I spent this past weekend with family at the Mill House Lodge in Flat Rock, NC. We had booked a room here about a month ago when we had decided that we wanted to visit Asheville. I arrived before the rest of the group and had to figure out how to check-in. They had not told us the protocol just that it was contactless. I saw another group grabbing keys and followed their lead.. however it would have been nice to receive detailed instructions. The checkout process was just the same, confusing. The room was large, however we did plan on using the bed and the pull-out couch. The pull-out couch was probably in the worst shape and was actually more uncomfortable than sleeping on the floor, which is what we ended up doing. Overall it is a beautiful local with just extremely outdated amenities. If you kind of want to rough it just a little, you should check this place out. read more

Absolutely darling. I recommend checking out the website before booking. The rooms are much nicer and have been updated since they were uploaded into yelp. Very kind and gracious front desk staff, comfortable bed, quality towels and linens. All of the thoughtful and charming touches you would expect from a local establishment. read more

We will never stay here again. The pictures are very misleading. Although the inside of our cottage was somewhat clean, there are rusty tables haphazardly in the yard, an unsuable and unsafe dock, an old broken dresser on the porch, etc. The grounds are unkept. The canoes were filthy, the pool had old towels and garbage laying around. At no point did we see an employee cleaning or straightening up. We are not high maintenance guests. We would never recommend the Mill House Lodge. For those who have COVID concerns, no employees in the office wore masks or were taking any additional precautions. read more

What a great time. The Mills lodge was a great way to spend our short vacation for the first time in flat Rock NC. We stayed in a apt like hotel room on the lake. We went fishing and canoeing we also had camp fires right there on the there beach. They have a heated pool that's very clean. They keep the property clean and neat and we brought dog along for the trip also. He had plenty of room to run around. We went to most of the surrounding state parks NC had to offer. I loved they have there own waterfall right outside our room. They don't have the amenities like a normal hotel like breakfast but we had our own kitchen to make breakfast. read more

This was a nice getaway for the night. Great for groups. They have WiFi, clean facilities, spacious rooms, and outdoor dining space. The lovely little back porch is complete with rocking chairs. Very relaxing spot. read more

I really like this location. We stayed in the cottage. This little place has paddle boats and canoes in a little Beach. It also has a Seasonal Pool. The cottage was a great deal for a great price. It has three bedrooms and three bathrooms. It also has a fireplace and a screened in deck. The only issue I had with the cottage is some of the windows won't lock and the back door is hard to get locked. I think if they fixed the few little problems with the property itself with some of the stuff that was broken, I would have given it five stars. I would Clean up around the back side of the cottage where there's a lot of debris. It's really just minor things, like drawers don't work in some of the rooms, and the issues with locking the windows and doors. It's a really great place for families. We are staying in the full size house oh, so the Lodge rooms maybe different. read more

Nice view friendly folks good restaurants close by however WiFi service is unacceptable so if u wanna read play cards or watch tv it's great hopefully they'll find a way to improve their connection to the outside world read more

Great hotel if you have children. They have tennis carts, a lake w/paddle boats and canoes, walking paths and plenty of green space where kids can play. Our room had a balcony which overlooked the lake, so we were able to watch our 9 year old while she took a walk with our newborn. The rooms are basic and clean. They look like they were last remodeled in the 80's but have been well maintained. The staff is really nice. When you check in, you get several coupons and discounts to locally owned stores. It is also inexpensive with suites running a little over $100 per night. This is not a hotel for a romantic weekend getaway. But if you have kids, they have plenty of safe places where they can play outside. read more

First, we stayed in the Lakeview rooms. This is a nice little place that is cozy and clean. You tell tell it's been around awhile, evidenced by the exterior vibe. Not bad, just a little dated. The staff we met were very friendly and helpful. The room had a bedroom when you walked in, then through the small kitchette into the living room. If you continue out the door, your on a large porch that is separated to each room by handrails. From the porch you see the lake. It's a pleasant view. I've enjoyed my short stay and may return. read more

We have stayed here numerous times over the past 7 years in mid July to early August. We have rented one room, two rooms, and this year a 2-bedroom unit for 2 nights (July 17 & 18, 2019). Upon arrival, we immediately noticed changes--new paint on exteriors and a completely renovated office. Our room was typical of the hotel--plain, unadorned, in need of updating. But this is what we expected. There was more than enough room for the three of us. Our problem arose after our first night. The housekeeper showed up too early for a stay over and I asked her to come back later. We went out for the day and upon return discovered that housekeeping had done nothing but remove used towels and leave new ones and empty the trash cans. The beds remained un-made as we had left them and the kitchenette had not been cleaned at all. This was unusual for this place and I have never stayed anyplace for more than one night where they didn't make up the beds. Upon speaking to the manager the day we were leaving, I was informed that that was how things were done. There was never an apology or an offer to compensate--which I had requested with the office worker the previous day and had been told would be taken care of when we checked out. The manager was curt and uninterested and insisted on arguing with me telling me how she had never heard anything like this from a guest before, yada, yada, yada. I suggested that she might do better simply to apologize that a guest had had a bad experience and offer to compensate rather than arguing with and blaming the guest for the problem. The outcome? We will never stay there again. read more

We cannot give the Millhouse Lodge very many stars this trip, although we have had good dealings with them in the past. We had three different quotes for the cost of our rooms. We also had one callback when they told us they had quoted us a higher price than it actually was. When we checked in, they charged us a higher amount than any of the previous quotes. They even charged us more than they told us for a dog insurance. When we tried to confront them on this, the nicely dressed man in his polo golf shirt refused to give us any of the lesser prices. He also was not very sympathetic when I told him we were there not for a family reunion as we had been in the past but for my father's funeral. I just like to know I am dealing with a human with genuine compassion and not purely a business man who has no feelings. There were bugs all over the apartment. The power went out and we found poison ivy outside the door on the walkway (although they did get rid of it when told.) When we wanted to extend our stay, they gave us a deal for the first night but wanted to charge the fullest amount on the second night. I guess they would rather have no one there and no money than make an equal amount for the second night. Next visit we will be looking elsewhere for lodging. Sorry, MIllhouse. read more

My family comes up here to stay from Florida. I live in Hendersonville & forgot that this place was here until I was looking for sonewhere for them to stay. I'm very glad I found this place. It's nestled in the woods away from any main roads and so calm and peaceful. Taking the canoe or paddle boats out on the pond is so much fun. The rooms are so cute with little stoves and fridges. I recommend this place to anyone looking to stay in Hendersonville. read more

Just had my family reunion here! I loved the rooms ! And the area . Its a very clean and well kept place!

The prior reviews we read before staying here on vacation were pretty spot on. If you're not expecting anything fancy and are comfortable with the outdoors, animals, and bugs, then this is a decent enough place for a pretty cheap price. There were a few more bugs inside than I would love, but not so bad that we were uncomfortable staying there. We ended up with two rooms, as we reserved a second one halfway through our trip. The first room was smaller than we expected, the pull out couch bed was not possible to sleep on (super thin mattress where you feel the bars under you), and we were under the impression there was an actual bedroom (there was no separation of space in the whole place). In the second room, there were two beds and one was much more firm than the other. We couldn't sleep on the firm one (it was like laying on a board). We did enjoy the location, as well as the porch looking out on the pond. The canoes and pedal boats were in good shape and were free to use any time (first come, first serve). They also have plenty of life jackets available (we had a 3 and 9 tear old with us and there were jackets that fit them both). We used the stove, fridge, sink, toaster, and coffee maker in both rooms and all were in good condition. Both rooms had some issues with staples or nails sticking up out of the floor and had to cover up those areas to avoid stepping on them (we did inform the owner, so hopefully that will be fixed). Our first room had a shower stall only, but the second had a tub. We had plenty of hot water and everything was reasonably clean. Update: I increased the star rating and would like to note that the owner of this facility reached out to me upon reading my review. His consideration for my feedback demonstrated a genuine interest in their customer's satisfaction. My family would consider revisiting this facility based on that customer service! read more

We moved to Flat Rock area a few months ago and the rental we were planning on fell through. I searched the Internet and found Mill House Lodge. What a relief. Bob, the owner, made us most welcome and gave us a fair monthly rate. The entire experience there was a 10....A big ten,,,gracious people and all reasonable requests were filled without question. We stayed in Summey House, a roomy 3 bedroom, two bath accommodation. It had a full and large galley kitchen with all the cooking appliances, dishes and utensils you need. A BBQ grill was available as well. The location is great...near everything from shopping to recreation. Bob and staff deserve a big thank you from our family. I hope you enjoy your stay as much as we did. read more

the worst customer service ever. kristen is an absolute tyrant and a disgrace as far as customer service is concerned. booked and charged 9/22, cancelled 10/6 and wasn't refunded until "yesterday" when i called today she was disgustingly rude, condescending, laughed at me, told me no manager was around, she was as high as it goes there, refused to take a message to get a manager to call me back and told me to call back while laughing and hanging up. i called back, was sent to voicemail three times. absolutely appalled by this person and place. will be disputing the charge since it was not in fact refunded and will be filing a formal complaint. stay elsewhere, there are plenty of amazing places in flat rock and hendersonville will amazing respectful and enjoyable staff to make your stay that much better! kristen - shame on you, learn some manners!!! read more

The owner Bob was far from hospitable or welcoming. After we were told we had complimentary wifi, Bob raised his voice with us in the lobby when we asked for help with our wifi. The way he was treating us, we thought he was a a random rude guest. He never did identify himself as the owner until we asked him who he was. No wifi, one roll of toilet paper, one towel one wash cloth per day....we felt like we were at camp. Air conditioner was rusted out of the wall and leaking water on to our porch along with mildew and bugs. Housekeeping only replaced the towels with the same dirty towels and never once cleaned the kitchen. Peggy at the front desk along with Bob the owner are two real good reasons why we will never be back to this place. Word to wise....stay somewhere else. read more

While the accommodations were fine, I was not ok with how Bob H, the owner, conducted himself around my children. My two girls, ages 6 and 11 were watching TV in the LR while I laid down in the adjoining bedroom. Bob burst in the door - without knocking - then left - without explanation or apology. My girls were understandably scared and they came and told me. When I went outside no one was there. Never guessing it would be the owner, I locked the door and figured it was a guest who had the wrong room. About half an hour later he came back! This time, when my older daughter opened the door (without undoing the top lock, as I showed her) he asked if she "needed help reaching anything?" She said no and quickly shut the door, once again came and got me from the next room. They (and I) were very shaken up. When my husband got back from the store he was furious and went to go complain that some creep had approached our children inappropriately - only to find out that the creep was the owner!!! When he told Bob to not approach our children without talking to us, he made some comment about how they were being too loud and didn't know an adult was home. Whether or not Bob had malintent - his actions were at best unprofessional and **creepy** - at worst, predatory. IT IS NOT OK to approach someone's children in their own living room without asking to speak to a parent. Even if we had left our children alone - which we didn't - he had our cell phone! If they were being loud, call us! He didn't even tell them they were being too loud. Nor is it OK to burst into a rental unit without knocking - even if you are the owner. While I am not going to file a formal police report, I feel like as a mom I should point out this behavior so either it is either corrected or parents who bring their children are forewarned - or both. read more

We Loved the Mill House Lodge. Location is great. Owners great. We felt like part of the family. The rooms were spacious and convenient.

We made reservations at the last minute and I was anxious about the lodge. Well, I won't be staying any place else when visiting Hendersonville. We were late arriving and we missed the office personnel. They left a key for us and directions to the house. It was a house we stayed in, 3 bedroom, kitchen, deck, living room. the place was clean and homey. We spent the day rock climbing and came back to a wonderful pool. Our family slept well, ate well and left rested. We'll be back there later this summer! read more

I wouldn't even rate this place as a 1 but I had to to be able to tell everyone the truth here. This place is FUNKY! Yes, the place is way out dated, dirty! stinky! We were lied to about the room beside us, it smelled like someone had died in there and the smell leaked over to the already very bad dog and cat urine smells, in the no curtain, dirty blinds, worn stained carpet, wore out dirty bed, room we paid to stay in. Brought this to the owner's attention and was asked if we wanted to stay in a bigger stinky worn out very badly setting room up the weak worn stairs. We paid for 4 nights, by the 3rd morning we packed up and left without even asking for a refund! It was that bad! Do your self a favor and save your misery, stay else where. Also had the "Do not disturb" sign on the door when we went away and seen that someone had came into the room anyway just to change towels, no sheet change, no soap in the room, I could go on forever about this dump! This place isn't clean enough for an animal! So disappointed in the Mill House Lodge! Never will return...it ruined our whole vacation! I slept with a t-shirt over my face to cover some of the smells AND bought some carpet fresh trying to cover the smell in BOTH rooms! Thanks a lot Mill House Lodge!!!! read more
