I had been going to Midwest Dental in Brookfield for a number of years and always enjoyed my experience. I didn't go to the dentist for about a year because of covid and unfortunately got a different hygienist when I finally got in again. My new hygienist, Layla, made me feel judged for not being to the dentist in a year even though we were still in a pandemic. She said that I needed to do 2 "deep cleaning" sessions. I asked specifically how much that would cost. She provided a print out of an estimate with how much my insurance would cover and my out of pocket. She said this was just an estimate but should be pretty close to this amount which was around $200 out of pocket. I agreed to the sessions. Before both sessions Midwest called me to see if I could come early to my session. I would race out of work, show up about 30 minutes early, call the front desk line, which is rarely picked up, and left a message that I was outside (part of their covid protocols). On both occasions, I ended up waiting in my car until my actual appointment. On the second occasion, Layla came to the door after I had been waiting for 30 minutes and asked if I had been waiting long, I applied that I had and she asked why I didn't call, when I said that I had, she just said "Oh" and we went inside.
After my two sessions, I was less than impressed with Layla and I was really contemplating asking to switch hygienists for my next appointment. Then I received the bill, or actually I received 2 internal reports dated 3 days apart sent by their receptionist/office manager, Kelly, that said that I owed close to $1,000 for the 2 sessions. I couldn't believe my eyes. I immediately called their phone line, which of course was not answered and left a message about how high the bill was. I waited one week but never received a call back. So I called back again and finally got Kelly on the phone. I explained that I never would have agreed to the sessions if I thought I would have had to pay $1,000. She told me I should have checked with my insurance company. I explained that I had never had a dentist's estimate be that far off before, what is even the point in providing an estimate at that point. She told me that my procedure wasn't cheap and she didn't know what I was expecting. I guess I was expecting her to be better at her job. Even though I used to enjoy my experience here, they will not be my dentist going forward. Be careful utilizing their services. read more
