For my experiences over the past 4 years here, I feel the dentist is great about working with you to create a plan of care that works for you meaning she will prioritize any work you need done based on your preferences when she can (based on the severity of the issues). She is also kind and greets me warmly each time I come in. The dental hygienist is good about explaining everything she is doing or will do each step of the way. Also, every time I call the office I am greeted by the friendliest receptionists who are not only friendly but also prompt and efficient. I never feel judged here and always feel listened to. Plus the TVs with streaming service and location by the Third Ward and Screaming Tuna are all nice bonuses, if you ask me! read more

I have gone to a few different dentists in MKE, and I am so happy I found this place! I had developed some dentist anxiety from some bad experiences else where but now my anxiety has been put to rest. The dental hygienists are especially wonderful & kind and they pay attention to things like your pain levels through body language and are careful to about splashing etc. They also never shame when educating or giving feedback. (I know this seems basic, but I literally went to a dentist who I kept saying I was in pain and they didn't care to the point I actively had tears running down my face+ they still didn't stop. They also spilled water down my face/neck and used my shirt to dry it lmao.) Anyways, I have been going for about a 1.5 years and had to have 1 filling done, as well as 3 routine cleanings so far which have all been good experiences. The only thing I would say is sometimes you do have to wait for the dentist after your cleaning (I waited 15 minutes today), but on the flip side I never feel rushed + never feel like they are rushing. I do typically plan for a little over an hour for appointments though. Lastly, the office is clean, relaxing, and quiet. They have a TV on where you are able to choose the show you would like to watch with subtitles, which isn't a necessity but it is a nice distraction. read more

I just moved to the Milwaukee area and phoned a few different places that I found online to see if they'd accept my insurance. This office was able to confirm that my insurance was accepted and immediately setup an appointment. That other offices couldn't figure out that simple step is still a mystery to me. I take very good care of my teeth, however because of the pain and discomfort I experienced at prior dental offices, I haven't seen a dentist or hygienist in quite some time. So I appreciated the fact that they asked me if there was anything about prior dental visits that I disliked. I explained what my pain points were and why I stopped going to the dentist and they took careful note of my prior issues. They performed the following work the in 2 separate visits: 1. X-Rays: Painless and simple 2. Cleaning: Painless 3. Filling replacement: Painless Here's the thing about Dr Stoycheva. Like most dentists with many years of practice, she's very intelligent and very good at her job. But unlike many dentists, she listens carefully, acknowledges what you said, explains your options and the pros and cons of each one, then stands behind whatever you decide you want. She explains what's she's doing and why she's doing it throughout her process. Her staff members are courteous and kind. No doubt it's because of how she treats them. The office is very clean and you can tell the equipment is very well kept. All-in-all, a 5 star experience both times I visited. There's a few other items that need to be done with my teeth and I'll be coming here from now on. I highly recommend them. read more

She's a good dentist, until she's not. She can be verbally abusive, gaslight and lie when questioned about taking liberties with your teeth you didn't approve of. Proceed with caution. She's arrogant and quick to cover up her errors, instead of apologize. If you only need a cleaning, the hygienist is fantastic. read more

Let me start off by stating that I have a phobia of the dentist...irrational, I know but stems from having terrible experiences when I was younger especially with my orthodontist. Therefore, I have not been to the dentist in more than a couple years. Recently, I needed to have a dental work completed and spent days reading the review of every dentist in the area. I had some apprehension of selecting First Place Dentistry due to some of the bad YELP reviews, but after my last three appointments, it is clear to me that these reviews are unfounded. My experiences have been nothing but exceptional. Dr. Stoycheva and her staff do not judge people as they walk in the door. Rather they are they kindest dental staff and wish nothing more than to help people achieve great dental health and something unique to them - help enhance each patient's natural beauty and be comfortable with their teeth and smile. I had to have work done on one of my upper-front teeth, which made me extremely nervous because those are the teeth that everyone sees first when you are talking to them or smiling. Dr. Stoycheva assured me that by the time she was done it would be near perfect and that no one would notice that I had work done. She is an artist and true to her word, my front tooth came out beautifully! She spent quite some time shaping and modifying the work until she was completely satisfied and then gave me the opportunity to bite down and look in a mirror to make sure I was 100% satisfied with the work. First Place Dentistry is simply the best - especially for anyone who is nervous about going to the dentist or who has not been for a couple years and needs a comfortable atmosphere without the judgmental staff. read more

The worst part about relocating is finding a new doctor, dentist, hair stylist (especially one who accepts your insurance!). Enter me trying desperately to find a dentist within network, who is accepting new patients and isn't making me wait 2-months for my first appointment. So I show up for my first appointment and the office is immaculate. The receptionist checks me in and shows me to a small all-glass room (even the furniture was clear acrylic) that I have dubbed "the fishbowl," to fill out paperwork. As soon as I've completed the papers the hygienist takes me to another room where I get xrays and she starts the cleaning. Which was slow. Slow but thorough I hope?! 45-minutes later my teeth are cleaned and I'm waiting for Dr. Stoycheva to come do her exam. And I'm waiting. And waiting. Finally an hour and a half after my appointment time the hygienist comes and tells me that Dr. Stoycheva will be with me "in just a few minutes." 30-minutes later I'm still sitting solo. So I wander around the office in my paper bib looking for the hygienist and tell her that I've been waiting for the dentist for an hour and 15 minutes and my appointment time was TWO HOURS AGO! I never, ever would have thought that I needed to block off 2 hours for a cleaning. So they tell me that they can reschedule me to come in for the 10-minute exam another day if I'm okay with that. Sure. I expected her to say that they could squeeze me in the next day or at least sometime later that week. Nope. The earliest they could get me in is ONE MONTH out. My appointment was Aug. 13th and my rescheduled exam is Sept. 13th. One month later. So while the office was beautiful, super conveniently located for me and the girls were all nice, I'm very unimpressed with how they handled the delay and appointment rescheduling. I will update my review after my Sept 13th appointment and hopefully can give some stars back. --Update: Came back for my exam and was in and out in less than 10 minutes. Easy breezy! read more

My experience at First Place Dentistry has always been amazing because they actually care about you! They have provided me with optimum quality of care at every visit. The staff is so compassionate and caring as soon as you walk through the door you feel like family. Each and everyone of the staff has an open and friendly personality. Its almost like everyone is hand picked to work here specifically. Dr. Stoycheva is very gentle and honest which are the qualities I really value in a service provider. Terrible. My first experience was sitting in the office while I overheard the dentist yelling at the hygienist to tell her that I must have full x-rays and that she didn't want to wait for my records to be transferred. Second, I was charged a missed appointment fee of $95.00 when my son was ill with croup and had to be taken to the ER. Sorry but this is not a place for families or anyone expecting professional service. read more

I've searched for a good dentist in MKE for a long time with some horrific experiences of people who were either awful and didn't listen to me or had practices run out of what appeared to be their own stained carpeted living room. Eventually, I came across First Place Dentistry, and thank god I did. This place is clean and professional. I've been getting a lot of work done over a period of almost 2 years here, and they have been nothing but the best. From listening to when I said I wasn't numb which they asked me every, single, time to very precise work aided by an assistant. Each and every time I've left my mouth looked better and felt better than when I came in. I cannot suggest more Dr. Stoycheva-- she is the absolute best. read more

Find another dentist. This review is a result of my last visit to First Place Dentistry 2 years ago. I wrote and saved this review as soon as it happened and still feel upset about it enough to post on yelp. Dr. Stoycheva is rude, is a liar and has no regard for patient satisfaction or teeth uniformity (although she's a cosmetic dentist). She has every regard for your money. At first glance, First Place Dentistry appears to be a wonderful place, until you disagree with Dr. Stoycheva. Then she resorts to any method of yelling, arm flailing, lying, demoralization and humiliation she can think of in order to shut you up. And yes, she will yell at you in front of her staff and other patients. I will keep this review as short as I can. I established care with Dr. Stoycheva when I lived in Milwaukee. My first few visits were pleasant. Unfortunately, I had to relocate to IL/IN border but continued to drive 2.5 hours each way so that she could finish a root canal she started while I still lived in Milwaukee and fix a faulty front tooth repair she performed only 2 months prior. In fact, during my last drive there my husband accompanied me, and we got a flat tire. I IMMEDIATELY called the office to inform them I would be late. I asked if I should reschedule and the receptionist told me to come in anyway. The receptionist's response to my review on google will have you believe I never called. Nevertheless, it took me almost 4 hours to get there. After she finished my crown, I pointed out that the front tooth repair she had performed just 2 months before was already chipped. BY HER OWN ADMISSION, it was too thin and would need to be fixed. What did she opt to do instead? Hurriedly RESHAPE the tooth and file it down to a different length and shape to the one adjacent. She then sent me on my way and asked that I make another appointment for her to fix it at a later date. I told her that the drive was not convenient and explained that I had just spent 4 hours on the road and I would prefer if she fixed it while I was still at the office. I also told her I was not satisfied with the new shape of the tooth as it was completely different from the one adjacent to it. She tried to deny it, told me the shape was fine but admitted the difference was visible only after I stood my ground. She proceeded to flail her arms about, and yell at me stating, "you do not want me to speak to you in a different language!" I felt humiliated and devalued. I continuously told her to stop shouting at me and she carried on shouting and eventually stormed off in her temper tantrum. Her behavior was disgusting and her attitude was utterly unacceptable. I've spent THOUSANDS of dollars at her practice and deserve to feel satisfied with the results. She's a COSMETIC DENTIST! I should not have to remind her that my teeth should not look mis-shapen after I get up from her chair. She should have been empathetic to the fact that my drive as far, or at least, politely and professionally tell me that her faulty work would be best fixed during another visit. Find another dentist. She's an angel--until she makes an error and you ask her about it. read more

At first we loved this practice, the hygienist was nice and it was a great atmosphere. Once my husband and I arrived home we compared experiences. Both of us were concerned as we didn't recall the hygienist working on our bottom row. The following week my husband had his annual military check and the dentist was astounded when he said he just had them cleaned, he confirmed the bottom row was not touched. I have been a repeat customer of First Place Dentistry for the simple fact that the high quality dental care and atmosphere cannot be beat! Dr. Stoycheva is incredibly talented at delivering high quality care with the latest techniques and industry knowledge. I had a root canal that was pain free because of the means by which Dr. Stoycheva numbed the area to be treated. The technique of numbing was one I had never before experienced. She massaged the gum line while giving me the numbing agent. I never felt pain! This was not my first root canal, but it was the first time I had such a procedure without pain. I highly recommend this dentist! On a side note, the office is impeccably clean and utilizes the latest equipment and technology. The staff is always friendly and as a patient you feel valued. I think it is also worth mentioning that I do not have dental insurance, and I pay cash for my dental services. I compared rates for procedures at several other dentists and the rates at First Place Dentistry are very competitive. Plus, you get a level a care with Dr. Stoycheva that goes above and beyond the "typical" level of dental care you will find at most other places. My first appointment went very well. The Hygienist answered all my questions and took her time cleaning my teeth. The dentist was dealing with an emergency so I felt a little rushed with her, but under the circumstances, I was understanding. My follow-up appointment for my first round of fillings was a completely different story. The dentist failed to dumb my mouth enough and after I made her aware, she ignored it and kept drilling. Second, on my way home I felt a huge chunk of my gum missing around the tooth she was drilling on only to find out she drilled my gum and avoided telling me until I sent pictures. This was obviously my last visit at first place dentistry. read more

I expected my appointment to take a while, but the staff here are extremely knowledgeable and my appointment took far less time then I originally thought. They made me feel like I had been coming here for years, and were very polite while still being professional.
