When they quoted me a jaw-dropping $400 for handle replacements, I nearly choked on my avocado toast.Why shell out that much when the bag itself cost me $750 back in the day? And the repair time typically range from 12 to 26 weeks!!!! Time to shop around. Here's what I found: * Leather Spa 55 (NYC): $200 per handle. * Rago Brothers (NJ): Two new handles for around $395, or repairing one at the base for about $125. Basically, not much better than LV's offer. Just when I was about to resign myself to a life of broken bag straps, I stumbled upon rave reviews for Mr. Maksoud's Handbags & Shoe Repair. Words like "reasonable," "quick," and "great job" were being thrown around. Intrigued, I decided to give it a shot. Mr. Maksoud did not disappoint. He quoted me $200 for both handles, but since I brought my own leather handles from Etsy (because I'm resourceful like that), he only charged me $50. UPDATE: Because I very, very badly wanted to avoid having to take Leather Spa to small claims court…read more- which should not be necessary and wastes everyone's time - I agreed to send them back for stretching despite having been adamant from the start about not wanting the boots stretched. What other choice did they leave me after cutting them too small to fit? Well... they gave me zero updates throughout the process and didn't return them until I followed up which seemed to magically happen at the exact moment they were ready. In all likelihood they'd been ready but they didn't want me to see what they did this time, and they were right to feel that way. The boots are now next level destroyed. The leather is scuffed and worn out all over the place to the point where there is a very, very obvious difference between the leather at the foot of the boot and the leather at the shaft which looks like it was beaten with a mallet. But that's not it! They're still two different sizes and still have crooked seams. I've sent photos and multiple messages and no one has even acknowledged me since they returned the boots like that. These are absolute scumbags who know what they did, won't take accountability, won't respond, and won't even credit me for the $318 I paid for them to ruin beyond repair boots that were $1,995 plus tax brought to them in brand new condition. Just scheduled time off from work to go to the court and file a small claim and I am FUMING that I need to do this. I sincerely hope this company goes out of business. You can see from the reviews here how little they care about the work they do to high value and often irreplaceable items and there is no room in this great city or anywhere for a business like that.
