I mean.. it's not that bad. It's more of an Americanized Japanese restaurant. It's located in the plaza with Whole Foods, Gap, Pluto's, etc. There is a parking lot in the back of the complex that you have to enter D street, but it's pretty big, so there's usually no problem with parking there. I would stick with just the sashimi and sushi because it's hard to mess up raw fish. Once, my dad ordered the udon and it literally tasted like those instant udon packs and he didn't even finish it. The sashimi, however, is very fresh. I always order the sashimi and have never been disappointed of the quality of it! :) It's a very trendy-looking restaurant and would be a really cute date night place hehe. read more

This is one of my favorite sushi places in Davis. They don't have the buffets like a lot of sushi places have in Davis, but that is okay! Who needs a copious amount of sushi anyways? My favorite roll is the zig zag roll! It is full of yumminess. Basically any roll on the menu is good to go. I tried their teriyaki chicken. Also pretty tasty! Their alcoholic drinks are also pretty yummy! In conclusion, if you want good sushi come here. The quality is so much better. During lunch this place is super busy, service might be slow! read more

Best. Sushi. Ever! My family and I wanted to go to a sushi place- not too fancy or too casual, and this was the perfect place. The rolls were all equally amazing, and service was great. All the rolls were cut very thin which I prefer in sushi, and it didn't fall apart easily which made it easy to eat (and yummy of course)! Also, I'm not a fan of udon soup so I was a bit skeptical but I became a fan quickly at my first bite. They were very generous with their noodles! It was very busy since it was Mother's Day, but they were fairly quick with our orders which I appreciated. I wish I remembered the name of our waitress because she was so sweet! My girlfriend and I stopped by Mikuni Japanese Restaurant & Sushi bar after a great day of shopping in Vacaville CA. There was a 30min wait but it went by quick. We were seated and waited on by a wonderful young lady named Yvonne( hope I'm spelling her name right). Mikuni sushi is pretty good and fresh. Although the food is pretty pricey but it is worth it, sometimes they have really good deals so it won't be that bad. The california roll and the spicy tuna was pretty good. Like the seafood udon, it is perfect for cold weather. They have a large selection of Japanese food, not only did they have their specialty of rolls but they also a variety of bento boxes and other hot food. Overall their service is pretty nice, but sometimes when it gets busy they would forget about you. If they do, they would kindly ask if you like a complementary soup. Their menu is very friendly, as it even has vegetarian and non-raw options labeled. I went with 2 other people, and we were seated pretty quickly even though it was a busy Saturday night. We ended up ordering: --Veg-ten roll (tempura vegetables) --Fresh Roll (I like how it came with ponzu) --California Two Roll --Fair Oaks Roll, as recommended by people on Yelp All of them were really good. Getting four rolls for three small-ish people is a great idea; we were satisfied but not stuffed (and still had room for dessert). I think my favorites were the Fair Oaks Roll and the Veg-ten Roll (the tempura carrots on top were sooo good). The Fresh Roll tasted the healthiest though, and not in a bad way! This is my favorite place for sushi in Davis! I've been here multiple times but this is my first time writing a review. It's not the best sushi I've ever had but it's great compared to everything else I've tried nearby. As a college student, this place can get a bit expensive but I don't mind coming here once in a while for sushi and drinks. I definitely recommend coming for happy hour for appetizers, hand rolls, and sushi rolls. I've also had the $45 for two which is a four-course meal and you choose an appetizer, an entree, two rolls, and dessert. My favorite entree is the musolino pasta - it was unique and really delicious! My favorite rolls are the zig zag soft shell crab and fair oaks roll. The zig zag shrimp and spicy salmon hand rolls are also good. If you come for lunch, I recommend getting the sushi illustrated combo. It comes with half zig zag shrimp roll, fair oaks roll, and half of the spicy dream 2 for about $16. I tried their new margarita pitcher and it was a huge pitcher for $22! I've also had their dragon berry mojito pitcher and it was $24. The drinks were great and strong, just how I like it. read more

It was a Wednesday evening and both the inside and patio were packed when we left. The service was very friendly and the happy hour prices were great. The food was tasty but the sushi slices were on the thinner side. They had a good variety of food on the menu if sushi isn't your thing. Ordered beef teriyaki, udon, and three sushi rolls. beef was a little dry, udon was okay for flavor and the sushi rolls were also okay for flavor. our sushi order had two standard sushi rolls and a $25 chef special. When the sushi rolls arrived I though I though my order was incomplete as both sushi plates look to have 8 seperate pieces each. after a more detailed review the sushi on one plate had the two standard rolls with the 8 pieces on each arranged as 4 sections. the overall length of a standard sushi roll appears to be about half the length of other sushi restaurants. if you look at the main menu there are pictures of sushi rolls on various platters but no pictures of a given menu item so you cannot determine size by appearance. Food is good, but the place thing about this place is the beautiful outdoor patio or trendy bar-like interior. The next best thing about Mikuni is the service - the waitress was SO friendly, sweet, and kind - I wanted to be her friend! She was a real doll. The food is great here. Not super authentic or anything, but really fresh and tasty! I had the Bento Box with veggie tempura (yum!), salad and rice (yum!), and chicken tempura (a little rubbery and fatty, if I'm being honest......... But not terrible). We decided to try this place based on a coworkers suggestion and I absolutely love it . Here is my breakdown of my experience . We ordered 1 appetizer and 3 rolls. Appetizer: Puff Daddy The presentation was great and the taste was absolutely delightful - imagine soft , flaky , and crisp on the outside while seafood delight ( creamy ) on the inside Roll 1 : Zig Zag Soft Shell Crab Roll This roll has a deep fried soft shell crab. The soft shell crab was fried a little too crispy and the pink wrapper was already falling apart before my chop sticks touched it . We ate it but defiantly not my best sushi Roll 2: Carmen Roll Absolutely delightful !!! The rice was nice and fluffy on the outside and the lobster was fried just enough to that you got crispy, flavor, and juiciness Roll 3: Fair Oaks Roll Rice on the outside was amazing . This was ok - I wish we went with a raw sushi option at this point because we were tapped out on anything fried . You gotta love the small town feel of a city like Davis. The people range from hipster, nerdy, uppity and sweet yet short. Somehow they've managed to secure one of the biggest chain of sushi restaurants known to Northern California. Don't ask me how they did it, just ask me how it tastes. First off, parking here sucks on Friday and Saturday nights. Located in a small shopping center, Mikuni's is neighbors with a Whole Foods (yes an actual Whole Foods) Gap (yes that Gap) and some pizza spot that actually looks like a cool spot to eat pie at. The long walk I was forced to make proved to be a good idea however unintentional it was because I was stuffed like a deep fried mushroom after leaving here. The decor and ambience here is super inviting. From families, young couples beginning that treacherous journey called love, and an old man who was forced to go to dinner alone because his wife was sick everyone was having fun. Chopsticks were chopping, rolls were being rolled and Sapporo was a sipping. I was supposed to reserve a table for a group of 5 for my coworkers and I. I say supposed to because I forgot. Memory ain't what it used to be and the weed doesn't help. So upon finding out 'reservations aren't allowed the day of' I jetted down there after work and was forced to wait it out. 45 min later the table was ready and I didn't look like a complete moron, pulling up to the bar while we waited helped. Finally our table inside was ready! The dragon roll was my favorite. Tasted like when you hit all green lights on a Friday after an easy day of work. Ordered a huge platter of variety rolls for a cool $75. Money ain't a thing, sike. Glad we split the exorbitant bill because life. Someone at the table got this dish that had noodles and shrimp in it, nobody cared for the noodles in it. The deep fried mushrooms were the highlight till the rolls pulled up and introduced themselves. There's a reason why Mikuni's is a staple for great sushi, I didn't expect any different. But one thing I was not expecting was such great service from all the staff here. Super attentive and nice. It really made the whole dining experience one to remember.
