I bought my house almost two years ago, and I knew it had been empty for almost a year, so I decided it was past time to have the heating system inspected and serviced. I was very lucky to find a good sized, reputable firm in Candler, close to where I was. Contacting them and scheduling a service was very easy, they were able to send a tech out the next week. Greg was very knowledgeable and capable. I really didn't know much about the system I had, I had only changed filters in the basement quarterly. As it turns out, I had second furnace that I didn't know about up in the attic to heat the second floor. And THAT filter was nasty, guessing it almost never got changed. Greg was in and out in a couple of hours, everything is running great, and I've already noticed the improvement in the air quality upstairs. Great service at a fair price, highly recommended. My furnace went from sporadically working to not working at all. I called Mike's Heating & Cooling because they had installed it in 2002 and provided maintenance since then. The technician said that my inducer motor had failed and recommended replacing the furnace due to its age. They emailed me an estimate of $1872.50 to replace the inducer motor. I got a second opinion: turns out the inducer motor was finefine and it was a clogged port for the pressure switch that was the problem. Cleaned it out with an Allen wrench and the furnace is running again. They would have charged me all that money, and my furnace would still be broken .... just sayin' read more

My only beef is that the job ended up taking 2 hours 0840-1040 and didn't require new parts but cost $2518.00. Somehow I thought it would be much more involved than it turned out to be. Plumbers, lawyers, and many other professionals would be envious of that hourly rate! In retrospect, should have done my homework and got other bids--- that's on me. Our Air Conditioning stopped working two nights ago. The circuit breakers were OK, but I had no reading on the thermostat. Not knowing Mike's has a technician on-call 24/7, I waited until the next morning to call. The lady who answered checked the schedule and said they would have a technician available after 12:30 that day. At 1:57 I received a call from J.T. who said he was on the way and would be there in 20 to 30 minutes. When he arrived, he determined that the problem was a malfunctioning condensate pump. He blew out debris from the condensate line, took the pump apart and cleaned it but found it would still not function. He drove back to get a new one from his office which he then installed and tested the system. He was very pleasant, competent and patient in answering all my questions and was very conscientious in cleaning up. Mike's Heating and Cooling originally installed the system for the previous owners. When we moved in 3 1/2 years ago I chose them to check the system because I found their name and number decal on the furnace. Since that time on the few times we have called them to check the system or correct a problem we have found them to be very competent and responsive and their prices have always been reasonable. read more

My experience with Mikes Heating and Cooling has been horrible from the beginning. They basically installed a faulty system in my home. Which has required 6 emergency calls since August of 2022. Even during the install, on the last day after they left the ac stopped working and we had to have them back to address the issue. Clearly we should have know from day one that the installation was sub par. Fast forward to Christmas Day. No heat! Again! We were fortunate to have someone from Haynes come out and fix the problem at our expense. Mikes refused to come because our service agreement expired. An agreement we had no idea expired nor ever received a renewal for. Run don't walk away from this company. There are more reputable and reliable service provides in Asheville. read more

We have had issues with our HCS system from the time we moved into our condo about 4 years ago. Mike's heating and cooling have always done an outstanding job. I have a saying, you don't know how good someone is until there is a problem. With a faulty system, that's at least 10 years old there is always something going wrong. the few times we have had issues, they were promptly taken care of. There is one issue that needs to be resolved. It may or may not be their fault but until we can put a whole in a wall which we will do after the first of the year we don't know if it's an A/C issue or a construction issue. read more

I have used this company for several years now. We have had great service but it was finally time to get a couple of new units. Billy did a great job of thoroughly looking at space before giving us a quote, he ended up sending it that night. Billy made himself available for all of our questions concerning SEER and one speed vs. two speed. When we went ahead with the contract, Stephanie helped us with payments, financing and rebates. Shopped around for about a month in fall of 2017 for complete new HVAC system. Decided on the Trane XV 18 system due to the long term energy savings, Mike's heating and cooling won our decision for the purchase. That was a mistake and is a nightmare. After having the system installed we went through two thermostats in the first month, no big deal Mikes owned it and was prompt in fixing. Then around month 4 our system kept shutting down with the thermostat screen indicating several trouble codes. Mike's came out several times and spent several hours on the phone with Trane, but the issue kept occurring without any explanation. I finally called and asked to speak with the owner since this system was a $10,000 purchase. The owner promised to resolve the issue and send me a detailed work order for every service call since the install. I never received the work orders, though the issue was eventually resolved. The problem ended up being the thermostat wiring which was not replaced during the install of the new system, though the contract called for new wires. Now we're around month 14 with the new system and the thermostat is malfunctioning again. The thermostat is set to heat at 65 degrees but is still running 80ish percent capacity at 70-75 degrees, we have to manually shut it down. My power bill has doubled the last two months. Mike's said we needed to reboot the system and they would send a tech out. We rebooted the system and the tech came out but had the wrong software as there records indicated we had a different system, the tech advised the scheduler would contact me to set up a new time later that day. Over a week later I had to call them and schedule a service date. They said they had been trying to get ahold of me but I hadn't received any calls, voicemails, or emails. I wouldn't recommend purchasing or getting service from Mike's unless you want to waste time and money. I hope this review helps prevent this experience for anyone in the future. read more

After I read a review from 2019, where a customer had a lot of problems with their AC installed by Mike's Heating and Air, I had to make some comments too. I purchased a system in 2009, the best they had. they also installed the ductwork. At that time I paid close to 12000 dollars. In the first six years I had problems with this TRANE unit. Two compressors were exchanged, the water pump, something with a computer part and so on. On the last occasion I called Trane myself and wanted got sue them. They convinced me to try it one more time with the comment (friendly) "Now almost everything is exchanged, I almost have a new unit" . So I tired it, and since then I have NO problems anymore. The maintenance always worked well until the last two years. same as other people telling, no response. When I bought the unit until about 2016 the team was excellent, they wanted to please the customer. Then the business got sold and it went downhill. Only one comment to add: A friend of mine also bought a different AC from a different dealer in TN, they were told, when a unit has so many problems like mine had, it might be an installation mistake. Evidently the installation is the most important part of getting a new unit. I will keep mine now until it falls apart, it finally runs perfect energyefficient, even the Thermostat is not always right. I got used to it. read more

Work went good overall, professionally installed and all looks great,,,,, But one MAJOR problem, our unit is in an attic storage area. And after the job was complete I noticed items were missing from a shelf, I had put items on the shelf prior to the work/job to get them out of the way, so I was fully aware of what was there. I contacted the company and the owners listened to me and promptly questioned the employees..... they do background checks. It is a highly unfortunate situation where an individual took advantage/took an opportunity to take items from our home during the job performed on our home. I do state it was an individual and not reflective of the company as a whole. I hope that no other customers are taken advantage of by the individual responsible. I will forever follow every worker everywhere every minute and recommend that other customers do the same. read more

Have only had contact with this company twice due to a faulty AC in this rental. The first time was pleasant and the tech did his job well and was friendly and professional. The second time, when a sales rep stopped by to give an estimate, he balked at my request to wear a mask and shoe covers, very arrogant and rude. When I sent an email to the owner, she never responded. Sad that they are the company picked to install a new unit, just because they gave the lower estimate. I fear the owner will regret that decision but that is her problem, not mine. When I finally build my own place, I will NOT use this company. read more

We had 2 heat pumps installed at our home by Mikes Heating and Cooling less than 18 months ago at a cost of approximately $18,000. Since being installed we have had to call the emergency service line either 5 or 6 times because we did not have either heat or a/c. Each time they came out they were able to fix the problem. On Christmas, during the severe cold weather, our heat failed again. We called the emergency number on their website where it said they offered 24 hour a day 365 days per year emergency service. We were told that they only offered emergency service to the people who have a service contract. When we got our units the first years service contract was included in the price. Apparently, our service contract expired and they did not notify us of this so we could renew this plan. The on-call person was able to see that we did formerly have a service contract. Long story short, it was 16 degrees Fahrenheit and the temperature was dropping and we were told that they would not send a technician to service our unit. They had no interest in the fact that we had spent that kind of money less than two years prior and had multiple issues. Mike's has lost a customer, and hopefully this post will dissuade other people from falling victim to poor customer service by Mike's Heating and Cooling. read more

After waiting 24 hours for a callback for a broken AC, I called the shop to ask a second time for a service call and a scheduled maintenance contract. The service department stated they were too busy to accept new clients for either repairs or maintenance contracts. They came out to repair our AC unit, paid $125.00 ,told it was a bad Capatictor? Within 30 min it was not working again. Service came back out, said it was blower and it would be $175.00 to replace , now $300.00 (125.00+175.00) we told them ok, he went to replace, and said he did not have the right fit but would leave the one in place until the other was received. Today, they came out to replace , and after it was done, the service tech told me the charge was close to $400.00 !!!!! I tiold him we were told it was 175$ per the last service person here, and the service charge was waived since it was misdiagnosed on the first visit AND WE ALREADY PAID $125.00. The tech then put the charge at $270.00, close to 100$ over what was told to us,clearly now being overcharged for duplicated work and overcharged for the blower which had a previously agreed charge. I called customer service and spoke with the service manager who said he would look into it. As of this writing , nothing. Obviously they are trying to rip me off and charge what they want. Go elsewhere for your AC Issues, and make sure all is in writing. I am also reporting them to BBB, ANGIES LIST, AND RIP OFF REPORT. AVOID MIKES HEATING AND COOLING. read more

Almost unbelievably incompetent. It took seven visits to get our two HVAC systems finished, and the initial installation (which ended in both units spewing water all over the floor) took 14.5 hours. They would arrive at different times than we had scheduled, and once they even came on the wrong day of the week. They arrived on the correct day next time, but just sat in their truck in our driveway for 20 minutes before leaving without having done anything. Truly bizarre experience working with this company. Bad communication, bad service. Not recommended at all. read more

I called Mikes Heating & Cooling because I wanted an estimate to fix a leak(s) in my air conditioning unit. The service man came out, but never checked to see where the leak was coming from. He said he was going to add nitrogen to find it, but never did. I told him that I've had this problem for a few years. He asked if it was the coil. I said I thought so, but couldn't be sure. He said he'd have someone call to give me an estimate (without knowing for sure where the leak was coming from). The service call was $69.99 and I was also charged $110 for adding refrigerant to the unit outside. I found out from another company that there were actually 2 leaks. I never received a call from Mikes for an estimate. I called and left the service manager a message, and he never called back. I would not recommend them for anything! read more

I have been a customer of this business for about 2 years. Thus far, I have had routine maintenance done on the furnace & air conditioner. I have had no trouble in the technicians showing up as scheduled. Recently, my air conditioner stopped working, so I called for an appointment. Actually making the appointment did not go as smoothly as I expected. The phone was answered by a receptionist who took my request, then I had to wait for a call back by the scheduler. Due to technicians having training on the day I wanted service, I had to wait until the day after this training to be able to have someone come out. It was 85 degrees everyday until I could get service, uncomfortable and unpleasant. That said, David was the name of the technician who came out for the appointment. He was on time, courteous, and professional. He asked me to step outside so that he could show me what the problem was. I was shocked to learn that someone had come by and sabotaged the air conditioners! David made the simple repair. read more

I have been a customer for over 5 years, under their twice a year maintenance agreement which you pay in advance. Everything worked well, until this year. My system should have been serviced in May, but I did not hear from them as I usually did, so I phoned in June and was told the scheduler was no longer doing it, and the soonest I could receive my service would be July 10th about a month wait. On July 10 no one arrived. When I phoned I was told someone had just quit, and no one would arrive, and the next app't. would have to be in the later part of Aug. Since summer would be basically over by them, I told them they breached the contract and I wanted my money back. I was assured this would happen. No refund arrived, so I telephoned back several times asking for at least an email stating I would receive a refund eventually. This never happened either. I doubt I will ever receive an email, much less the promised pro-rated refund. read more
