I has been so long since I have been to a Chinese Buffet but I will say it's great to have one back in Jacksonville and Mikata is doing a lot right and let me tell you at Mikata you will be GOONING! Came in for lunch around 12PM on a weekday and had no probably getting a table. The price for lunch is $13.99 which is pretty good and they have pretty much everything I was looking for: Black Pepper Chicken - One of my favorites Pepper Steak - Which is loaded with steak General Tso's Chicken - best I have had at a buffet Broccoli Chicken Teriyaki Chicken Chicken on a Stick Dumplings BBQ Pork Crab Rangoons - GOONING Eggrolls Spring Rolls Just naming a few of make favorites that I always have to try and at Mikata they are all pretty good and some the best I have had at a Chinese Buffet and don't worry they are refilling all the food very quickly. They also have a Hibachi Station that I had to check out. I went with beef and shrimp for my protein with Lo Mein and veggies. They also have plenty of sauces to add as well. The Hibachi was also very good. The Shrimp were much bigger then what I am used to for buffet Hibachi and the beef was nice and tender. They also have plenty of sushi but I didn't end up getting into that. Got too full too fast. 2nd Time @ Mikata's Restaurant and they didn't disappoint. The buffet choices are extensive and tasty delicious. The Hibachi Grill is equally impressive with both proteins of Shellfish Seafoods and Meats. Eeeeh... the Prey and the Preyed are GREAT abs there's something for EVERY Eater! If you're a vegan, vegetarian and just a foodie of it all your palate want be left unexciting. The corn on the cob Y'all! Sweet Lord is good and buttery. This location was highly recommended as the best buffet in town, but there wasn't really anything to set it apart from any other currently active buffet. I feel like all buffets open strong and then have a quality slump a few months after opening, so maybe I missed their glory days. To their credit, they have a really nice range of shrimp and crawfish options, but almost everything has the heat-lamp baked dryness you expect from a buffet. It's a buffet and it does the job. I didn't hate it, but I don't have to come back. Food was okay. I tried a little of everything. They offer hibachi, sushi, hot foods and desserts. Sushi was my favorite station and the hibachi next. The buffet food was dry, overdone, and sometimes almost beyond edible. A lot of local workers come and get lunch for an affordable price point and a plethora amount of food. Service was fine. I'm not a buffet fan and only went because my husband wanted to try it. The hostesses were very pleasant and seated us immediately. Our server greeted us and promptly brought drinks. The food was good and everything was clean. The staff was frequently freshening up the buffet items. The hibachi table was great. You select your meats,veggies, sauces, seasonings and the chef cooks exactly as you ask. There was also a large selection of sushi. The only negative was the roast beef was overcooked--well done over cooked. I think anyone who likes a great selection of all types of foods would enjoy this. We were down in Jacksonville Easter weekend to do some shopping and decided to find a place to eat while in town. Because we were in the area, this was one of the first spots that hit our radar, and given we hadn't eaten all day, a seafood and sushi buffet seemed like the perfect option before jumping back on the road. As veterans of all you can eat, sushi restaurants across the country, we were pleasantly surprised at the wealth of options offered at Mikata. As a sushi lover, I was especially pleased with the number of rolls, sashimi, and nigiri they offered. This included copious amounts of salmon, tuna fresh crab, and fresh sushi. And one thing I love about cheap sushi in the south east is the fact that you don't get imitation crab, you get real crab, which makes a fresh California roll so much better! And they don't disappoint. They also have multiple options for non sushi, and seafood lovers, including an entire station of what I will call downright fried and dyed American standard fast food, like pizza, fries, steak (which technically was prime rib but looked more like top sirloin), and chicken. I didn't go anywhere near it but I guess there is somebody out there that goes to a sushi and seafood buffet to get buffet steak and potatoes. Service was on point with our waitress checking on the table multiple times and clearing empty plates off at a reasonable pace. Definitely a value for the price, especially given some of the more exotic items they offer, which surprisingly included a raw bar that had a massive amount of large oysters on the halfshell. Definitely something you don't see often in a buffet setting and even so, a bit of a risk, which I gladly took, but noted to myself to grab the oysters, that still had ice cubes sprinkled on top of them to keep them chilled. We stopped in on a Saturday afternoon, so not sure what the dinner crowd looks like. But my guess is there's probably a wait if you get here at peak hours, so I would definitely suggest planning ahead. read more

I've been waiting months to check out this place. I've passed by it several times during lunch and people were waiting outside. We went around 2:30 for a late lunch and were able to get seated immediately. The place is clean and had a good assortment of food. I was able to stop by Mikata Buffet for lunch today. It's been open for a bit, but it always seems super crowded. So I arrived with a friend right at 11:00 and I found out instantly why it's always so crowded. First, they offer a really large selection of Asian and American foods. They even feature muscles, crawfish and sushi. There's an ice cream bar as well. Just massive! Everything I tried was executed well. I especially enjoyed the peanut chicken. Very good. What surprised me is that they had really good Mac and cheese. Service was impeccable. My dirty plate didn't sit on my table for more than 10 seconds. My drink was never empty. I'm gonna start out with how nice the place looked inside! What a transformation from red lobster to this. Very open wide space! I was very disappointed in the sushi bar because I had my heart set on vegetarian sushi however they did not offer that. I'm not 100% sure if the gentleman understood what I was asking about however everything was seafood so I was unable to partake in the sushi. The hibachi bar was nice. The vegetables were extremely fresh and the gentleman who did the preparation was excellent. Kind and professional. He did an outstanding job with my chicken and vegetables! The bar itself is plentiful with a wide variety of items to select, mainly seafood. The beef ribs. I'm sure we're good, but I elected not to try them. The desserts were plentiful to say the least! Very much enjoyed the custard bun felt that was outstanding. The cheesecake was not bad, but I've had better. I went on a Friday at 4:30pmish and honestly this is a great addition to the neighborhood. No waiting since I didnt go at peak. We left around 6 and there was a line outside already. The food was great, considering the amazing price of 18.99 for dinner for adults. Kids are 9.99 (There was a family with a 3 year old at a table near us and I overheard that they still charged them 9.99, just an FYI) Service is good, they're fast with taking plates and I didnt feel uncomfortable or anything. The hibachi is a bit slow. Its good though. The sushi is good, good variety :) but im a salmon sushi gal. Its not the tastiest salmon but its still good for the buffet price. I'm usually not a buffet person as I like quality food made for me to my liking, not for the masses. My sister and I were looking for somewhere for dinner and it was getting late. We stopped by a few other places and lines were long, so we came across this restaurant and figured it would at least have something for everyone. We walked in and even though there were people waiting and the restaurant was very busy, we were seated right away and our drink orders were taken. The hot tables were steaming hot, but I did feel some of the food did not stay very hot. There was a wide variety of dishes to choose from. I personally tried the chicken and broccoli, lo mein a few other things and a pile of cream cheese wontons. I tried the egg drop soup, and unfortunately it tasted like it used Jacksonville chlorinated water, it tasted like chlorine, I was bummed. I made my way to the hibachi area where you can choose your items and they will cook it. The person making the food was asking what kind of sauce, I told him and he didn't understand so I kept asking for sauce as it was very dry looking. To be honest it was a little confusing how this worked and I wish they had bowls that I could make my own sauce concoction myself. The food was pretty good though. I think my son did 3 trips to the hibachi area learning more about how to order each time. He loved this option. The sushi area was just OK. The rice was very dried out so it had been sitting, I wouldn't eat that again. The ice cream was a nice touch and they had a few flavors to choose from, something for everyone. Shoutout to our local community heroes!! This venue was so much fun! I haven't been to a buffet in so long. I did my normal walk around before I pick my 1st round. It was so pleasantly appetizing to see all the full containers so nicely presented! So many colors and textures and temperature! I had to get cold peel and eat shrimp! Lots of lemons! And then I got one or two pieces of my other favorites: teriyaki chicken, stuffed seafood mushrooms, fried shrimp, pork, sesame balls, bokchoy, more mushrooms, crab Rangoon, fresh cantaloupe and honeydew melon, jello, pudding, etc. Hubby and I got full pretty fast. There was plenty of parking, but the place was still packed since it had just opened. We knew there would be a wait, so it wasn't a surprise when we were told it would be about 20-25 minutes. That was fine with us. We were a group of 8, and while the space inside was a bit cramped, it wasn't hard to navigate. The food options were extensive, and I opted for a few dishes that would typically cost much more at a sit-down restaurant. The salt and pepper shrimp were crispy and flavorful, especially when dipped in the vinegar sauce. But the real surprise was the lamb leg! This was the first time I've seen it offered at a Chinese buffet. You have to cut it yourself, but it was so tasty that I went back for seconds, and thirds LOL! Another standout was the roast beef, which you also had to carve yourself. It was tender, juicy, and packed with flavor. Those three proteins alone would have cost us a fortune at any other restaurant. There were more options, but I was so full by the time I got through those dishes that I didn't get a chance to try them all. For dessert, I had fresh fruit and buchi, both of which were simple but satisfying. All in all, I'd say the wait was worth it. For the price, you definitely get your money's worth. I struggled with leaving a less-than-stellar review for such a new place, but I ran into issues with temperatures and labeling that just feel like they shouldn't have happened, even in a new restaurant. I went on a weekend afternoon around 3:30, and it was packed! Not a problem, always good for a restaurant to be doing business like that. There was a bit of a wait but with an accurate estimated wait time. The interior feels like a cafeteria -- lots of seating that's kind of close together. The chairs were comfy, though. I'm mostly meatless but will occasionally have seafood; the vegetarian options in the buffet are extremely low, or at least they were on the day I was there. Seafood occupies a huge part of the buffet, and there is a whole sushi section in the back. However, the temperatures were in the "slightly cool" to "lukewarm" ranges, which really turned me off. In addition, many items -- seafood, sushi, and otherwise -- were missing labels, and quite a few had shared tongs with other items. The cooked offerings were pretty typical for a buffet, but the flavors weren't really there on any of the ~dozen things I tried. (In particular, the lo mein was incredibly bland.) Again, I felt like there were some temperature issues with what I grabbed from this section, and I skipped multiple things because there wasn't a label saying what they were (or the label was clearly wrong). There were a few labels that sounded like things I would have tried, but the containers were empty (but again, they were packed, although I never saw any replenishment come out for a couple things). I really wish they had more options that weren't fried, too. I regret not visiting the hibachi bowl section, and if I return in better circumstances, I'd probably try that out first. But with the temperature concerns elsewhere, I didn't feel like trying a section that involved close contact with raw meats. I tried a few of the desserts which were classic buffet desserts, which was nostalgic. But again, nothing stood out as tasty -- to the point where, just a couple days later, I couldn't specifically name anything I had. Finally, some of the restaurant felt almost run-down despite the restaurant being newly open. Notably, multiple lights were flickering in and around the buffet area. On the plus side, the price felt pretty reasonable. Overall, I'd say that if you're someone looking to dig in to a bunch of AYCE seafood options, it may be worth a shot (as I hope their temperature stuff was just a fluke). But you won't find much here if you're not a meat eater, and the flavors felt underwhelming -- hopefully that changes. read more

However, I don't understand how for the 50-55 min me and my party was there, they didn't replenish the wontons in the wonton soup lol. Literally the soup itself was untouched but the wontons were empty the whole time. They are a little slow to fill up on some items but overall they do the best they can. Also, how do you not have sauteed string beans as an option, especially on a Saturday late afternoon. I was here for the grand opening and it blew me out of the water at how amazing the food was. It was definitely a higher quality buffet and well worth it. Three months down the road and the quality and service has decreased 10 fold. The sweet ice tea tastes like sweet well water - no filtration - pure sulfur taste. The sushi used to be really good - now it is overly spicy and not as premium as when they opened. The green tea icecream had a piece of hair in it. The coconut shrimp was on point and now it tastes like they made it the other fish. It tastes like they just brought it from the ocean and didn't properly prepare it. Very busy for a Friday night so you know it's doing well! Staff were friendly and very attentive! But there were soo many staff members that they crowded in areas together! The ambiance was just cold and the tables did not have a comfortable feel.. Lots of options on the buffet and I did enjoy the sushi! The other food options weren't amazing.. I honestly didn't like anything else besides the sushi and the icecream..The biggest complaint I have is why put the raw seafood bar right next to and touching the fresh fruit section? Went for dinner on a Saturday night. It was packed. About a 10 minute wait to get in. Waiting for 10 minutes to get in was the best part of the meal. Everything I tried was terrible. (I did not try the hibachi to be fair) Everything I tried was so bad that my meal ended being canned mandarin oranges, pineapple and runny vanilla pudding. It actually made me long to eat a prison meal for comparison. My dad told me to try this place and he is from New York.
