My wife and I stopped in for dinner prior to the Kenny Wayne Shepherd concert being held in the casino. Upon being seated we were warned that the wait times for drinks were 20 minutes and longer for the food to arrive so that was disappointing that they seemingly were short staffed knowing they would be busy for the concert. We ordered the Blackened chicken and one of the burgers. Both were absolutely excellent and I'm not really a fan of fries but they were about as good as I've ever had. There is a beautiful outdoor seating area and the main dining rooms atmosphere is really something. Next time we are in Sioux City we would love to give Main & Abbey another shot. read more

I Dined here solo on Halloween night, while on a business trip. I walked downstairs from my room with no reservation, and was greeted and seated quickly. I decided on starting with their Caesar salad, and my main entree was the New York steak and a loaded baked potato. Kept my drink setup fairly simple with a nitro vanilla porter, and an unsweetened iced tea. The food was fresh and tasty, my steak cooked to order , and the potato was delicious. 50 years ago I entered my first year of college at The University of South Dakota which is 30 miles from Sioux City, IA. We decided to stay at the Hard Rock Hotel in Sioux City on our way to Omaha. Their top restaurant is the Main + Abbey and a friend recommended it to us & WOW, the food & service was exceptional! For an appetizer, we split an order of BAO, the BBQ pork belly was fantastic! This likely is the best restaurant in Sioux City. The food is creative and tasty, service is very good, and the interior/atmosphere are about as good as you'll get out here. Given that this is on the high-end of local dining options, prices are remarkably low. Here's a detailed run down: 1) Food: the dishes here are a collection of contemporary and somewhat creative takes on american classics like fried chicken. Expect a high calorie count. I ordered there Double Crunch chicken, which comes with a side of garlic mashed potatoes, carrots, and a mushroom gravy. The meal was very heavy, but tasted pretty good. The quality of the chicken was good, sodium wasn't too high, and the meat was boneless (woo hoo). I also had a happy hour appetizer, the Reuben rolls, which were the best part of this meal. They provide you complimentary pretzel bread with honey walnut butter and Dijon mustard, but the pretzel bread could have used more sodium and could have been crunchier. Overall, good food relative to other restaurants in the area. See attached pics. 2) Service: in line with just about every waitress and hostess I've met in Iowa, the staff here were friendly, helpful, and a little folksy (I love that about this part of the country). Both my waitress (Brittany) and hostess had helpful menu recommendations. Food came out promptly. Great! 3) Atmosphere: the crowd is older (50+) and appears Midwestern. The decor is contemporary and dark, with liberal use of wood and brick (like the rest of the Hard Rock). See attached pics. 4) Value: the prices are a nice selling point to this restaurant. We came down to the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino for my Fiancé's birthday for the 3rd year in a row. Over the last three years, we never realized there was one more restaurant tucked into the corner. Boy we sure didn't know what we were missing!!! Our last night here, we visited only to be welcomed by great staff. The dim lights and music made it perfect for any occasion, such as ours, a birthday and a date. Our waitress Melinda was very friendly and knowledgeable. She was very prompt in answering any questions we had and made the experience over the top! She took pictures for us when asked. She went out of her way to make my fiancé's birthday as special as possible!!! She was seriously fantastic! The restaurant itself was very clean. Nice artwork and a very beautiful environment. My fiancé had to sit by the Marilyn Monroe picture since that is her idol. The lit candles were nice. The air inside was perfect. Not too hot or cold. We were in there toward closing, so it wasn't too busy or loud, but I don't believe I would foresee that to be a problem. With it being a unique fine dining atmosphere, I feel the clientele that dine there go there with the same expectations. The food down to even the water was amazing. The water was so nicely chilled, there was no need for ice. The mixed drinks were perfect. We started with a half Caesar salad and I would say it was the best I have had. The dressing wasn't to thick and the salad had such a fresh and great taste. I had ordered the ribeye with lobster came with buttered potatoes and broccolini. My woman had the NY Strip with Lobster with buttered potatoes and Broccolini. The steaks were medium rare as I ordered and was so beautifully cooked. The taste alone was the best we had ever had. To cut into the steak was equivalent to slicing into butter. Chewing it couldn't have came any easier. The lobster with a little char was the best lobster and we are big fans of red lobster. Such great fresh taste with a beautiful dish of melted butter. Fluffy tasty buttered potatoes and flavorful amazing broccolini. I can not get over how good the food truly was!!! It was mind blowing and with that taste you can understand why the price. To end our meal, my fiancé was given a special treat for her birthday. A Chocolate Torte! The presentation was much more than expected. The almond bark was an awesome touch with gold painted blackberries and white chocolate chips and a beautiful chocolate plate decor. The Torte was fresh and tasteful as it melts in your mouth. I again can't get over the taste and amazing experience we had. I was not expecting a 5 star experience. I read reviews and I struggle because people complain about things that are irrelevant to the restaurant and what is out of their control. Everybody is a critic and for a restaurant located in Iowa, this is by far a 5 Star restaurant. You wont get this unless you go to the coasts. The lobster to be so fresh and tasteful. Based off the positive reviews, we tried this place for lunch on our way through Sioux City; it was so-so. While we were seated right away (seat yourself-open seating), it took quite a while for menus and the drink order. We asked for a couple minutes to look over the menu - should have kept the waitress there; took a while for her to return. Once ordered, our food came out rather quickly, but alas.... it too was not what we completely ordered. It took a while for the server to return, this was even after we asked for dressing for the BLT's. Hubby gave up and started eating his and that's when we realized that the sandwich wasn't as ordered. I assume it was the manager that brought my meal back out to me with the added ingredients and his apologies. The atmosphere was appealing and quiet and the restaurant was nice and clean. Our visit was just before lunch, but never really noticed a "crowd" even later on that would warrant the slow service. When we received the check, we were pleased to see that we were not charged the "up charge" for the added avocado, but it would have been nice for the server to communicate it to us. We've been coming to this restaurant for 4 years around the same time every year to kick off my family's Christmas. They change the menu every year ... this years menu was just ok. I ordered a shrimp cocktail that was supposed to have jumbo shrimp ... priced at 14 dollars. I received 4 average sized shrimp on a bed of ice with enough dipping sauce for 20 shrimp. In comparison my husband ordered a huge cheeseburger for 15 dollars that came with a side of fries. My sister ordered a strange carbonara that she sent back and my French onion soup was made with too much white wine. The service was slow and chef was slower. By the time my sister got her food everyone was done and ready to leave. Gratuity was already added. A manager never came over after our table had multiple issues. The last couple of times we have dined here, its been less than perfect. A few weeks ago we waited forever to get served our food, and they wasn't that busy. Last night we waited again, but wasn't in a hurry so we were happy to visit with our friends. We had ordered appetizers, but to our surprise, all at once we received our salads, and main entrees. We asked about the appetizers, but then said just cancel as we didn't want our entree to get cold. Also they must have quit serving bread with the steak dinner, as I looked around and nobody had a bread basket on their table, so I didn't ask about it. The steaks were excellent, as well as the salmon. I would prefer to get my salad prior so I can enjoy that and then have the plate removed before getting the entree. Main + Abbey has a great menu each time we go. We were thrilled to see a sign that M+A was open for lunch on Monday and so we ate on the outdoor patio. Very nice, nice service, great food. I had a Lobster Roll with homemade chips along with a dirty Martini. Family was very pleased with their orders too. It is a treat for us conasuers to have a place with a quality menu.
