But a new installation? weekend emergency? answer the phone on Sunday? Here's how this situation worked out. I was to leave town for the holidays and decided to check my house for problems, one of which has been my ancient hot water heater. This was an incredible 35 years old, qualifying for the some kind of world record. Sure enough, water was leaking onto the floor. And on Sunday afternoon. So I left a message and wrote an email. Within an hour or so Helene responded that the owner, Neil, would come the next morning. Neil was on schedule and offered to try to fix the leak, but it was due to an old fitting that might result in a bigger leak, and anyway replacement was overdue. One reason I'd postponed this for so long was I knew the job wouldn't be easy. The unit was jammed into a very small utility closet next to the HVAC. Neil gave me a very reasonable estimate, I could leave and the repair would be done in two days. As it turned out, the person I was to visit developed Covid. So I got to see Alix and Daniel do the work. It was not an easy job, many connections were outdated and needed to be brought to current code. The new unit is better insulated than the old so it was larger as well. Plus the old unit weighed a ton due to years of mineral deposits in the tank. But these guys made it happen. I got a cash discount but had to run around and get that large amount by the next day. It still seemed a bit expensive but I know prices keep going up. The only issue I had was not being able to get service / flushing for my hot water heater because it's a tankless version they were unfamiliar with. While not the cheapest bid I felt Jim Kelly planned out our project with great knowledge for HVAC installing. Ours was a big job. We needed a complete changeover of all equipment. We chose a Daikin 5 ton air handler, Daikin 5 ton heat pump, all new sheet metal boots and ducting to each 11 registers .
