Since they were purchased by a chain, this former small independent business has lost their quality control. Prices went up, quality went down. Cashier is lackadaisical. Employees seem like robots. The personal touch that was so important to the small-business success has been lost. Darn. Scam. I asked for a detail and was offered a "mini detail" due to my arrival being a little later in the day around 4pm. Sure no problem, mini detail is fine. I got nothing near any sort of detail. I just had my car cleaned (The Works service) in Mill Valley Car Wash and it was a terrible job. When my car was finished I noticed many uncleaned areas inside and outside. I very nicely pointed out the places to the employee and he somewhat reluctantly cleaned them. When I came home (straight from the car wash) I found so many uncleaned places inside and outside of my car. I just finished cleaning it and vacuuming it myself. please see enclosed photos. This drive-thru-style car wash is good at cleaning your vehicle on the inside, minus the center console, which I had to clean myself after I left. Since I paid $90+ plus a tip for them to shampoo and vacuum my seats, I can see that they didn't even really scrub the stains on the seats properly because the residue from the stains still shows, and the rest of the seats were not even wet when I drove off with it. If you do decide to go, make sure you walk over to your car and watch how they shampoo and vacuum the seats and request that they get all of the seats evenly and tip them well after so they can keep up the good work. read more

I've been using MVCW for about five years now, and have only positive experiences. They are very convertible savvy, and treated my two convertibles with a lot of care and respect for the inherent issues (leaking is common when pressure washing around the top/window seal, for example) and they always mitigate these things. Sometimes I've had to ask for a bit of extra touch-up, but it hasn't been a big issues, I've just asked and they have addressed. Also really like their detailing services, I just had a hand-wax and James did a really super job, and went above and beyond to touch up my grill. I like all the people I've worked with there, always friendly-enough (for doing physical labor in 100 degree heat!) and reasonable. Love that it is all hand-wash, never is your car touched by some automated machines or brushes, and they use good green practices. Are they perfect? Nope! Do I recommend them? Yep! read more

My husband and I had the worst experience at this car wash, I took my brand new (less than 3k miles on it) car here to be washed and I asked for the mini detail. The wash it self was quick, decent and easy. BUT as my husband and I were waiting for it to be done, we watch one of the employees bang a car door into mine. When the employee did this, the stopped detailing and looked at my door and then looked around to see if anyone noticed. I asked my husband if he thought my car was damaged, he said we would check it out when they were finished. So we waited. When the detailer was done, he walked up to us to give us the key. At that time we also put a $20.00 in the plastic tip box. When the detailer saw this, he said: "that box is for the dryers not for me..." to which I responded: "that was the last of my cash and I thought you all shared the tip equally?". Still holding my key back, he said "no, you need to tip me separately" at which point he asked a fellow employee if they can retrieve the cash, which they could not. The detailer just stared at me, like: what are you going to do? This detailer, made such a scene that I was a bit embarrassed and asked where the closest ATM was. And I left to get more cash. In the meantime, while I was getting the cash my husband texted me and told me they scratched the car. I was LIVID... not only did they "tip-shame" me (though I tipped generously) they scratched my car. When I came back, I confronted the detailer and he denied that they scratched it. I told him that we saw it happen, it was a white BMW next to mine and the door was slammed into my car. To which he just argued with us... I gave him $10.00 tip to get my key back. My husband brought this to the attention of the owner/manager and he was apologetic, and said he would consider paying to have it fixed (this is the only reason I am giving this 2 stars). I was shocked that he didn't offer a refund and also to repair the scratches right there, after-all they offer this as a service. We live in the city and it's not easy to get up there... so we were left with the "I'm sorry, you're going to have to fix it yourself, and if you do, contact me and we may compensate you" I would highly recommend that you consider taking your car elsewhere. read more

Just returned from MVCW. The tires look great. The rims not so much, and I had to "finish" the job, removing a few large areas of dirt from the car. I hate to be "that" person that walks & inspects the car before you drive away, but I guess you really have to. I've had similar experiences at Lucky Drive car wash, missed areas and poorly cleaned tires / rims. The men & women who wash these cars are hard-working folks, however, It's incumbent upon their management to have them put a bit more quality control into the finished product. The Yelp ratings speak for themselves. Brought my car to get washed after seeing many luxury models cars going through their wash. I figured if folks are trusting their new Audis/BMWs/MBs to these guys, they must be good right? Boy was I wrong. My car was quickly sprayed down with a power washer and one guy was tasked with mit washing the car as it rolled along the conveyor belt. He quickly sloshed a dirty mit over my black car, missing many spots in the process as the conveyor moved too quickly to him to get all the spots. The left over dirt was rubbed off by the drying team which left a TON of swirl marks/spider webs on my black paint (black cars should be washed/dryed in one direction, not a circular to motion to avoid this). I've taken my car to similar places in the east bay and never had this issue. Interior was vacuumed and wiped down (although not all water soluble stains were removed), so that's fine, but the paint looked pretty bad and had a lot of leftover dirty spots. Never again. $50 later I went home and broke out the soap/hose to get the spots they missed. Had to clay and polish + wax the paint to remove the swirl marks. I would recommend not getting a full detail here, its a volume shop. Stick to the detailing professionals who know what they are doing and will do a more thorough job for not much more. read more

When I pointed out that the website said $18, the cashier was rude and said I could take it up with his manager and made a point of showing me on the receipt that he charged me $20. On Jan. 6, 2022, at 3:52 PM, in the middle of the Omicron surge with exploding COVID-19 case numbers in Marin County and everywhere else, the man at the cashier's booth at Mill Valley Car Wash was coughing deeply while not wearing a mask as he took my cash payment. I was so shocked all I could say was, "You're not wearing a mask." The cashier replied, "It's OK." At that moment, all I wanted was to get as far away as quickly as possible from the cashier with the terrible cough. Fortunately, there were no cars ahead of me, so I drove up and entered the car wash right away. All the other employees at Mill Valley Car Wash were wearing masks. I understand it is possible the cashier was breaking the company's rules by not wearing a mask. My intention in posting this review is to bring this matter to the attention of the owner(s) of Mill Valley Car Wash in the hope compassionate help will be provided to the cashier with the frightening cough and the necessity to wear masks for the safety of oneself, the other employees and the public will be emphasized as an employee requirement at Mill Valley Car Wash for which exceptions cannot be allowed. I really don't bother getting many - this is my first since getting a new car in October, but construction dust and bugs from the 5 were driving me nuts. They left soap all over the doors, didn't actually clean the windows x, so they're all streaked and will just fog up later, and generally just sucked as hard as you possibly can for $35. For some reason, MV Car Wash has truly slipped over the last few years. For $40+ for a wash and interior cleaning, the results are subpar. Your car truly rushes through the hand wash process in the tunnel. The guys simply don't have enough time to properly wash the car. If you watch what they do through the sunroof, you realize they barely cover the roof of the car. Only a cursory wipe of mirrors, bumpers, grills or tail light areas too. As for drying, nobody seems to (1) truly dry the areas that will later drip like door jams and trunk openings. (2) Back in the day there seemed to be a supervisor who would do a final quality check. Now it seems like a free for all. The process is broken, which is a shame because it seems so easy to fix. The result is I either become "that guy" who asks for them to redo it. Or I use them to start the process, then drive the car home and bust out my drying towels and finishing spray to finish the job. Regardless of the price (I.e. even if were half the amount they charge) MV Car Wash doesn't execute on their primary service: cleaning your car to a good level of shine & finish. Hoping they can turn it around though because it's in a great location and the senior guys that work there are really nice. read more

I always get the deluxe exterior car wash, in and out within 10 mins. Always greeted by a friendly gentleman, and everyone else have always been nice and helpful. Got a lesson today in "PH" when I asked for John's help. John is very helpful in explaining how they use different PH levels in their wash sequence to get cars clean without damaging the paint. My 6 year old black car had some sticky baked on bee (pollen?) dots, speckling the car. He suggested next time asking the attendant in advance of rolling in wash for extra PH application early. I felt heard and satisfied with his offer to correct it on the spot. read more

This is our regular car wash place for a deep clean and wax. The staff are really friendly and seem to try and do a good job. Today they really missed the mark on their Mt Tam car wash. This is a pricey wash/ wax, so we expect the carpets to be vacuumed under the floor mats. Nope, tons of dirt, pebbles, and the like. Come on, this should be standard practice at the high price point. We do enjoy the free hot chocolate in the waiting room. Will come back, but if it requires me to vacuum post car wash like today, forget it. read more

I should have read the reviews before coming here. I decided to try a new place since Shineology did a terrible vacuum the last time I went but wow were they looking stellar after this place. I understand I have a dog and there's a lot of hair, especially after a cross country trip and her in my car every day, but that's no excuse for professionals to not vacuum decently. Before I even left I saw how bad it was but I just couldn't even bare to sit there longer when I knew they wouldn't do a good job again. They didn't bother to move the seats forward or backward which is the only way to vacuum some places. See for yourself. The photos attached are "before" and "after" of me going home and using the shop vac to do a better job. The before is literally what they left in my truck. Ridiculous. Never again. A horrid and highly disappointing experience... Clearly, the Mill Valley Car Wash has firmly established a pitiful reputation here on Yelp. Let the stars be your guide! I brought in a slightly muddy very new pickup truck with some residual potting soil grit in the bed. The air blower at the end of the automated portion of the wash blew the grit up into the air, which then scattered all over the truck. During the subsequent hand drying stage the grit was ground into the clearcoat resulting in a few dozen superficial scratches on the hood, doors, everywhere. I reluctantly returned to the car wash upon discovering the scratches. I typically avoid complaining to people working in the service industry at all costs, but couldn't let this one slide. When you bring your vehicle to a car wash you expect it to get cleaned, not unconsciously vandalized due to poor training and negligent management. Upon directly confronting the manager, he assumed an immediate, categorical refusal to even entertain the possibility that the scratches occurred at his business, stating first that he had a college degree and even a masters degree (somehow justifying that his car wash didn't scratch my truck?), and that he had worked in the car wash industry for 20 years due to his personal passion for the work. He maintained that I was so wrong that he would be willing to take a polygraph test to prove the scratches weren't caused by the car wash. Scratches aside, the quality of the wash was sub-mediocre at best. This was the first time I have visited this establishment, and the last. I wouldn't let them wash my car again if they paid me 35 dollars, or a hundred. What I will do is actively encourage others to avoid using its services for the remainder of my waking life. I come here almost twice a month. and i live in San Mateo, I'm driving all the way here to wash my car because those guys use to do great job. but the last two times i left very unhappy. and today i wanted to give it one last chance but i got worse result. I paid $50 today for nothing, it just take 3 minutes and then they said my car is ready. I just take my car and parked next to them and I cleaned it myself with my own materials. Opted for spray wax in drive through wash on my Tesla, the staff wiped the inside of the car and windows down with the same rags they used on the waxed exterior. Entire interior covered with wax. Took forever to hand clean and scrub my windows to see out of them. Don't recommend. read more
