Vibrant interior located on the Ormeau Road, a small sized restaurant which is great for breakfast, brunch, lunch or just coffee and cake. Whenever I visited today I was a little underwhelmed at the selection of the cakes, maybe I was just a little late and missed out (visited just after 130pm)
I was in for lunch with some family and was greeted by a friendly-enough but overly unhelpful waitress, potentially new to the industry but regardless we were seated and given a few minutes to browse the menu.
I opted for a standard classic Croque Monsieur which also came with a bowl of skinny fries. The plate did look a little bare, a small accompanying salad would have been perfect however the sandwich itself was the main feature and it was delicious. The fries were quite dry and unsalted, but the sandwich was so tasty I didn't really care too much. Another observation was the lack of ice in all of the drinks, I feel this is actually really disappointing. I also noticed a little water station but none of the bottles had any water in them, and the ones which did looked like they had been used by other diners. I had asked the waitress for some water and explained a lot of the bottles were empty but she simply filled a small glass for me, which hardly sufficed...
Lastly, whenever paying for the bill it seemed like some form of electronic till error had occurred and she had lost our entire order, having to guess what we had. We then realised that she had overcharged us (albeit for 25p extra, she thought I had a Croque Madame instead of a Monsieur) but for what it was worth we just left it and left the cafe.
I would maybe focus on a little more attention on customer service and tweak a few things in place, however I guess overall it wasn't a bad visit, tasty food and fairly priced so I would go back. read more
