house. They were INCREDIBLY rushed. They were at my place for less than 10min and Rafael was throwing prices at me per tree - $1000 for the sycamore, $600 for the king palm... While I may know nothing about arborist/tree trimming costs as a first time homeowner, I was prepared to do what's needed, but as the costs added up, I wanted to know what's imperative to do now, and what could wait. It was very rushed, and when I asked questions, he replied that 'this stuff is expensive'. Given how the estimate went, I probably should have just found another company. However, I didn't want to wait to get my yard healthy, so I decided to trust the Yelp reviews and move forward. We agreed to do just the most important parts - $1500 flat to clean up the palms, remove a dead shrub, and trim some foliage away from one section of the roof, and to wait on the sycamore and fruit trees. We made an appt for 9am on July 11. He wrote the amount and July 11 in his notebook, amongst lots of other notes for other clients. I guess I shouldn't be surprised that July 11 came and went. They didn't show up and never called. I think they must be overextended, because my experience is so contrary to everyone else's here. read more

How lucky I was to have found MILLAN TREE SERVICE!!! I have used their tree service for several years and have never been disappointed. They come quickly to give a reasonable estimate (often the same day) and stick to that estimate on the day that they do the work. I have really tall trees along three sides of my property and (to me) they seem to be very hard for anyone to get up that high and do a good job, but MILLAN TREE SERVICE "tall tree guy" is a wonder!
