We keep coming back mainly because the service is always fantastic. The staff clearly put in the effort, but the food falls short and is pretty average across the board. Also, take a close look at the menu--it doesn't make it clear that entrees actually include a side, which can be confusing when ordering. Decent option if you're already in the casino, but go for the service rather than the food. read more

I Dined here solo on Halloween night, while on a business trip. I walked downstairs from my room with no reservation, and was greeted and seated quickly. I decided on starting with their Caesar salad, and my main entree was the New York steak and a loaded baked potato. Kept my drink setup fairly simple with a nitro vanilla porter, and an unsweetened iced tea. The food was fresh and tasty, my steak cooked to order , and the potato was delicious. I passed on dessert, because I was stuffed, but my experience here was up to par with most American steakhouses. read more

I had very low expectations on this place because of the location but it truly surprise me. The atmosphere feels super laid back and cool at the same time. The service was very fast and friendly and the food was way better than what I was expecting. Everything that we order was great, specially the sweet corn side dish. I would be coming back here. read more

Casino fare. In other words, not carefully prepared unless you're lucky. My stroganoff was pretty good, but not warm enough. Wife's burratta salad was bland. Server was sweet, but slow. read more

My wife and I stopped in for dinner prior to the Kenny Wayne Shepherd concert being held in the casino. Upon being seated we were warned that the wait times for drinks were 20 minutes and longer for the food to arrive so that was disappointing that they seemingly were short staffed knowing they would be busy for the concert. We ordered the Blackened chicken and one of the burgers. Both were absolutely excellent and I'm not really a fan of fries but they were about as good as I've ever had. There is a beautiful outdoor seating area and the main dining rooms atmosphere is really something. Next time we are in Sioux City we would love to give Main & Abbey another shot. read more

We had been looking forward to eating at Main and Abby. We hadn't been there for a couple of years but we remembered the awesome French Onion Soup. Tonight we went there and the soup was horrible.. French Onion soup should not be chunky. It was like having old gravy with onion chunks and hard bread!! The waitress didn't even offer to get us something else or credit us for the bad food. WE WILL NOT BE RETURNING! read more

A group of us went there for Thanksgiving meal. There was a choice of Turkey or Ham, broccolini, creamed potatoes with gravy and stuffing. The ham, turkey, potatoes broccolini were good, not great. The stuffing was not. There were no substitutions. I feel like the plates were pre-made and warmed before bringing to the table. Some at our table said their food was still cold. One meal was comped since it was still cold in the middle after reheating. Service was very good. Regular menu was available also. Their southwest egg rolls were good. We did have an issue with paying. We knew in advance it would be one check so everyone brought cash. The money $470 was counted 3x before handing over. Server returned saying we were $50 short. Again, we counted 3x. read more

Went there for an early dinner. Ate at the bar and received excellent service. Food was great.

We grabbed dinner at M+A on our way through Iowa. We were not disappointed! My husband had the hot, honey chicken sandwich with the Parmesan fries and it was out of this world amazing! I had the chicken house salad - it was fresh and tasty. The dressing was homemade and fabulous! Next time we are near Main + Abbey we will be back! read more

Great staff, food was good. The chef did come out and greet us. All in all a fine place to visit.

Wow, we never expected such a wonderful meal. The food was oh so delicious! Large plates that two people honestly could share. We also had the pretzel and bao appetizers. They both were also excellent. The prices are a little up there but it is so worth every penny. Atmosphere is very nice and service was great as well. I WOULD DEFINITELY HAVE DINNER HERE AGAIN! read more

The service was the absolute worst ever. The waitress was blatantly hitting on my fiancé the entire time. She would only talk to him and wouldn't face me. She came to our table a total of 9 times and asked how our food was 3 times. She also kept touching him which made both of us uncomfortable. She also tried reaching out to him outside of the restaurant because he paid with his card, meaning his name was on the receipt, so that's how she got his name. She glared at me the whole time. Very uncomfortable, awkward, and tense. She wouldn't stop either. Food: was throwing up and had diarrhea for the next 2 days read more

I thoroughly enjoyed my visit. I was dining with 3 other friends. I had the beer cheese fried chicken with garlic mashed potatoes and mac and cheese. It was all amazing! The chicken is like chicken fried chicken not fried chicken pieces. I never take leftovers when I'm traveling but this time I did. My friend very much enjoyed the mac and cheese burger with fries, which was enormous. Another friend had the prime rib, baked potato and asparagus and I think he was considering licking his plate. My other friend had steak, the potatoes and asparagus. She said it was amazing. I really wish I had room for dessert but I didn't. Our server was friendly and the restrooms were relatively clean considering a blizzard was rolling through. I thought the prices were exceptionally reasonable for being a Hard Rock restaurant. read more

50 years ago I entered my first year of college at The University of South Dakota which is 30 miles from Sioux City, IA. We decided to stay at the Hard Rock Hotel in Sioux City on our way to Omaha. Their top restaurant is the Main + Abbey and a friend recommended it to us & WOW, the food & service was exceptional! For an appetizer, we split an order of BAO, the BBQ pork belly was fantastic! I had lamb bolognese on homemade pasta & my wife had salmon, outstanding experience! We will stay there again as the food is worth a return trip! read more

The atmosphere here is pretty cool. The fan above the bar is a sight to behold! The food was good. We tried the pretzel, lamb pops and barely soup. We didn't eat any full meals. The tables for larger groups are cute and fit into the theme. The reason it didn't get 5/5 stars was Service was pretty slow and non-urgent. We were here at an off time (2 pm), so it may just be the timing. We will consider coming back to eat. PS: the bloody Mary's is delicious read more

This likely is the best restaurant in Sioux City. The food is creative and tasty, service is very good, and the interior/atmosphere are about as good as you'll get out here. Given that this is on the high-end of local dining options, prices are remarkably low. Here's a detailed run down: 1) Food: the dishes here are a collection of contemporary and somewhat creative takes on american classics like fried chicken. Expect a high calorie count. I ordered there Double Crunch chicken, which comes with a side of garlic mashed potatoes, carrots, and a mushroom gravy. The meal was very heavy, but tasted pretty good. The quality of the chicken was good, sodium wasn't too high, and the meat was boneless (woo hoo). I also had a happy hour appetizer, the Reuben rolls, which were the best part of this meal. They provide you complimentary pretzel bread with honey walnut butter and Dijon mustard, but the pretzel bread could have used more sodium and could have been crunchier. Overall, good food relative to other restaurants in the area. See attached pics. 2) Service: in line with just about every waitress and hostess I've met in Iowa, the staff here were friendly, helpful, and a little folksy (I love that about this part of the country). Both my waitress (Brittany) and hostess had helpful menu recommendations. Food came out promptly. Great! 3) Atmosphere: the crowd is older (50+) and appears Midwestern. The decor is contemporary and dark, with liberal use of wood and brick (like the rest of the Hard Rock). See attached pics. 4) Value: the prices are a nice selling point to this restaurant. For a relatively high-end restaurant, you're not paying too much. My entree was $16, and my appetizer was only $4 during happy hour. Iowa I wish I could take your prices with me to LA! Great local restaurant. read more

This place is tucked away in the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino. I really like the ambiance of the restaurant and the environment. This place was mediocre though. The staff was friendly, the food was wannabe fancy, and the drinks were limited. Being a Gastropub, I expected more options for beer and wine. The pork chop was flavorful but dry, and the presentation needed work. read more

The happy hour is the best time to visit because it is half priced drinks and appetizers. We made a meal from the appetizers, and we only spend $40 for the entire meal, including two drinks each. He atmosphere is very modern, and we got to sit in a booth looking out over the restaurant. The cocktails on the menu are all winners-we ordered the Pimm's cup, kiwi martini, etc For the appetizers, we ordered the charcuterie plate, Reuben egg rolls, poutine fries, and tacos. The Reuben egg rolls were very flavorful and unique. The charcuterie plate had a nice selection of meats and cheese. The only miss was the tacos, which were lacking in flavor and heat. I would definitely go back here again for happy hot and also to try their entrees. read more

We came down to the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino for my Fiancé's birthday for the 3rd year in a row. Over the last three years, we never realized there was one more restaurant tucked into the corner. Boy we sure didn't know what we were missing!!! Our last night here, we visited only to be welcomed by great staff. The dim lights and music made it perfect for any occasion, such as ours, a birthday and a date. Our waitress Melinda was very friendly and knowledgeable. She was very prompt in answering any questions we had and made the experience over the top! She took pictures for us when asked. She went out of her way to make my fiancé's birthday as special as possible!!! She was seriously fantastic! The restaurant itself was very clean. Nice artwork and a very beautiful environment. My fiancé had to sit by the Marilyn Monroe picture since that is her idol. The lit candles were nice. The air inside was perfect. Not too hot or cold. We were in there toward closing, so it wasn't too busy or loud, but I don't believe I would foresee that to be a problem. With it being a unique fine dining atmosphere, I feel the clientele that dine there go there with the same expectations. The food down to even the water was amazing. The water was so nicely chilled, there was no need for ice. The mixed drinks were perfect. We started with a half Caesar salad and I would say it was the best I have had. The dressing wasn't to thick and the salad had such a fresh and great taste. I had ordered the ribeye with lobster came with buttered potatoes and broccolini. My woman had the NY Strip with Lobster with buttered potatoes and Broccolini. The steaks were medium rare as I ordered and was so beautifully cooked. The taste alone was the best we had ever had. To cut into the steak was equivalent to slicing into butter. Chewing it couldn't have came any easier. The lobster with a little char was the best lobster and we are big fans of red lobster. Such great fresh taste with a beautiful dish of melted butter. Fluffy tasty buttered potatoes and flavorful amazing broccolini. I can not get over how good the food truly was!!! It was mind blowing and with that taste you can understand why the price. To end our meal, my fiancé was given a special treat for her birthday. A Chocolate Torte! The presentation was much more than expected. The almond bark was an awesome touch with gold painted blackberries and white chocolate chips and a beautiful chocolate plate decor. The Torte was fresh and tasteful as it melts in your mouth. I again can't get over the taste and amazing experience we had. I was not expecting a 5 star experience. I read reviews and I struggle because people complain about things that are irrelevant to the restaurant and what is out of their control. Everybody is a critic and for a restaurant located in Iowa, this is by far a 5 Star restaurant. You wont get this unless you go to the coasts. The lobster to be so fresh and tasteful. Let alone Sioux City, Iowa. How can people complain? I want to thank the Hard Rock for the amazing experience and the Main + Abbey for the hospitality and amazing service and food!!!! Also, Happy Birthday to my beautiful Fiancé!! Honestly we come to this location once a year and we are treated above and beyond like a king and queen that's why we drive four hours to be here! Truly a 5 Star read more

Based off the positive reviews, we tried this place for lunch on our way through Sioux City; it was so-so. While we were seated right away (seat yourself-open seating), it took quite a while for menus and the drink order. We asked for a couple minutes to look over the menu - should have kept the waitress there; took a while for her to return. Once ordered, our food came out rather quickly, but alas.... it too was not what we completely ordered. It took a while for the server to return, this was even after we asked for dressing for the BLT's. Hubby gave up and started eating his and that's when we realized that the sandwich wasn't as ordered. I assume it was the manager that brought my meal back out to me with the added ingredients and his apologies. The atmosphere was appealing and quiet and the restaurant was nice and clean. Our visit was just before lunch, but never really noticed a "crowd" even later on that would warrant the slow service. When we received the check, we were pleased to see that we were not charged the "up charge" for the added avocado, but it would have been nice for the server to communicate it to us. We didn't ding her on her tip, but for the reasons above - only giving the 3 stars for the establishment. I dunno - maybe we had our expectations set too high. read more

One word to describe this place is excellent! Very good food at a very good price for a fancy restaurant! I went with my mom before seeing Jersey Boys and we were not at all disappointed! For appetizers we had the pretzel with fondue and shrimp perogies! They were both amazing. For a main course I had the 8oz filet mignon and she had the 12oz KC strip. Both were super tender and excellent quality. I will definitely be back! read more

Not a Great experience when you walk into the smell of cigarette smoke and it seemed dirty. when we checked in with the staff at the front desk of the restaurant, she seemed irritated that we were there and did not make eye contact. Sioux City is having its first real restaurant week and I've had some very good meals. I was extremely disappointed to call Main+Abbey and ask to get my meal for carry out. I was told they weren't offering a carry out option. So despite all of their commercials touting their vast and varied measures to protect the community from Covid, they're all talk. We've been coming to this restaurant for 4 years around the same time every year to kick off my family's Christmas. They change the menu every year ... this years menu was just ok. I ordered a shrimp cocktail that was supposed to have jumbo shrimp ... priced at 14 dollars. I received 4 average sized shrimp on a bed of ice with enough dipping sauce for 20 shrimp. In comparison my husband ordered a huge cheeseburger for 15 dollars that came with a side of fries. My sister ordered a strange carbonara that she sent back and my French onion soup was made with too much white wine. The service was slow and chef was slower. By the time my sister got her food everyone was done and ready to leave. Gratuity was already added. A manager never came over after our table had multiple issues. We had a menu that was from a previous year. We won't be returning. read more

The last couple of times we have dined here, its been less than perfect. A few weeks ago we waited forever to get served our food, and they wasn't that busy. Last night we waited again, but wasn't in a hurry so we were happy to visit with our friends. We had ordered appetizers, but to our surprise, all at once we received our salads, and main entrees. We asked about the appetizers, but then said just cancel as we didn't want our entree to get cold. Also they must have quit serving bread with the steak dinner, as I looked around and nobody had a bread basket on their table, so I didn't ask about it. The steaks were excellent, as well as the salmon. I would prefer to get my salad prior so I can enjoy that and then have the plate removed before getting the entree. The waitress/server very accommodating and eager to please. read more
