Over 42 years ago, I visited Sioux City to see friends in college and a Morningside football game. That night, they took me to Miles Inn and I'm sure I ate at least four Charlie Boys. Now I finally made it back to see if they tasted the way I remembered and I was not disappointed. Miles Inn is a great place, a local bar that was filled with patrons on a Thursday night. Ms T and I managed to find a table and I ordered a couple of CBs for me, one for her and a couple of schooners. Standard equipment on a Charlie Boy is catsup, mustard, pickle, onion and cheese. I ordered without the catsup or cheese because of my Maid-Rite upbringing. Ms T stuck with simply mustard and cheese. I really enjoyed this trip down memory lane. The sandwich meat is very black peppery. The steamed beef is great texture and includes some cooked onion. The quantity of raw onion on the sandwich was not overdone. While Ms T thought the meat did not have any flavor, I disagree. I don't really have a reason to go to Sioux City but if American Airlines blesses us with cheap tickets again, I just might do it. Miles Inn is a place to go for a unique "Tavern" loosemeat. Have at least two and a schooner. read more

I do wish they carried more hard ciders so I could enjoy a scooner myself (I have a gluten allergy) but I LOVE this place! Charlie dogs (no bun ) and a couple drinks make Saturday's perfect. Usually, during the holidays, we need to get away for a few hours to enjoy a beverage and get some fresh air. To Miles Inn we go. Schooners are basically these goblet-style glasses (chilled to icy perfection), which you can fill with the alcohol of your choice. A local icon. Peppery "taverns" called Charlie Boys are the mainstay. (taverns - the the unfamiliar - is the area nickname for a loose-meat sandwich). A (20 oz?) schooner of beer in a frosty glass. They have a full bar and a couple of other food items, but a $10 bill gets you 2 Charlie Boys and a schooner with a buck left over to tip the bartender. A "Hawkeye" bar, fans of other teams won't get much more than a gentle ribbing and your game on Saturday might be relegated to the smaller TV by the little-used pool table. If you want a true taste of "local flavor" then a Smile with Miles must be on your bucket list. read more

What an amazing place. We came in on a Monday morning at 11:30 in the morning and the bar was full. The menu is simple and delicious. The real surprise was the service. The bartenders were knowledgeable, engaging, and very friendly. Can't wait to find a reason to come back to Sioux City. read more

I came here around 6 years ago during Biker Nights when I had friends going to college in Sioux City. I had no idea what a "tavern" was and I just let the people I was with order for me. It's apparently the local name for a loose meat sandwich, which I had always wanted to try, and I have yet to find a better one than what they serve here. I tried at B&G Tasty Foods in Omaha but they can't compare. And neither can their prices. And you can get a schooner, which is a big giant beer, also for a great price. I would drive the almost two hours from Omaha just to go here again. read more

I sat at the bar visiting with friends and watching the girl behind the bar doing her job, cleaning, picking up dirty dishes, handling money and making Charlie Boys. If you've never experienced an authentic Iowa loose meat sandwich, I can't think of a better place. It's NOT a Bar B Que. It's very peppery and delicious. I've driven 1 1/2 miles off I-29 more times then I can remember to get a bag of " Charlie Boys" with mustard and pickles. My wife also loves them (cheese and pickles for her) and two out of the three kids love them. So , they my not be for everyone, but if you dine in and have an ice cold schooner of beer with your "Charlie Boy" you're sure to see alot of other fans of this place. Miles Tavern is very cool also. It's a neiborhood bar all the way. Nice people, good conversation, just super friendly. I believe they're closed on Suday, so be sure to go any other day. Enjoy!!! read more
