This review is based solely off customer service and this BOMB pineapple upside down cake…read more I saw some posts on Facebook for weeks about this place. From first glance it looked like just another local shop but it kept peaking my interest. After weeks of seeing good reviews, I finally decided to try it. She was having a sale because of national pineapple upside down cake day. I initially got 3 cake slices because it was either $4/each or 3 for $10. She was very quick to respond to all of my messages and the curbside pick up was seamless. On the way home I decided to try a piece a cake because it looked so good and after one bite I called her right back and asked if I could have 3 more slices! The cake is so moist it has like a little gooey-ness to it so it kind of melts in your mouth. Not too sweet and just overall delicious. Be sure that you really look for the bakery because it is small and kind of hidden off the road. I drove past twice before I saw it. All the dessert options sound and look delicious. I believe they have new items every week based on what customers like or request. Also, preordering is required. Not sure if it's just because of COVID or if that's a regular deal. I plan to go back soon ... by soon I mean in 2 days lol. I also think her hours are Wednesday through Saturday. You will not be disappointed!!!!

I was seeking a cake not frosted with Buttercream, or not frosted at all, so I thought I'd give this a try. I really wanted the Taro Cake but whimped out when considering the taste of who I'd be sharing it with, but did get to try it. It taste, both in profile & texture, like a sweet potato. Purchased a Vanilla Strawberry Fresh Cream Cake. It was light in texture, not terribly different from Angel Food Cake, but absent of other flavors. Less sweet cakes often have overtones of almond or citrus that shine through, but this tasted like a vanilla cake minus the sugar. When I sliced into it I was hoping for more of a strawberry puree inside, but it appeared to be just sliced strawberries & a whole lot of unsweetened whipped cream. A little 1 dimensional for me. It was packaged beautifully w/ a lady finger & birthday candle. The gentleman working the counter was super helpful & I look forward to trying the Matcha & other flavors in the future. This one was a miss for me. While I barely have a sweet tooth, I need a little more going on than what was presented. That's a preference, not a criticism.

I was considering ordering a cake from ShopRite until I came across Sweet as Sugar Desserts. I'm so happy I found them because I prefer supporting local businesses, especially when they are POC and women owned. Right off the bat, the customer service was amazing. No more than 2 hours after I submitted the order form online, was I contacted by the proprietor Christiane. After a short email exchange, we spoke on the phone to communicate order specifics and to ensure she understood my "vision." And boy, did she come through! I already had a good sense of her decorating skills, but since there were no other reviews, I really did not know what to expect in terms of flavor. I ordered a tres leche cake with dulce de leche filling, and it frikken delicious!! The cake was perfectly moist, and the flavor of the filling was well balanced with the cake - which with this flavor combo can be overly sweet. But she really killed it and everyone loved it, the birthday girl especially. I couldn't recommend Sweet as Sugar Desserts enough!
