So good!! we love davis and tried this new spot a few days ago. we got salmon nigiri, fresh roll and jerrys roll. also got the garlicky edamame and puff daddy. everything was so good and the service was nice and fast. Highly recommend this sushi spot if you're in davis! read more

Our family stopped by last week for a birthday dinner. Very busy on a Friday night and so a 45 minute wait. This is the sixth Mikuni I have visited and it's the smallest. They have an outdoor patio with seating as well, but the interior was pretty small. Fortunately it was a comfortable evening and they have plenty of seating outside while waiting for a table. After being seated, service was friendly and efficient. Food was good and everyone seemed to enjoy. Had the $45 dinner for two with the Mrs. BBQ tuna was tasty, although the pieces seemed a bit small. The sauce it comes with is delicious. Rolls were very good. I think our sesame chicken was a bit overcooked. The chicken was a bit dry. We split the chocolate lava cake. Had just a bite and it was yummy. Overall a solid four star experience. read more

If you go there in the evening, when it's busy, you a very likely to get what I would say is a good meal. However, I would definitely not recommend going there for lunch and having one of there specials. I say this because I've gotten sick after eating their lunch specials on three separate occasions. I know, I know... why would you go back after getting sick there the first time?! Well, for me it was because their dinner services had been really good. So, I went back all of those times thinking their serving spoiled fish was a fluke of sorts. However, the last illness was the worst and its unlikely I will ever return. read more

The customer service at Mikuni's is second to none!!! We frequent there often sometimes as much as once a week and we've never been let down. This type of service comes from the top down. Managment (specifically Kylie!) here should be recognized for their attention to making the customer service experience at Mikunis perfection! This will always be my restaurant of choice! read more

Awful. I took my boyfriend here for his birthday dinner; it was his first "fancy" sushi experience. Unfortunately, two hours later he was experiencing severe food poisoning. I joined him a couple hours later. It has taken us two days to recover (over Christmas Eve & Christmas Day). We went to ask for a refund/compensation, but ended up with a manager telling us it takes "usually 24 hours" for food to digest and started questioning the rest of what we ate for the day (it was clearly their sushi, we had never been before and we hadn't eaten much else earlier. Also food doesn't take 24 hours to digest ??). She offered to mail us a $25 voucher in the mail. Wasn't planning on returning, but after how they handled the food poisoning, I'm making sure everyone I know understands what they have to offer. EDIT: after going back again, we got a refund (they kept the tip, I guess that's alright). Still a terrible experience, so I'm keeping the rating as is. read more

I have been coming to Mikuni for years, and have probably tried almost all their menu items. The best meal deal aside from their happy hour is the $45 for two deal. You get appetizers, a couple of rolls, and dessert. You really can't beat that. The fish is always fresh and there's never been a time where it wasn't. I also believe the Davis Mikuni location is the best one out of all the ones located around Sacramento. So ditch all those other sushi places in Davis and just stop by Mikuni for you it sushi fix. read more

Food is amazing, just wish they had an "all you can eat" option. Warning, this food can become pricy though.

I've been to this place two times. The first time was in Sac by Arden mall, horrible food. The second time I picked up the food (in davis) and my children who love sushi would not eat it after trying one piece. I admit it was terrible. I don't know how this place stays in business. For the prices and what not you would expect it to be way better. If you want good sushi I suggest you go to Kru! That's the best place in Sac If you ask me. read more

I used to go almost every weekend in 2019 and 2020 until the pandemic. The food is still terrific, but after the pandemic, it gets so expansive. For example, the bento box used to cost $14.95, now it is $18.5 - $19.5, and they cancel a lot of choices such as oyaka-don, tonkotsu ramen and miso ramen. The service does not seem as well as before as well. It is just not the place that I recognize anymore. read more

Ever since I've moved to Davis, Mikuni has always been the go to sushi spot for my friends, family and I. They have a huge selection of sushi and it is always fresh and made to order. I've also been to three other Mikuni locations (Arden, DT sac, Fair Oaks) but the service you receive at this location has always been above average and the servers and managers here always find a way to make you feel welcome and at home. My sister and I dropped by here with no expectations--we were just hungry and stumbled into this shopping center. Freaking delicious. For one, when I'm out eating, I expect good service. Mikuni delivered. My water was kept full, my server checked on us throughout our meal, and I had no need to wave him down. The food--impeccable. We were there for lunch and I got the speed racer hand roll combo. I highly recommend this combo. The Shrimp Zig Zag was my favorite. At $14 for three hand rolls, why not? The Spicy Tuna and Mikey rolls were good too, but the Shrimp Zig Zag was the best roll I've had in a while. It was just scrumptious; the sauce in there elevated a simple shrimp tempura roll. Definitely worth a try if you're in the area! read more

Highly recommend their happy hour during the week! Tried their spicy tuna hand roll, Mikey roll, and zig zag hand roll. The zig zag roll was one of the BEST rolls I've had in a long time. Let's just put it this way. Quality of the food is good. Hence why the price is higher than other restaurants. Quantity is very low. You don't get much food at all. I left hungry from the restaurant. got our meal to-go. time estimate of 20 minutes was true even though we ordered about 6 rolls and a non-sushi dish/bowl. the fish tasted fresh and had a tender texture. i had the japanese mafia which was particularly good, i liked it more than the other roll i got (fresh roll). the speciality rolls like the japanese mafia do have a lot going on so they have a fish flavor so it was nice to have it with the simpler, fresh roll. worth the price! read more

Delicious every time. I recently tried the happy hour here after many years of ordering the bento box lunch special (also delicious) and man it was a game changer. New to the area and Yelp led us in the right direction! We went here for the first time and had the best experience. We came in and sat at the sushi bar. Our server By the name Viet (I hope I got that right) was so patient as we scroll through the menu trying to decide what we wanted. We decided to order some sake and they were very knowledgeable in understanding of what we were looking for (since we are not sake connoisseurs but know the style we like). Mike the bar manager asked if we had any questions and we mentioned we were open to trying something he suggested. He immediately asked if we had any aversions to any specific seafood. He then ordered us a few amazing dishes! 1) Black & White - 5 stars! 2) Tasmanian - 5 stars! 3) BBQ 3 piece - 5 stars! Wonderful recommendations and will definitely order each of these again. We also spoke with Chef Rob and he was so hospitable and friendly. We ended up ordering the Wagyu beef dish/app which was another excellent recommendation. Overall, Viet, Mike & Rob made this one of the best dining experiences we have had in a long time. We can't wait to come back! read more

Good sushi, nothing spectacular so the price is a little high. The birthday wheel is fun.

Nice wait staff. But no dinner bento box, chicken katsu had a thick hard cornmeal batter, portions a bit small, rice was tough. Food came out for kids about 15 minutes before the adults. This location not up to the standard of other mikuni I've tried. But again, the wait staff were really nice and the bathroom sink is cool so 3 stars rather than 2.5. read more

As we stepped inside, I can see all the waiters smiling n looking happy to work! This is wat I love the most! Great service wich is why I am sad not giving them 4 stars. The reason is bc one of the fish (white fish) they served me wich also happen to be one of their most popular dish were not fresh. You can zoom in the pic I took, it has a discoloration color...absolutely no bueno! Not only the discoloration proves it, but also gave me an allergic reaction....I broke out in mild rashes on my skin n it made me so dam itchy. I became a monkey scatching my head n face all day. I eat sushi all the time n never experienced this. I'm very positive it was the fish bc I am not allergic to nothing else other then seafood tat are not fresh. Another thing tat bothers me is that there were several HUGE flies, definitely not miniture fruit flies tat attacked us. Made me feel worried if it landed on the fish while the chef preparing food. The uni sashimi was the best, very fresh, but priced at $22 for the same portion as the 2 piece uni nigiri that was $10 did not make any sense. read more

I love how Monday nights happy hour is from 4:30- closing. Can't get any better than that! Ever since mikuni opened up in davis, my friends and i have been coming here regularly for happy hour. Mikuni is definitely one of the best Japanese restaurants I've gone to to get nigiri and sushi rolls. I wouldnt suggest getting anything else here other than sushi. This place is a bit too pricey for rice bowls or bentos. This place is pricey in general, but you get what you pay for. Their sashimi is very fresh and well cut. They dont stuff your nigiris and sushi rolls with rice, very generous on the raw ingredients. I recommend the following: * Chirashi donburi $20 * Japanese Mafia rolls $14 * Incredible rolls $14 * any selections of their nigiri $5/2pc Ambience can be quite loud at night because they have a bar area, plenty of seatings, nice outside patio too. There is a private parking lot, so parking is not a problem and if its your birthday, bring your id and you get to spin the wheel fortune! Cheers! read more

Amazing food and service and drinks. Always the freshest ingredients and a great place to bring people out.

Don't get me wrong, I LOVE Mikuni's Restaurant and everyone there! They treat me well, pour me water, and make sure everything is A-OK! But, I'm just disappointed on one thing: Mikuni's New Late Night Thursday Menu, which closes at midnight. Here are the reasons why I'm disappointed and some suggestion to make it a little better, if and only if they choose to take my points. (1) Grilled Skewers: we ordered Gyu (filet mignon skewer) and Kamo (duck). Both priced $2.50 each. This was really good, very soft meat, wasn't over cooked and perfect flavor; however, the flaws are: firstly, it came out COLD; and secondly, it came in ONE skewer. A few suggestions, instead of have just one skewer on a huge plate cut them in smaller size and put toothpick on it, so the dish looks a little more. 2 stars. (2) Small plates: we ordered the Freaky Edamame - 5 stars! Full, salty, and spicy in flavor - perfect! (3) Drinks: we ordered the (i) sparkling acai and (ii) Mason Jar. Firstly, the sparkling acai, my friend didn't like it because it wasn't cold and strong alcohol flavor. So, in my friend's part, she rated it a 2 star. Secondly, the mason jar was pretty cool. It came in a jar with cucumbers and mint. We had to shake it so the alcohol will mix with the sweets - I like it because I felt like a bartender. 4 stars. **OVERALL: Wasn't too impressed by their food menu, but they got it for the drinks. An over all two stars. read more

I've heard nothing but good things about Mikuni but, unfortunately, I wasn't too impressed. Mikuni is a chain restaurant that's all over Sacramento. They have a decent Happy Hour menu, which was my main reason for stopping by after a long day of walking around UCD. I stopped by right when they opened, which was when Happy Hour started (4:30 - 6:00 I believe). They have a pretty large selection to choose from on their Happy Hour menu. The Puff Daddy roll was the only one that really stood out to me because it was stuffed with artifical crab meat. I tried the spicy tuna roll and some other rolls that were too average to remember. The drinks were decent too. Service was ok... we did have to flag down the waitress a couple of times to get what we wanted but nothing to complain about. Overall, a pricey place to grab some sushi unless you stop by for Happy Hour. If you're looking for quantity, you're better off at one of the nearby sushi buffets. I must say, though, that the quality is a step up from the sushi at the buffets. read more

I've been here a few times and get a fairly consistent experience. The service is nice. The decor is ok and the restaurant is clean. The food is pretty good. Not mind blowing "the fish is so fresh it melts in mouth like butter" kinda thing. The rolls have a LOT of sauce on it typically which is not my favorite but a lot of people like it. Any of the rice bowls are, again, ok. Good flavor but a loooot of rice (about 2/3 to 3/4 rice to meat and veggie ratio). They have some specials on monitors and other adult beverages which taste good but are low on alcohol content (small pour). It might be worth it to come for a your birthday since they have a giveaway! They do check ID though so be sure it's either day of or two days before/after. Would I come here again? Meh. It's ok. Maybe for another birthday for free stuff but for Japanese food I'll stick to Huku or banzai. read more

Everything about this place is great....except the food. The food is just mediocre. They don't take reservations and they don't do cal aheads. So your only option is to show up, put your name in and wait...and wait...and wait. I'm talking 45 minutes plus. The wait staff are all very friendly. Love the ambiance, very modern. Menu has some nice choices. But the sushi just isn't up to par. And to top it off it's way overpriced. There are sooo many good sushi restaurants in the area and I honestly don't think I'll ever go back to mikuni. Overpriced mediocre food that I had to wait an hour to eat, just isn't my thing. Sorry mikuni, you definitely didn't live up to the hype! read more

The prices here are definitely not on point for what their menu primarily consists of - which is your usual fare of overly-sauced and inauthentic Japanese food amongst a loud, modern setting. Their happy hour ($3 handrolls, $4 nigiri, $5 rolls, and about 15+ other small plates at discounted prices) and $40 set (the menu states for 2 - but is very shareable amongst 3 or even 4 for a lighter meal) is a great deal, though. Pick two appetizers, two entrees, and one dessert, I believe. Otherwise . . . eh. read more

Mikuni is always a reliable place to go for sushi. There is a huge selection of specialty rolls and sashimi dishes, so you can't really go wrong with what you order. The price is a little high, but the atmosphere is always fun. These are my favorite dishes to get: -Shooters!! -Seared albacore tuna -Flaming shrooms -Black and white Hamachi I loooove the shooters here. You can get oyster, scallop, or uni in the shooter, which also has a quail egg, ponzu, sake, and a little hot sauce. I love this stuff so much that I used to jokingly tell my friends that I wanted an entire bowl of their oyster shooters all to myself. Well, that is what my friends ended up ordering me for my birthday, and needless to say, I no longer wish that I had an entire bowl of it. One scallop shooter per visit is still a must tho. The albacore tuna would probably be my favorite dish here. It is an appetizer, but I could definitely eat this as my entre. The pieces of albacore are a good size and are seared very nicely each time I order it. I always get it with the red sauce, which is a little spicy and sweet. Their flaming shrooms is another really good appetizer, especially those who may not like raw fish. They are stuffed with cream cheese, imitation crab, a jalapeno slice, and then deep-fried. What's not to like? I also really like their Black and White special dish, which is Hamachi sashimi topped with ponzu sauce, tobiko, and jalapeno slices. The tangy ponzu, spicy jalapeno, and buttery Hamachi make for a very tasty bite. Their rolls are always good too, but I can't really remember the difference between all of them because they come smothered in sauces. They are all good, but I just prefer simpler flavors when it comes to eating Japanese food. Also, give their specials a try. I've ordered a few items from the seasonal/special menu, and have been pleased every time. read more
