I went in to get my hood latch cable and ac fixed and also to get transmission fluid refilled. they tried to overcharge me for the hood latch cable and when I went in to get it and take it to another shop I came to the realization that they took my tire off for whatever reason and didn't put the bolts back on tight enough. that resulted in my rim being messed up and the bolts being stripped. that level of incompetence is unacceptable because I could have possibly been fatally hurt or even worse due to that. read more

My old ah car got me into a bit of a predicament. I commute from SA to ATX for work and after half a year of this regular drive, my car did me dirty. I'm new to SA so I don't have a guy for everything yet, I didn't know where to start when deciding on a mechanic- I looked up the closest spot to my flat. My car was almost undrivable so I was looking to go to the closest spot possible- also, knowing my car would need some major love, it was really convenient to have a spot walking distance from my place. Anyway, I call them and immediately am met with patience as I list the symptoms and ask for help. They told me to get it started and bring it down and we'd go from there. From start to finish, they were helpful and patient with me. I told them my financial situation and they helped me figure out how to get the needed work done so I could get driving again. They were very communicative as we diagnosed the issues and were prompt with ordering parts and repairing once we decided on a plan. I was nervous to go to a mechanic I didn't know, because I had such a set budget. Fortunately, they were very forthcoming and transparent and seemed to genuinely want to help me get back on the road with only what was necessary. They also did not condescend me as a woman who only knows the basics about her car nor did they make me feel weird or out of options for having a budget. Will be using them for as long as I'm in SA :) with as lame as car problems are, they made it more bearable with their communication, transparency, and patience. read more

Nearing the end of the month, I called several garages looking for inspection services and was told "they are not working today". Wow, end of the month and not working, huh? I called Mike's Downtown Garage and was invited to come in and that they would take care of the inspection in an "easy" manner. I drove over and was greeted on the front drive, and the whole transaction took 5 minutes to inspect my truck during a busy day in their shop. Need any work downtown? An Inspection? Easy!! Mikes garages is awesome. I took my Mitsubishi Raider to have them see why it will not start after it over heats. I would have to wait 30 minutes and it would start up again. But that gets old when you are trying to run errands all day. I had already taken the truck to 3 other mechanics and they could never find the problem. Kyle the Manager was great to call me with the problem of the truck and the price before they fix it. All the mechanic's at this garage are very knowledgeable. It has been overr 3 months and I have not had any problems with the truck. Mikes Garage is going to be my go to mechanics from now on. read more

DONT GO HERE! It is so overpriced. They charge $110 for an oil change. When asked over the phone for oil change pricing, they tell you $84. That's a lie (and already way too expensive). They add on charges for labor ($20), the oil filter ($10) and if your car holds more than 5 quarts, they charge you extra for that too! In no world should oil alone cost $84, even if it is full synthetic. PLUS, they didn't give me a choice if I wanted full synthetic, which I didn't... I DOUBT THEY EVEN USED FULL SYNTHETIC! I called and asked why I was charged $110 when I was told $84 and they couldn't answer. Such a rip off. I typically prefer to support small businesses over corps like jiffylube, but in this case, SAVE YOUR MONEY AND GO TO JIFFYLUBE! if I could, this would be 0 stars. read more

Everything I feared about taking my car to a random auto service played out during my visit. I came for a simple oil change and left with a $2,200 quote for work that "needed" to be done to my 2009 Altima used for commuting. Trusting their judgement, I came back the following weekend with a special offer I found to get the first part of the work done, my brakes. They replaced my rotors and installed ceramic brake pads for $600, but this time they found a bubble from forming on my tire. I was fortunately able to bring my car to the dealership and get a new tire for free, however when I ran the brake work by the dealership they informed me that for my car I only needed OEM pads and almost certainly not new rotors. This mean this shop got me for about $300 worth of parts and labor. This place has lost my trust and any future business from me. read more

Mike's was the fourth garage I tried on a Saturday morning, and I'd almost given up hope when Garage #3 told me there were 28 cars ahead of me, and I'd have to sit there and wait with the car until it could be seen sometime that *evening.* I needed to get it looked at; the check engine light had reared its ugly head. But Tommy at Mike's said they could take it, so off I went. Let's get the cons out of the way first. I had to wait a few hours, but I can't complain since they were able to work on it on such short notice. And oy, I'm never quite prepared to see the final bill, but I think it could've been a lot worse for a 10+ year old car that is starting to show its age. But the pros! Tommy was friendly and took the time to update me and explain all the work being done on the car as they diagnosed the issues. They also took a look at my passenger side window when I mentioned it was rolling up slowly, and made an easy fix to it. After my long stay, I can confirm that the waiting area is clean and the couches are comfortable. And so far, the car has been running smoothly, so that's a relief. It was a positive experience overall, despite the hit on my wallet. Small fringe benefit: the shop is across the street from the downtown HEB, so you can saunter over and enjoy a beer on their patio while you wait. FYI: This business is sort of confusing. It says Mike's Downtown Garage here, but the signage on the building and the line they use to answer the phone is Ken's Goodyear. read more

Great downtown auto shop! Tommy works the front desk and is friendly and professional. I've been here 4 or 5 times now and had a great experience each time. My wife's car needed a new fuel pump, the mechanic showed her the broken old one, replaced it, and when the new one had issues they replaced it for free without arguing about warranty or haggling over price. Tommy and the mechanics here are friendly, knowledgeable, professional, and helpful. If you need a mechanic this place is the best. read more

I was in San Antonio for a conference. My car started making strange sounds that sounded very serious and the lights on my car started going off. I was looking for the closest garage and thankfully found Mike's. Kyle was extremely helpful and very friendly. I know nothing about cars and he didn't make me feel stupid when I was explaining. I should leave a review since I've been here several times and tell all my friends about this place. Tommy is great, he's always at the desk. I've gotten oil changes and repairs done here. They really work with me to make it the least painless it can be to be without a car. They've dropped me back at my apt so I don't have to wait for work to be done. Convenient location but I was disapointed with the service. I came for a VIR, they told me I had to change my four tires in order to pass, which I believe is true. They then asked me for $1350 for the four, which is a little overpriced but still okay. They offered me a ride back home which is nice. Now, they told me it'd be done in an hour, I came back two hours later to make sure it would be ready and It was not.. I even had to wait an extra hour. When it was finally done, I started my car ready to leave. Just to make sure, I checked the PSI of the four tires on my dashboard... 50 everywhere... when the car recommendation is 35! This is how they lost my trust. I might change my review if I ever go back there and service is better without simple dangerous mistakes like that. read more

While I was visiting from out of town I needed to have some work done to my van. They were able to squeeze me in immediately and appeared to do the work quite well. I did feel like they were trying to sell me some services that I really didn't need. However when I declined the additional work they were fine with it. All in all a nice place for servicing your vehicle. read more
