I recently completed a tooth implant process that took several months (remove 40-year old crown, bone graft, wait for that to heal, implant post, wait for that to heal, implant!). The whole process was about as painless as it could possibly be. One of the things I like best about Elmbrook Family Dental is that they explain things clearly -- throughout the process Dr. Plecas explained each step, what the options were, what he thought the best option would be, and why. Knowing about the bone graft was especially important to me, and seeing what the part of the implant would be and how it all went together was cool. I was initially concerned because my son's wedding was coming up, and I didn't want to have a big hole in my mouth for pictures. Dr. Plecas discussed options with me -- the full process wouldn't be complete before the wedding. If I wanted, we could have gotten a temporary fake tooth there, but he thought I should wait and see how it looked. Once the tooth was removed I found that the space wasn't very noticeable at all. I'm very glad that I didn't spend the extra money on a temporary tooth! It feels like we know everyone there - we've been there for years, and at times we had six family members going. My older kids only stopped going there when they totally left the area; while they were in college out of state they still went to Elmbrook Family Dental, scheduling appointments around their breaks. One of the other things I like about Elmbrook Family Dental is that they keep up with processes, technology, and materials.

It's a hard sell for TMJ services with every appointment. Cost for TMJ services: Assessment $650 and treatment $5400-6500 (services weren't clarified) with payment required upfront. He says he uses a third-party to maximize insurance payout and after that is received, he would refund anything that insurance covers. When I asked what patients do when they can't afford this treatment, he became defensive and explained that he couldn't provide services for free (which I wouldn't expect). I found a local (TMJ & Orofacial Pain Treatment Center) doctor who is excellent, fitted me with a night guard for under $200, and that has very clear patient costs for services after insurance, and charges much less overall.

His team here is also great. Everyone I've worked with has been very pleasant and helpful. His hygienists are especially good too. Thanh has been my hygienist here for the last year or so and she has a gentle touch and is knowledgeable, helpful, and just the right amount of scolding when I admit I haven't been flossing everyday. Worth mentioning that I first started seeing Dr Tang when I lived on that side I town. I have continue to see him after I move almost an hour away about 5 years ago. I consider it worth the trip to know that I will be well taken care of and it will not be a painful experience.

Both my daughter and I inform them she has terrible TMJ and needs a break to close her mouth every 10-15 minutes. Sure, ok, no problem we are told. NOPE, once they started, they NEVER stopped. She was crying in pain and they just kept saying we can't stop. "The mouth guard won't be sanitary anymore". SO use a NEW one, like other better dentists do!!! As the man in front of me finished, and I began to sign in, I noticed she made no effort to break eye contact with the computer monitor in front of her or even mutter any sort of greeting or acknowledgement that we were there and standing directly in front of her. I had a seat and waited a few minutes before she called my name and had me walk up to the desk. She flatly stated that I owed a balance of $37 for a fluoride treatment while implying she wanted payment immediately. Caught off guard, I tried calling my mom to see if she could've been possibly referring to a previous visit or if fluoride was even desirable. Unable to reach mom, I concluded that Amy was referring to a charge for the current day's visit. I decided against the fluoride treatment and informed Amy. I was soon called back. My sister, who was there with me, walked up to the desk to confirm that I would not be receiving the treatment, that nothing was owed from a previous visit, and that I did not incur a charge. Snidely, Amy told her that it was noted in my chart. A few days ago, I received a bill for the same fluoride treatment I declined. The phone conversation, again with Amy, was unpleasant and she seemed to not believe that I was unjustly charged until she got my file and saw for herself. It was condescending. I wish they understood that the experience at the front desk makes the first and last impressions, and their impressions are poor. That being said, we won't be returning this location or going to any other Aspen Dental because of the business model. Bottom line: they seem very oriented towards getting money out of patients. Confirming an appointment and then not being open at the confirmed time without contacting the patient to let them know is unforgivable. A company that cannot get the basics right certainly cannot be trusted to get the sophisticated work of dental care right. I recommend saving yourself time and frustration.
