Unfortunately this bakery/cafe is very disappointing as it looks the part (nice frontage, good interior) but doesn't deliver. Have tried a few times - first with a friend and we waited so long for service and were overcome with the smell of hot (re-used) cooking oil that we thought, why bother? Second time I thought it 'd be worth another try as I just wanted some takeaway scones - again, the smell of cooking oil was overpowering and clung to your clothes and hair. I'm more than happy to champion and support local buisness, so gave it a final try recently. Glad to say the smell of oil had lessened, but the service (we had sit-in) was sloppy and slow. But a couple of scones and a coffee came to £10! How can that be justified? Was with a colleague and too embarrassed to challenge the bill as it was their treat. What kind of mark up is there for sit-in to justify extortionate prices? That's it. Definitely 3 strikes and you're out with this one. A case of the Emperor's New Clothes maybe, but such a pity as it's missing out on much more trade and a good wee reputation. Perhaps that's why people head to (overly priced but good) La Cuisine instead? read more
