This is the only flaw with Ground, it's often very busy and I occasionally give it a miss as I know I'll not get a table on certain days (e.g. Saturday). Looks delicious. Unlikely to be a gimmick. Donuts are so often gimmicks; a crappy donut with some bright colour slapped on it to give it appeal.
