A selvedge is NOT a hem I brought in a wizarding robe to have the bottom and sleeves hemmed--HEMMED--and they charged me a ridiculous fee ($90)--but the kicker was when i got it home last night, all they had done was cut and SELVEDGE the edges--in any definition of hemming, selvedge is NOT included. When the crazy high price was quoted, I was expecting to have the robe actually hemmed which (if properly done) would have almost justified the cost. ALTERATION PRICES ARE A RIP OFF! I really wish I had read the negative reviews of this place before bringing my bridesmaids dress to them for alterations. I dropped my dress off to them on 4/30 and told them I needed it to be hemmed a couple inches, the cuffs to be tightened and the material around the chest to be brought in as it was much too loose and showing more cleavage than I felt comfortable with. I told the owner, John, I needed the dress no later than the 12th and was told it would be ready on the 10th. The day of the 10th I called them and John was confused as to which dress I was talking about and it sounded like he and a woman (his sister) were frantically looking for it. John had admitted that the seamstress had been out the whole week prior which obviously made me very nervous & he said to me, "didn't you say you needed it by the 15th?" Considering the wedding was on the 13th I know I didn't tell him that and reminded him that he put the 10th on my pickup receipt. He told me he'd call me back as they still hadn't even located the dress. I ended up calling them back a couple hours later before they were going to close and this time I spoke to the sister who was very dismissive of my concern and at one point she told me she had to get off the phone bc she had a customer to deal with (yea I'm a customer too lady). She promised me the dress would be completed by the next day. The next day I went to pick it up and tried it on in their dingy little dressing room in the corner. The hemming and the cuffs were a great length but the loose material in the chest wasn't taken care of and all she did was put a crappy little metal snap button on the front that didn't help whatsoever. Also my dress had way more static in it then before I dropped it off, when I asked about this (having been told my dress would be treated after being altered) I was told to just use spray on it. Now it came time to pay and take into consideration John never told me the price of the service nor did he put it on the receipt but I figured a place that looked like they're still living in the 80s wouldn't be as expensive as the other places I had looked at...I was then told the cost of the alterations was $145!!!!! Are you kidding me?! My dress cost $80!!! I almost lost my shit and I asked the sister to confirm that price and told her that was not discussed at all. I called the next day to speak to John, I got the sister (again) and asked her to explain the pricing of the alterations and she kept basically pulling #'s out of thin air , "oh $80-85 for hemming, $30-$35 for the cuffs, $20 to press...". I told her the prices were absolutely ridiculous and they should've been told to me prior bc I never would've agreed to have my $80 dress be almost double for alterations. She tried offering me a $20 refund and told me to come back in for it, I told her I was done coming into their business and told her there should be a way to refund me electronically considering I paid with a credit card. She told me to call back and speak to her brother, who actually ended up calling me a couple hours later. John was very confrontational and kept dismissing my concerns and feelings as a customer who felt ripped off by his business. I had to end the call for my own sanity because he was not understanding, so I told him to enjoy my $145 and that he would never be getting any of my money or my family/friends money and that I would make sure to review his business anywhere I could. He basically told me he didn't care as he already has enough business and doesn't need anymore. Also, at one point during our conversation John tried to ask me if I was a Happy Valley resident, almost like I shouldn't be complaining about the high prices if I did live in HV. I have been using this dry cleaner for 2 years and the service and quality have always been good. However, I picked up a large load of 14 shirts - and was charged $84. That's $6 for a standard cotton dress shirt. This is an increase but the owner wouldn't tell me how much the price went up just that shirts are now $6 because of inflation. This is an outrageous price for shirts. A simple cotton dress with no pleats was $20. The prices aren't listed so you need to ask before you drop off your clothes. I went to the dry cleaners across the street, and the shirts were $3 there. I can't go back to midway, we will use the place across the street from now on. read more

When I first met John, the owner of Midway Cleaners, he came across as rather gruff. . . But don't let that gruff exterior deter you. He cares deeply about his customers and in addition to excellent dry cleaning, before long, you feel connected. I've been going there for 7 years. His mother (age 96) did all the alterations until recently when she got COVID (she's still home recovering). She doesn't speak English, but calls you "cousin" when interacting (and John translating) and you can feel the love and see the sparkle in her eyes. I generally do not utilize cleaning services but needed to find a local one who cleans pillows at a reasonable cost. I took my feather pillow into Midway Cleaners. The price was reasonable. The service excellent. Other cleaners in the area I recently moved from cleaned the pillow casing/cover. When I got my pillow back from Midway it had all new ticking/covering and was fluffy and smelled fresh and clean. I highly recommend them if you need your pillows cleaned and sanitized. Because they send them out to a special service you might have to wait a couple of weeks, but the wait is well worth it. It was a treat to find they also do alterations. A nice find, locally. Let me start by saying that I rarely write reviews, but in this case it seemed necessary. I have been going to John at Midway Cleaners for nearly 2 years. During that time he was always pleasant. His prices were much higher than I'm used to paying but I assumed that was simply the price I had to pay to use the "best dry cleaners" in the Clackamas area. Well unfortunately that all changed. Over the last several months I started to notice a huge drop off in that friendly service & quality I'd been paying for. His staff all of the sudden became very rude and were demeaning to my girlfriend on several occasions. Then to make matters worse I had three brand new shirts get ruined or at least come out looking old and used. This to me was unacceptable especially with amount of money I pay to have my clothes taken care of. But when I approached John about the damaged shirts he tried to tell me that it was somehow my fault. I was blown away, I mean how could me dropping off brand new shirts that then became faded and over pressed be my fault? So I told him how ridiculous that sounded and he instantly turned and pointed fingers at his staff stating that they were incompetent and that its too bad about my shirts but that's the gamble I take by bringing my clothes to him. Whoa.. really?? I honestly couldn't believe my ears. I mean standing in front of me was a grown man who was willing to blame everyone else to avoid taking ownership of "his" company's mistake. I mean what kind of person does that? So I told him that I wanted him to reimburse me for one of the shirts since I could still order a new one. The other 2 unfortunately were no longer available for purchase. And his response was about as shocking as all of his others. He said sure I will pay you but do us both a favor and never come back. Again I am blown away at John's lack of professionalism. I do not recommend Midway Cleaners unless you enjoy being charged a lot for poor quality work all while being treated poorly. Yeah they were friendly, but that doesn't make up for them charging us $25 to hem up some sleeves on the robe I bought my boyfriend for Christmas. We waited a week went to pick it up. Took it home and had to drop off our car at the mechanics so we didn't really take a look at it until we got home. She didn't hem anything! It it's the same as when we took it in, but by the time we got the car back three days later I figured it would be too late to go in and complain about it. Extremely unprofessional, RUDE, and angry! I took 12 items to be dry cleaned. When I came to pick up and I analyzed them, one of the t shirts was stained, faded and the writing in it looked awful! When I said that it looked worse than when I dropped it off and that I didn't want to pay for the ruined shirt, the man preceded to belittle me and tell me to take it back to where I purchased it from. He said they should not have labeled it 'dry clean'. He then continued to say, "I work harder than you or anyone, I work 12 hour days, 7 days a week, I don't need your business!!' Midway Cleaners came highly recommended by folks on "Nextdoor" when I asked for a good local dry cleaner. Shortly before Christmas time I brought in two throw blankets and a king size bedspread and asked for them to be dry cleaned. When I got them back, the king size bedspread had shrunk considerably about 5 inches smaller all the way around. It no longer would fit my bed. I was extremely disappointed and suspected that the bedspread had been laundered and not dry cleaned and that's why it shrunk. I returned to the shop to ask John if that is what happened. He admitted that it was laundered (not dry cleaned) and he insisted that is what I asked for. Wrong! I could have laundered it myself! Why would I have him do it? Then he got defensive saying he knows what he is doing and has 40 years experience. But he shrunk my bedspread, and he told me if I'm just going to throw it away I should give it back to him to keep. Really? Anyway, after much back and forth he finally agreed to refund my money that I paid for the dry cleaning of the bedspread, which is all I was asking for. The two throw blankets were fine. So in the end, I have a useless bedspread that won't fit my bed and had to spend another $200 for a new one. read more

Been using Midway cleaners for a long time now. I had a beach photo shoot in my wedding dress a few days after our wedding and my dress was so dirty afterwards! It's got lots of ruffles layering over one another and very expensive material and I knew these folks count do the job. Worst fuckin dry cleaners of all time. Took my dress to get hemmed thinking it would be 15-25 dollars, went to go pick it up and they're charging me 80! I am only giving this place one star because there is not an option for Zero. I went in last week to have my comforter dry cleaned and the guy told me that they would have to pin it and then they would dry clean it for me. He promised me it would be ready on the next Wednesday and asked if I was in a hurry for it. I said no that was fine. I went back on the following Thursday and he wandered around and came back and told me he couldn't find my comforter. I was a little more than worried considering it was only 3 months old. HE told me to come back Friday and I could get it if he could find it. When I went back he charged me 35.00 and proceeded to tell me that I got a good deal cause he should have charged me more. Upon going home and laying it out on my bed there were tears in the comforter and the pin holes were huge and had pulled even larger holes all across the comforter. He proceeded to tell me that it had tears in it when I brought it in and was very rude. He also explained how they washed it in a huge front load washer and they needed to pin it to keep it together because it was a cheap comforter. I told him I wanted my 35 bucks back as well as the money it cost me for the comforter. I had my receipt for the original purchase and he told me he would only give me the 100 bucks I paid for it but I should take it back to TJ Maxx and tell them the label was wrong and it apparently can't be dry cleaned. Even tough he washed it and dried it. I will NEVER go back here and I will not give good word of mouth reference for this place, In the end he gave me a check for 100 bucks and refused to give me my 35 back for the cleaning fee and also demanded to keep my comforter. Since it was ruined I figured he can keep it but was so very less than impressed. I hope the check clears. read more

YES, their pricing is going to be high, but you will also get a high quality return. If you are concerned with the best deal, don't waste your time. If you want great service with great quality and don't mind paying for it, this is a great place to go. My kids love going there and they always have to see the kids. If you call and want to negotiate pricing and are a hassle from the beginning, of course he is going to tell you to take your business elsewhere. Time is valuable and he has more work than he can shake a stick at so why try to take on business from a customer who is whining from the start?
