The guy was extremely rude, acting like he owned the place. We decided to try their famous cake, and honestly, it was so disappointing. It literally tasted like wet sugar! We spent over $100 on a birthday cake, expecting something special, but nobody was impressed. No one even finished their slice, and nobody wanted to take the leftovers home. My husband and I were visiting from San Diego and had mistook Milk Bar for our old favorite The Milk Shop, when we parked we realized it didn't look familiar but because The Milk Shop was closed we decided to give Milk Bar a chance. First, thankful for easy parking, I love it that there's a park lot instead of street parking. They had shakes, cookies, cakes, matcha and even little dog treats for our Kodi. I've had their cookies before from the World Market but nothing as fresh as going to the bakery itself. We ended up choosing three cookies, the compost cookie, a corn cookie and one with chocolate chips and marshmallows. I also ordered a little truffle but I can't remember what flavor it was. We didn't eat the cookies until we got back home and they were fine, they were all pre packaged so they weren't the freshest. I liked the corn cookie but the consistence of the cookie was like kinetic sand? I wish it were a little bit more memorable flavor wise but I was really thankful for such kind service. read more

I stopped by on a Friday night around 8 PM and unfortunately had such a disappointing experience that I don't plan on returning. I actually hadn't been back to Milk Bar in years. One of the reasons I remembered the brand so fondly was because of a lovely employee named Sacred, who was always incredibly kind and welcoming. When I came in, there were no customers in the store except for one man ahead of me. While waiting, I looked around and grabbed a packaged cookie. When it was my turn, I simply asked whether the packaged cookies were the same as the cookies displayed on the tray. The employee responded in a noticeably rude tone and said that the tray cookies could be warmed up. I then asked about the size of the layered ice cream "build-your-own" bucket because I was trying to visualize how large it was. She responded, "A pint," in a very dismissive manner. When I asked for clarification, she repeatedly said things along the lines of, "You don't know what a pint is?" The way it was said felt condescending and unnecessarily rude. The interaction became so uncomfortable that I found myself saying, "I didn't mean to offend you or ask a dumb question." At that point, my blood sugar was low and I just wanted something quick, so I ended up purchasing only the packaged cookie and leaving. I understand that everyone has difficult days, but customers should be able to ask basic questions about products without being made to feel unintelligent. The good: delicious Milk bar pie, buttery, chewy, oat crust. Rich, dense cookies with lots of flavor. The pint ice cream they have is decadent. Very thick swirls of caramel. The BAD: $50 pie. One single thin slice is $7. Each truffle is like $4 with tax. It's really overpriced. Service was not amazing either. We asked the guy what he recommended, what was good and he said said. I've been coming to Milk Bar for a few years now! The and quality of desserts here are amazing, and I love introducing my friends here when they're new to LA or haven't explored much of the dessert scene here. The baked goods are definitely on the sweeter side, so if you're sensitive to sweetness I'd be cautious. However, I personally love heavy sweets so this is def the spot to be! My usual order is their cereal milk + cornflake crunch soft serve ice cream, it's the perfect balance of sweet and salty that scratches my brain just right lol. Some other items I really enjoy is the Milk Bar Pie (SUPER sweet and rich, fyi) and the Kitchen Sink Cookie (amazing if you love texture variety). My boyfriend ordered the seasonal feature Wintermint soft serve, and it was delicious. Definitely a must visit if you're in the area, especially if you're already a fan of their truffles sold in grocery stores. Even better in person! read more

I love milk bar! It's probably one of my favorite cookie shops. I have gifted various items via their website for friends over the years. I stop into the Melrose location whenever I'm in the area which I was a few days ago. I went in to try their strawberry shortcake soft serve which was good. I wouldn't say it's my favorite soft serve out there but it was a unique flavors. Of course their crack pie is always the winner. As odd as it sounds, the corn cookie was our favorite but they didn't have any, I hope it hasn't been discontinued. If you ever get a chance to try their holiday flavors like peppermint, it's a must! They have an adorable area where you can sit and relax...the room looks like it could've been part of their kitchen at one point. I don't think there's any seating outdoors. Milk is located in the same small shopping plaza as Winchells. There's about 10 parking spots onsite and street parking via meter or in the neighborhood but be careful and read the signs carefully. read more

We ordered the classic cake and when we arrived, we were greeted by Mahalia at the register and Matthew in the kitchen. The claim to fame "cereal milk ice cream" legitimately tastes like spoiled wheat germ, it is shockingly unappetizing and and equally shocking is the fact that it's more than $3.99. This garbage should be free, I should be paid to get rid of it. I asked a very friendly staff member, "Is this what it's supposed to taste like?" she took a sample out of the machine and tried it herself. "yes." I stared in disbelief and she added on, "I know." The cookies are abhorrent, they're sweeter than walmart lofthouse pucks and 10X the price and actually have less depth. Sugar sugar sugar sugar sugar. That's it, it's all sugar. Save yourself the money and buy straight corn syrup and drink it, you'll enjoy that about as much as the birthday cake cookie from this soulless void of a dessert shop. The mere concept that they also host baking classes in here is what I would call culinary terrorism. An affront to desserts as an artform as much as the desserts are an affront to taste as a sense. Oh my gosh! I can't believe I've never had the ice cream here. I ordered one with cornflakes and it was so sweet and salty with the cereal milk ice cream. I am definitely coming back. The ice cream is $7 and an extra $1.80 with the cornflakes. The people there smile when they serve you and the place is clean and inviting to sit and eat your desserts. They had samples of the milk bar pie and my hubby got a slice of that. My daughter had the cereal milk ice cream and couldn't finish so she took that home. Cute little spot off of Melrose! A friend recommended it for dessert, and as an ice cream girly, I was excited to check it out. They usually have two soft serve options -- a rotating flavor and their classic Cereal Milk. This month's special was lemon, which I was hoping to try, but unfortunately, they were out. So the choice was made for me. I went with the Cereal Milk Soft Serve for $7.00 and added the Chocolate Cereal Crunch topping for $1.50. After tax, it came out to $9.31. The soft serve itself was a bit saltier than I expected, but the Chocolate Cereal Crunch totally saved it. It added the perfect texture to break things up. I definitely recommend adding a topping. From the display, I thought the topping would just be basic cocoa krispies, but they were way better. It tasted like they mixed in some butter, cocoa, and sugar to make them extra tasty and unique to the shop. I also picked up an Oatmeal Cream Cookie and had it with coffee the next morning. It was soft and not too sweet. Overall, it's probably not a place I'd go out of my way for, but I'm glad I gave it a try. It's always fun to explore new spots! read more

I can't tell you how many times I have driven past Milk Bar and kept saying to myself that I needed to pop in and check it out. Well last week was the perfect time. I was in LA and driving back home and was starving so I decided to stop in and grab a couple sweet treats for the ride home. Matt took my order. One chocolate chip n chunk cookie warmed up which made it nice and soft and gooey with chocolate. It was a good cookie. My other dessert choice was the lemon bar cake truffle. I love lemon desserts and this lemon bar cake truffle did not disappoint. It had a nice balance of sweetness and tartness. Customer service could have been better. Matt never cracked a smile. The soft serve was delicious! We got a cookie sundae with the seasonal flavor which was pancake. The cookie itself was just ok. I have had way better cookies. My husband also ordered a cereal milk latte, which he said he really enjoyed. They are open late, which is a plus, because not many places are open late in this area. The employees were not super friendly. They seemed like they were ready to go home and didn't want to be there. I also noticed that they have a party room of some sort, which may be worth looking into. The customer service was on point the staff were friendly, patient, and actually seemed excited about what they were serving. They didn't rush me at all, even though it was busy, and helped me pick a few things to try. You could tell they genuinely liked their jobs and cared about making people's experience a good one. I ended up trying the Birthday Cake Truffles, and the Gooey Marshmallow Brownie Bar and everything was amazing. The truffles were super moist and rich without being heavy, and that nostalgic birthday flavor hit perfectly. The soft serve tasted just like sweet cereal milk creamy, smooth, and cold enough to hit the spot. But the real star for me was the Gooey Marshmallow Brownie Bar. That thing was next-level dense, chewy, and filled with just the right amount of sticky marshmallow pull when you bite in. It had that perfect balance of chocolate and sweetness where you just keep going back for another bite. It tasted fresh, homemade, and straight-up addictive. The vibe of the place felt fun and cozy like a modern kitchen mixed with a dessert lab. Everything from the packaging to the presentation looked aesthetic and clean. There was a deal where if you buy 3 cookies, you get $1.25 off, so naturally we got 3 (2 compost cookies and 1 cornflake chocolate chip marshmallow cookie). The milk soft serve was good but for some reason not as I remembered. There was more of a tart taste and I was hoping more for a creamy and sweeter taste. The cornflake crunch, however, was really good. In fact, my husband asked me if he could have just bits of that instead of the ice cream. The cookies were good. This place is really good! The soft serve is nice and creamy and the flavor truly tastes like the milk at the bottom of your cereal bowl. It's flavorful but not sugary. Frosted Flakes topping was such a good edition cause it stayed crunchy and added a little saltiness. I was so pleased to see there were more Frosted Flakes at the bottom of the cup! Such a welcome surprise lol. My fiancée got the milk bar pie which was really good but I could only take one bite it was so sweet.
