Bottom Line: A nice store for discounted furniture, home furnishings and home decor but lots of…read moreoverlap with HomeGoods. Ahh, I love America. An entire, booming industry centered around decorative, dust-collecting stuff you can purchase so that your home looks like it was ripped from the pages of the Pottery Barn catalog and rivals any space on HGTV. And I mean that in the best way possible! Admittedly, I was kinda hoping that the old hh gregg would become a roller skating rink but I won't complain about another spot in Annapolis to shop for discounted homey stuff. HomeSense is owned by the TJX Companies, it started in Canada and it is purportedly nicer than HomeGoods. But even knowing that going in, I wasn't really sure what to expect. For some reason, I was visualizing the super voluminous size of an "At Home" store but HomeSense is pretty normal sized - lots of inventory but not overwhelming. However, I will say that the Annapolis size is considerably larger than the Columbia location. The Patch (an online local news outlet) noted that Cosmopolitan described HomeSense like "HomeGoods on Steriods" but I didn't feel that way. It had more of some things and less, or none, of other things. What surprised me about HomeSense is how much overlap there is with HomeGoods, which is just a few steps away, also located in Annapolis Plaza. Unlike HomeGoods, HomeSense carries more large pieces of furniture, has more rugs, has hard wired chandeliers and does not carry linens except throw pillows. Regarding the rugs, they have a ton of them at this location. If you need a couch, or a set of easy chairs or a grouping of dining chairs, I think there are some really decent finds here. I saw a chadelier that I liked but it was still around $600 so perhaps it is higher end than HomeGoods. Both HomeGoods and HomeSense have home decor, kitchen items, gift wrap and bags, framed art, mirrors and lamps. HomeSense has a "General Store" section that kinda sucked me in but it was really just organizational stuff and cleaning stuff. I think it's weird that the checkout is mid-store rather than near the door. I bought a big piece of art and it felt odd to carry it such a distance before getting to the exit. I must say, I don't think I ever recall seeing the parking lot at Annapolis Plaza so full!

Over the next several months, we repeatedly requested the progress updates and photos we were told we would receive. Instead, we were given multiple estimated completion dates that came and went without any product, updates, or supporting information. By mid-November--after more than two months of delays and asking for realistic timelines so we could coordinate with other contractors--we were informed that the business would not complete the project. The owner cancelled our order outright and issued a full refund. While we do appreciate that the refund was processed promptly, the cancellation caused a significant setback to our bathroom renovation, especially after we had already structured our broader project timeline around the commitments made earlier. We made a deliberate effort to support a local Annapolis business, but our experience was disappointing and disruptive. Customers considering custom work here should be aware of the repeated delays, lack of communication, and ultimate cancellation we encountered. This review reflects our direct experience and the impact it had on our project and schedule.

This store is delightful and if I was an impulse shopper I would have gone broke today and filled my car with serene water colors, fun jewelry, transitional upholstery furniture, upcycled art work, practical pottery and pop art posters. Local by Design features the artwork of other 50 local artists that use all sorts of mediums. The art here ranges from super subtle, traditional and classic to zany, wild and fun. I enjoyed all of it! Even if you aren't shopping for something on your walls, there is plenty of other great stuff here for the home, for yourself and for gifts. I ordered two roller shades. The salesperson, Kelly, was very nice. Then, a person came to measure…read morethe windows for the shades. I picked up the shades from the store. I am handy (e.g., able to replace ceiling fan with light) and went to install the shades. Four screws for each window with clear directions, easy, right? The shades did not fit into the brackets provided. I contacted Blinds to Go, and having them do the installation would cost me $82.50. If the shades did not fit, they would reorder at their cost, but I still had to pay the $82.50. The installer, Carlos, was able to install the shades. Carlos had to use a special screw and could only get one screw in one bracket on each window. The shade measurement should be done so the homeowner can install it according to the instructions! The Customer Service Department called me to collect payment. I gave them a credit card number, not once but twice, and it "did not go through" twice. I gave another card number, again, not once but twice, and twice, it "did not go through." There were FOUR attempts to enter a credit card, and the person could not do it. I verified both cards afterward, and there were no problems with the cards. I will not deal with Blinds To Go. The product was made so the homeowner could not install and the Customer Service Department was inept.

He also replaced four glass panes on three windows where the seal was broken and fogging up. His measurements were perfect and the new glass looks amazing. He told me that the frames were in good shape which was relief as the windows are 24 years old. Eddie cleaned the glass, tightened up the locking mechanism, and left no trash or debris behind. Eddie has a great work ethic, takes pride in his work, and is a nice person. He also responds quickly and his prices are very fair. Highly recommend.

I did some research, and realized the kind of blinds I wanted, but also learned that they could only be purchased through certain distributors. It seemed like a perfect opportunity to support a small local business, so that's how I stumbled upon Wills Decorating. I arrived one early afternoon and the place really did feel like a mini Lowes or something, hahaha. The man behind the counter was wrapping things up with another customer. I took the time to explore and I immediately found the blinds I had in mind. But I also saw these cool looking shades that could be opened from the bottom... AND top. And they had this cool honeycomb shape, I was intrigued! When the man was done, I found it his name was Michael, and he is one of the owners, and he's local local! He grew up near the same community I currently live. So we talked about blinds and shades, and we arranged for the co-owner, Valerie, to call me so we could schedule time for her to come over. Within a week she came, and I made some decisions that I am so delighted with now that the project is done. We discussed colors, I told her what my plans were for painting -- she was VERY efficient and professional. And she was also very friendly, willing to chat about my vision and give recommendations. Days later, she followed up with a quote and we made it happen. I had to pay half once I decided to move forward, and then the other half after installation. Another person, Dave, came and did the installation at every window. He came in the middle of a workday, and I told him when I had meetings -- he started with my office window, and I was worried about having to move my desk. He was able to easily work around it! He worked very quickly! I was thoroughly pleased with what he had done -- and it wasn't before long I had a follow-up conversation with Valerie and she was asking how everything looked. Dave had sent her some pics and she was as excited as me. All that to say, I am overjoyed and I'm looking forward to my next house upgrade (when I cool down, financially, haha).
