Because my home is less than 10 years old, the quote seemed unreasonable, so I obtained a second opinion from another licensed electrician. I was informed that the underground service conductor issue was the responsibility of Xcel Energy, not the homeowner. I contacted Xcel Energy directly, and they inspected the issue and completed the necessary work within two days at no cost to me. Based on these facts, I believe I was asked to pay more than $2,000 for work that either was unnecessary or was the responsibility of the utility company rather than the homeowner. In my opinion, this was a serious attempt to charge me for work that I did not need to pay for. I strongly recommend that anyone receiving a costly estimate for service entrance or meter-related electrical work obtain a second opinion and contact their utility company before authorizing repairs. One was ridiculously high (this is our second install plus another at my mother-in-laws, sister-in-law's, and our son's, so we have a pretty good idea about costs and what increases that cost). Hitech was responsive, knowledgeable, reasonably priced and when they came out, there was an experienced electrician training a young journeyman electrician. They were both nice and made sure we were happy with the job. 18 months after intallation, my car started to send a message that it was sensing heat at the outlet and was turning off. When I called Hitec, they were very responsive and sent a tech out the next morning. He said they have not had any issues with the boxes, but he would check everything out. The only thing he found was that one of the four screws was not tight. He tightened it and told me that if I got a message again, to call them right back and they would send someone out to redo the work. We have not had any other issues. Their great reputation, immediate response and willingness to make sure the work is done right means we'll use them again for any future electrical work.
