The best little cafe I've ever been in. Typical set-up - small cafe, 4-seater tables, seats almost…read more50, takeaway available. Serves the usual things you'd expect in most cafes - Frys (as in, sausages, bacon, egg, potato bread, soda bread, for visitors from further afield who may not be familiar with the term), stew, burgers, chippie food, etc., as well as a wide range of sandwiches, toasties, and paninis. You're never quite sure what the menu will be in different cafes, but this is where the Harbour really goes the extra mile. It has something for almost everyone: baked potatoes with a variety of fillings, chicken goujons, Pukka pies, lasagne, chicken curry... It really makes an effort to ensure that you have a wide choice when you go for lunch, especially when you have four or five friends all going for something to eat, with none quite having decided exactly what they want til they get there. Not only that, but every day they have daily specials, the best of which is always a meal and a can of coke/sprite, etc. for £3.95! On my first visit I was, as you probably are, a bit sceptical, but I was not disappointed. The daily special the first time I was there was chicken curry with chips or rice, and a can, for £3.95. I got the chicken curry served over the chips, and it was clear they wanted you to be well fed! The curry was of a perfect consistency and was nicely spiced, and there was no shortage of chunks of tender chicken breast. I think the chips were home-made but, if they weren't, they were the nicest frozen chips I'd ever had. It was an excellent feed with quality ingredients at a bargain price, and I couldn't wait to go back. The next time, I had a Pukka pie, which are becoming very popular among pie-lovers (no time for puns or innuendo!), and are now being sold in supermarket chains. They come in minced beef, chicken, etc., so I had one with chips and peas, with a can, for, you've guessed it £3.95. The next time I was there (no, I do not live beside this place!), the special was lasagne, chips and salad, and a dollop of coleslaw. The lasagne was everything you'd want - tomatoey, meaty, cheesy... the coleslaw was fresh and creamy, and the chips were their usual best. It just oozed home cooking. Care to hazard a guess at the price? £26. I'M KIDDING, it was of course, £3.95, can included. So, ok, five stars for a cafe? The Harbour Cafe deserves it. As cafes go, this one takes the biscuit, especially at a time when so many substandard cafes are opening in Belfast - you know the type, somewhere opens up and throws in any kid who can operate a frying pan and an oven, cooks whatever crap they want, and expects people to buy it and thank them for it. So you won't get your double-whipped, non-soya, half-fat, nutmeg-flavoured, mocciacacano coffee here, but who needs it? You'll get good home cooking, plenty of it, great variety, bargain prices, and friendly service (if I haven't mentioned it) that only sees you waiting 5-10 minutes even at peak times (they're a busy little bunch in there). It's unfortunate that this place isn't in the city-centre, and is a bit out of the way, but that doesn't stop it being busy every lunchtime with people making a point of stopping off at this spot for their lunch. Hard to whack.

First there's so much that's right with the place. Their attention to detail is magnificent. The look and feel of the interior is modern industrial, they've really focussed on the decor and it shows. The presentation of the food is another element that they've obviously taken care over. As an example the mushrooms on my large fry were in a separate ramekin to avoid the juice dampening everything. Price wise it's relatively cheap, my large fry was only £6. So here's what's wrong...firstly, I ordered a flat white, it came and tasted like milky water. That put a bad taste in my mouth from the outset, excuse the pun! Next up the food came and although well presented it just wasn't great tasting, the bacon was overcooked and the staff didn't ensure we had sauces etc. In defence of Sozo, it's only been open for a few weeks and it's inevitable that they are going to experience teething problems. I spoke to the staff and they said this was the busiest day since opening so perhaps that explains it. As mentioned there's so much to love about Sozo (Draft Beer, desserts, a great menu) but my experience just wasn't top notch! So I'm giving 3 stars but hopefully when I try dinner in a few weeks we can add a few stars!

We were surprised at how busy Sozo actually was given that it had just opened. At one point every seat in the restaurant was taken and when people left the seats were taken almost immediately. This may have been the reason for the 3 star review. I ordered a caramel latte which was nice, served in a good sized jug/jar although the flat white that we ordered wasn't great. I ordered pancake stacks, bacon and maple syrup. The top pancake was nicely toasted but the two underneath were cremated, actually uneatable. The bacon was also over cooked. Although, the presentation was great, the syrup was served in the Lyles Golden Syrup tin which was quite cool. Sozo has just recently opened so I understand this may have been just teething problems and I would maybe go back in a few months time and maybe update my review then. At the minute it's 3 stars which isn't bad but isn't great!

It seems to be a bit of a a jack of all trades, serving Ice Cream, coffees of all varieties, hot food and sandwiches. This is just what the Antrim Road needed! I went for the Caesar Salad - it was perfection. The salad was fresh and it was served with crunchy croutons, bacon and huge chunks of chicken, even the small amount of cheese wasn't too strong! FOOD = GREAT. The decor of Sylvester's is also great, it's bright and airy with plenty of natural light coming in. The walls are adorned with art and there's exposed brick work to give that rustic feel. There's also a row of outside seating, perfect for when the sun has it's hat on. So here's what I really didn't like.... When my food came I wasn't given any cutlery, I kind of thought that it was one of those places that you helped yourself so I got up and started searching for some, but couldn't find any. I eventually grabbed a member of staff and got sorted out. I sat at the back of the restaurant and I could clearly hear the chefs shouting and swearing. I didn't mind too much but there were a few kids within earshot. I know chefs like to have a bit of banter etc in the kitchen but I suggest getting a thicker door in between the seating area and the kitchen. The coffee was ok, I got an americanno and it was quite bland. No real kick. Only £2 though so that wasn't too bad. Overall I'd say this place has a bright future, conveniently located for me. Really well staffed too so once they iron out the teething problems I'll give it another go!
